i use it with Dead Space Extraction and it works extremely well....... aside from the square and triangle buttons being hard to get to when i need them. i also can't figure out how to slow down enemies. i can only grab shit from far away with the move button.

would like to test it with KZ3 too. i tried the demo with Move sans sharpshooter and it was better than i thought it would be. a few reviews for KZ3 said that the sharpshooter was their preferred way to play, so we'll see about that.

About Extraction, you have to use X or UP on the Navi for stasis.

Sorry for the OT

Sony admitted there was a known vulnerability, but not what software was vulnerable. Can you find a remote vulnerability with Apache 2.2.15 more serious than a simple DDOS? The only one I found was someone's crappy security scanner software complaining about it, but the scanner linked to two different DDOS vulnerabilities, and not to the one it was describing. Even looking at the changelog for newer versions of Apache, they don't list fixing any remote control exploits.

I'm curious as to what was vulnerable honestly, but if Apache was the problem, it wasn't all that known apparently.

Honestly there is no guarantee every server was at least 2.2.15 and the reported version info by the server is even correct. Sony was seen running earlier version of Apache when PSN was first closed. But according to Sony only web server was directly connected to the internet through a firewall. App server was connected to it by another firewall.

Had more people trade in their systems for 360s today =(

No one cares. :(

If people are going to trade in their shit due to the outage, their loss. I've been knocking through single-player shit I've been neglecting during this outage, if all they play is CoD daily for the multiplayer, maybe they should expand their gaming horizons and tastes a bit instead of selling their console. But oh well.

The gaiety of this recommendation has exceeded my self control tolerances, good sir. You are to be dismissed from your efforts.

Socom 4 > Confrontation. Pure fact. While 4 plays just as clunky it is more cohesive and less buggy out of box than Confrontation could ever hope to be.

Granted, Confrontation FINALLY fixed their shit nearly two years later to where it's a subpar shooter, but why settle for that when you can get 4 with a single AND multi-player experience that plays 20x better than it?
confrontation is better, it depends if you are a old school socom fan or not. If you liked the older socom then confrontation is way better.

Every time I go to the gaming side, I look for this thread hoping for a title change, something like "PSN IS BACK!" :'(

I'm not much of a multiplayer gamer, especially of the FPS sort, something about getting fragged and respawning literally every 15-30 seconds, makes me feel like I am seriously wasting my time infront of the TV ( I could be immersed in to a solid campaign story and actually finish it instead of frag, spawn, headshot, rinse and repeat)

Having said that I've spent well over 150 hours online playing SFIV & SSFIV. since I love fighting games (especially Street Fighter) and I am that oldskool gamer that grew up in the early nineties huddled around Neo Geo, StreetFighter, Namco, Sega and Midway Arcade machines. I've also enjoyed and played the shit out if Uncharted 2 MP. It felt very "Team" based (some games) and the third person, climb and hide and sneak and roll, the whole vertical elevation thing played a great role in the MP games and it felt very different than the Killzones the Black Ops the Mags etc.

Anyway I'm not here to trash MP gaming and I'm sure there's a point and satisfaction in FPS MP games despite my lack of patience for it.

Long story short(er) this last page is beginning to sell me on SOCOM. I never played any of the games in the series. And I've played a lotta PS2 games believe you me. Why is the MP good? Taking in consideration my limited taste towards MP gaming. Would I like it if I give it chance or not?

I would agree with you on paper however what contributes to my love for that game is the maps in confrontation are phenomenal. This coupled with the availability of servers that allow for more intimate small 4v4, no respawn on large maps is pure bliss. The damage model is more to my liking and I rather enjoyed the character creator. It took time to get there, but the product is miles more enjoyable and stays more true to the socom formula than 4 ever could. Even after years of patches, I feel it will never pass from decent; the foundation isn't there.

P.S. the single player in 4 is dog shit

Same.

I've gotten used to it not being up though. I guess eventually I'll forget it even exist until that one day when it comes back on. :/

Wish I could change my bet to sometime in June.

I know this has been mentioned before, but this "committing to a date" issue for PSN's triumphant return is almost identical to GT5's delay. People were going nuts, just like they (myself included) are in this thread, without confirmation of the new release date. GT5's release date became a running joke and a dangling carrot. It was a magical moment when Sony finally confirmed the new date.

I hope this doesn't become a trend with Sony. Please let this be the last time they do this. I keep waking up each morning thinking "today could be the day PSN returns." However, in all fairness, Sony isn't purely to blame for the PSN issue.

inFAMOUS 2 can't come soon enough.

I liked the older Socom. Played it them death (up to S2).
And yet I hated Confrontation and I believe SOCOM 4 is the "next gen SOCOM" I was looking for. Heck, I have friends from the old PS2 days jumping back into SOCOM because of SOCOM 4. They even rebuilt the old clan (which I'm now part of).

Buddy was telling me dude at his work traded in his ps3 and like 10 games just to get a xbox slim and black ops, what a fucking rip off. No game especially Blackops is worth that type of loss, only thing I could really see people doing is buying a new computer to play some MMO because there old one broke but come on BLACK OPS?!

and? people can do whatever they want with their money, personally I'm not addicted to online gaming so I can wait until they got it right. I'm also lucky to have a 360 and a PSP/DS with a lot of games still factory sealed, currently playing Gears 3 beta, Dead Space 2 hardcore, FF Duodecim and the 3rd birthday. If PSN was online I'm sure I would be playing KZ2-KZ3 online instead, which is a shame since those games I mentioned are very good ones not deserving to be put in my backlog forever. Also, there's always real life*

who am I kidding, forever alone :(

No

BFBC2, Cod4, KZ2 or 3, Socom Confrontation, Uncharted 2, R6V2

The list is almost infinite on games that have far superior multiplayer experiences.
I think you've trolled the game longer than it has been playable online. Real time.

I'm probably the biggest defender of Confrontation here, and although I still think its gameplay is easily better than S4 from the time I spent with it (in terms of capturing the SOCOM feel)... it's not even close if we're comparing both games in their launch state.

I know you already sold your copy, but if you give S4 the 6+ months it took Confrontation to stabilize, I think you'll be surprised - especially considering the changes they already have lined up in such a relatively short amount of time compared to other SOCOM titles.

EDIT: I forgot what topic I was in for a minute.

SOCOM 4 is nothing like SOCOM so why would you or they like it? All they did was copy different game features and put it in one game. The unique feel is totally lost.

Dudes can't go 3 weeks without their CoD. What are you, crazy?

I know a lot of people that exclusively play CoD on their PS3 systems, they basically get home everyday from work, spend some time with their family and barely have time for a couple of quick games before going to bed. It's some kind of ritual, and since these guys don't visit Internet forums or whatever they're completely clueless about when PSN is going to be back or whether it is bound to be attacked again.

I don't want Sony to commit to a date since this is not a planned "rebuild" of their systems, it would be silly to do that, but you cannot point fingers at people looking for their daily dose of online gaming elsewhere either.

My ps3 is not with me. Is there a way to change my password online somehow ?_?

right now? no
when PSN is back online? maybe Sony will send e-mails with reset password links to those in your situation so they can change their password without physically accessing their PS3's. It's not clear at the moment though.

I have a feeling quite a few people are doing this. A co-worker of mine just sold his PS3 and is getting a 360+BLOPS. A few of his buddies were already trying to get him on the 360 version but this PSN debacle was the tipping point.

NPDs will be quite interesting for April / May.

If people get bent up to the extent that they trade in their PS3 for a 360 at a loss then have to pay $60 annually, then they probably care about multiplayer that much to warrant the extra expense and the loss of a great system.

Ah okay, thanks.

Some of you seem to think the the average "CoD player" has a much of an emotional investment into the console wars as you do. They don't. They want to play with their friends online every night. If they can't do that with PS3 they'll find a system that can. It's not really that hard to understand, nor is it that unusual. People do the same shit with banks, cell phone service, etc. All it takes is one mistake and they move somewhere else.

Trying hard not to laugh, that is kind of sad that someone wants to play that much and goes through all that for a game. Also why didn't they go to that console in the first place? You think each friend will agree to switch over? All that over a game?

So they paid $120 for COD, including the ability to play it online, and will continue to pay $60 for the year after. Sounds like a bargain to me. :\

COD isn't a game, IT'S A LIFE!

Well from another perspective its a healthy attitude. They want to play with friends and the technology is just a means to an end.

Sad? Why? I think it's more sad to be "loyal" to a company like MS, Sony, Nintendo; for them we are just money, for us, having a console and playing games means fun.

If you can't get the fun with the console/games you have I think it's pretty normal to seek for that fun somewhere else.

well even if your previous comments were stupid with the "harm wish" and all that shit I have to agree with you on this one, these are the kind of gamers the companies are aiming for, they don't care about 480, 720 or 1080p, 45 or 60 fps means nothing to them, they just want to have fun with their friends playing the latest "crack" and are willing to pay real money to whoever offer them just this and nothing more.

definitely not the kind of gamers salivating over each new Last Guardian/Dark Souls screenshot released.
