PSA: Spelunky is now on Steam

What's a good resource for Spelunky mods? Are they just kind of scattered all throughout the Internet right now, or is there some site/forum that is a hub for that kind of thing?

Never used them, so can't vouch for anything.

Wow, amazing. I can't believe I did it in about... 10 runs I want to say? It felt so painless this time compared to when I got it on the 360.

Currently it says that .09 % players have this achievement, cmon guys step it up!!!

I haven't even beaten the game yet.

Not too shabby.

Haven't even attempted this yet, got other little things I want to do first though.

My failed attempts at getting "Low Scorer" can be viewed here. First run was the Daily Challenge. Bah. =[

I'm doing one more run of Spelunky before I call it quits however I'm not taping it. Watch this be the one. =P

205 deaths later, true ending conquered. One hell of a finale, and a worthy update to the original game all around.

Now to break a million...

I find the true ending to be
pathetically easy with the help of a shotgun (which is generally what I pack when I go on hell runs, killing shop keeps.

The PC players are still learning the ropes!

Well just right now, I went to below to the depths of hell for the first time. Unfortunately, I did not made it out alive. Here's my rank as of 5 minutes ago:

In case anyone wants to see my run, here you go.

Nice work dude. I messed up bad, lost the jetpack and ankh, so I died at the end of 3-4. Did get the alien gun though, that's always fun. Made 300k and was at like 30, ridonkuolus

[420] MLG no scope strats: When you first find the headjet, don't forget to pick it up. Annoyingly the game doesn't automatically give it to you unlike some items.

Just finished the Daily Challenge run 5 minutes ago. Here's where I wound up at:

Anybody interested to see how I did it can go to my Twitch hub where I have linked before. Laptop acted up so the last 2 videos consists of my run.

Fucking hell. I had a jetpack. I had a shotgun. I had 8 hearts. I had Olmec on the last layer. And he squished me.

That would have been the first time I beat the game. I was figuratively and literally crushed.

I was just about there and he dropped an orange frog on top of my head...I had nowhere to go

Here is today's Daily Challenge rank as of 5 minutes ago:

I fought my way back to Hell for the second time ever and just as I was heading out to get the anti-fire amulet, I clinged onto a Tiki Trap and *stab*. In all the excitement of getting a shotgun and going to get the amulet, I completely forgot about this one Tiki Trap. Bleh.

This rarely happens, but when it does...

Also, I was wondering If I should make a Spelunky OT if no one else has one in the works. The only thing I would really need would be a title banner, some titles, and I could do the other stuff. If anyone wants to collaborate, let me know.

Man, it was fun seeing you get stressed out once you got to hell, it reminded me of myself when I first got there, my heart was beating so fast I thought it was going to explode haha.

This exact thing happened to me last week, just the other way around, the shop was to the left.

I even had the same character even I think.

I dun goofed. Could have been so much more. Oh well, should bump up my average considerably.

I don't know what I'm going to do when this comes out on the vita, I don't think i'll ever leave the bathroom.

Might be a good time to do one, since the PS3/Vita version is imminent.

I finally beat Olmec. Hoorah.

Took me forever. I went in to the battle with no bombs, one heart, and a jetpack. Once you get him into a hole that is five tiles wide it is super easy, but man that was tense.

Now it is time to try for the city of gold I suppose, and then Hell. I still haven't even unlocked Super Meat Boy.

It's sad there are a bunch of obvious cheaters on the leaderboards.

Hell run in 1:48? Not fucking possible

Only 2 people on the XBLA leaderboards have sub 3 minute runs to 4-4

If any of you guys/gals are playing the daily challenge regularly feel free to add me because I only have one person on my friend's list that does the daily. :( Don't worry if you suck, because I'm not too hot at the game!

Just did the daily challenge.

Things started off brilliantly, got an early jetpack and started working my way to the black market. Got there with about 100k, which I was really pleased with. Exited with a bunch of bombs, good amount of ropes, my jetpack and the Ankh.

Made it to the temple, at this point with about 6 hearts, 16 bombs and 7 ropes. Beat Annubis but as the Scepter fell it was crushed by a crush trap. Never been so angry at a game.

Went on to beat Olmec and I'm sitting at about 30th place overall. But it could have been so much more.

So much more :'(

I was going to add you, but when I saw your huge playtime and that you already completed the game, I don't know anymore :)

going into the black market today is BAD NEWS

shopkeeper aggro caused by who knows what, killed me right quick

a damn shame since i had the jetpack and like 7 health, and enough cash for the ankh

It might be true. You get a perfect run with the teleporter and it's possible. If it's on XBLA it's hard to discount. If it was on PC I would say hell no. Video proof is needed though.

On my last run I managed to get to City of Gold for the first time, so while I was already doing great I decided to venture off into Hell, y'know, see what that's all about.

I was so close to completion, but alas today it was not meant to be.

I actually get kind of tense while shopping in the black market because a couple of times something else in the level has set off the shopkeeper whoopass brigade and they place the blame squarely on me.

I've played the demo a bit and like the gameplay, but I have one question: is there any sort of permanence to it?

I know it's basically a roguelike, but I tend to only like roguelikes where you can keep SOME sort of upgrades for your character after dying, which is why I dig Rogue Legacy so much.

Is Spelunky like that at all, or do you lose EVERYTHING upon dying in this game?

You lose everything but it fits the game perfectly. You can unlock shortcuts to skip earlier zones but you usually always want to do the early zones for easy/free money and gear.

As mentioned, only the shortcuts and shortcut progress carry over and even the shortcuts are a limiting form of progression because it locks you out of other things. Whether it's your first or thousandth run your ability to surmount its challenges are the same, and that's what I like about it and makes it so replayable.

Rogue Legacy is fun for a time, but the upgrades carrying over are the crux of the game's design, and once you're done with that you're just done. There's nothing more to the game than that. It's more about the RPG sense of character progression and less about the systems of the game working with procedurally generated layouts.

Well today's Daily Challenge run didn't end so well for me. However, what came after it was one of my proudest moments as a gamer. Luckily, I recorded it for all to see here. Hint: I joined the 0.3%

I beat Hell for the first time ever. It was during yesterday's Daily Challenge. Since I started the DC at about 3 minutes until it resets for the new day, I officially came in at #25. An awesome week of Spelunky for me so far.
