PSA: Game Boy Micro faceplates up for sale at RCG

So, I remember a lot of people at the old Micro OT talking about how hard finding faceplates for their old unit is, and I know some GAFers even tried to order some in bulk to a manufacturer but nothing ever came out of it. I've been looking for one myself, as my gf gave me an used Micro for my birthday a couple of months ago and the faceplates were scratched to hell and back.

Anyway, Thoraxes messaged me after I posted a request for faceplates at the buy/sell/trade thread a couple of days ago about the guys at Rose Colored Gaming getting a custom faceplates shipment soon, and it seems they're now up for sale, at $17 each (kinda steep, but again, I wanted to have at least one good faceplate). Thought maybe some of you guys might be interested.

You can order them here.

$25 shipping to Canada!? Why not just stick it in an envelope? Seems like a ripoff, I didn't see another option for shipping.

I dont see them? I just see some overpriced Micro systems hat are sold out.

Sorry! Fixed the link.

I need a Game Boy Micro

It is indeed a thing of beauty. Incredible screen too, everything looks so damn good. It's pixel art heaven.

I had to pay $10 for shipping in the US D: they did mention they'll add another shipping method on their fb page if I'm not mistaken though. Might want to wait a bit and see if they offer something more reasonable.

It looks like they've sold faceplates before, any reviews on their quality?

I'm guessing a defacer is a tool to get the faceplates off safely and easily, if I'm wrong about that please correct me.
I also assume you those nice buttons that match the colour scheme are just for their display models.

Check their facebook page. They said they'll have the buttons up for sale in a few days. And while you're at it, you might want to complain about the shipping costs there so they consider offering more reasonable shipping methods

No idea on the quality. First time ordering from them too, and since it seems this is their first time mass-producing the faceplates, I doubt their previous items would be a good indicator anyway.

They look matte-ish though, which I hope they are. Not a fan of shiny.

The previous faceplates they sold were gummy, I guess? They weren't the same as these which are supposed to be similar to the OEM ones.

I have a pink Micro which I adore but I'd like to get a new face plate. I'm tempted to order one of these, but I really really want them to make the Kirby one in this style.

These aren't OEM right?

Nope. Wish Nintendo still made them, I mean how hard can it be D: I'd be willing to part with my Club Nintendo monies if they offered the original set of faceplates the Micro came with. I even bet they have some collecting dust at a warehouse somewhere :(

Looking at the top picture on that page it doesn't look like the real product will look like that illustration photo at all.

This is super ugly:

..and how do they get away with using the Nintendo logo?

Just ordered two of them, my famicom Micro's plate got messed up a long time ago and I have kept the system stored away while looking for decent replacements. A few local stores here in Houston have Micros in stock and want $80 without faceplates. So $18 per plate is not bad IMO since these are brand new and there are literally no other good options.

I wouldn't worry about quality. Wiggy is a perfectionist and wouldn't have them for sale if he didn't have them well polished.

I was wondering when somebody would take up this task.

I know these guys have a full on "gimmick" with their designs, but if they have the means to create new product, I think there's money to be made in offering the basic faceplates.

I would have bought that Charizard one. Maybe the Samus one too if it was more than just a sprite stamped onto a solid background.

There were still more designs in the works from what I've read.

So, was unpacking the faceplates when I realized the tabs on the Zelda plate were broken off and if that wasn't bad enough the NES / GB plates simply won't fit without a gap on the left side. Don't have that issue on the official plates, so I'd say while it's great that these guys are offering faceplates, buyer DEFINITELY beware. I've sent them an email to see about a refund so I guess I'll go from there.

Woah, that sucks! Mine arrived the other day and they worked/fit my Micro just fine. Here are some pictures:
