PS5 - External Drive Compatibility?

I know this is old but has there been any change in the SSD situation since the year began? Figured it may help to have continuity rather than make a brand new thread.

I've been debating what I should do and I think PS4 storage is going to be an issue for me no matter what, even after the M2 situation gets patched in. So considering I'd be getting a single purpose drive to run PS4 games, I'm leaning toward just getting a Samsung T5 since it's $120 and comes with both USB C and USB A cables. That way I avoid having to mix and match enclosures and drives, and it seems to be idiot proof and work with rest mode.

Any new developments or new drives that are a better buy? NVME still no better than SATA III?

I use a bare bones portable 1tb T7 solely for PS4 games. Worth it. Its just as fast as internal as far as PS4 is concerned. I tested it. It was around 100 bucks ish.

Even my 5200 RPM SATA worked, but it did have streaming issues.
