To activate it, reboot your PS5. As long as you’re on the latest update, it’ll show up on the menu.

What did i just read ?

HDMI based VRR was always there, Sony had it disabled on a system level. We can guess they had it disabled on consoles until they got it working on their Bravia TV's first.

how do I test this?

Put your PS5 in the shower for 10 minutes under some warm soapy water.

See if it boots.
