Not to be rude, but we don't care about LastPass in a thread about PSN.

Speak for yourself. S/he's giving us a lesson on PROMPT RESPONSE FROM A LEAK. AKA: SOMETHING SONY DIDN'T DO. >:|

Face it, no matter what Sony said or typed, most of yous would not be happy with it anyway. :-]
You may have a point--I don't know how I would have reacted if Sony handled this differently--but I do think that Amazon.com's and LastPass' reactions to their recent mistakes were much more satisfactory than Sony. I think if Sony responded as quickly and transparently as Amazon.com and LastPass did, I would be more forgiving of their actions now.

You misunderstand. They didn't apologize for making the mistake there; they apologized for any inconvenience that was caused by the mistake. That, at least to me, is different.

What mistake? We're again with the plain text CC info and the non-firewalled servers?

I'm sure that PSN was not the most secure and hack-proof place in all the internet, but they only should apologize for a mistake is their service was less secure than the average of internet services. And we don't know if this is the case (and Sony will never say it, even if it's true, because of the lawsuits).

For the hopefully final time Sony have publicly admitted that they were running unpatched software on their public servers and that was the attack vector used in the intrusion. Take my word for it when I tell you that's less secure than the average internet service, at least amongst services which are the size of PSN.

Wow. Still no apology for failing the consumers with a botched security system, and then throws in the natural disasters for sympathy. That's pretty pathetic.

lol, what's the source of that video?
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I do believe. He even has the right number of syllables for the chant, I can almost hear them singing it. It's amazing.

I am glad someone caught that.

I think the Japan disasters mention was a bit distasteful either, unless he is hitting at things going slower because part of their workforce has to deal with damages from the disaster.

Now that's how you respond to a security breach. Sony could learn a thing or two here.

Um speak for yourself. It's a prime example of how Sony could have handled things differently. So it's very relevant.

It's apples and oranges. Lastpass business is in security, so they are well equip to handle this kind of situation. Sony's main business is electronics, so they weren't as well equip to handle it. Also it was a unique situation with Sony. Sony's people who were suppose to look for these kind of intrusion were too busy with Anon's DDoS attacks to notice it until after it occurred and they have to called in a 3rd party when the logs are missing to verified that something did happened.

Same set of questions for you then...

When did you last purchase content on PSN?
Was it anytime from April 17th-19th? (Check your bank statement.)
If so, did you add the credit card at time of purchase or was it already linked to your account?

Last purchase was around six months ago, card has been linked to my account for years.

Nope, no specific info on which encryption method that was used on the CC has been mentioned by Sony. Is there any encryption methods that are known to be exploitable/decryptable (if that is a word?)?

The card that you use on PSN, have you used it other places as well?

Sure I've used it other places. But it's the only card out of six that I've used on PSN. I realize this isn't proof that the PSN breach was at fault. However, I haven't had a fraudulent charge in 5+ years, and the one that just got charged was the one used on PSN, so I'm a little suspect. However me alone is not a meaningful sample so this is obviously anecdotal.

Are we getting more comments about the distastefullness because a certain site posted an article about how distasteful it was?

QFT. I've been getting all my info on this whole PSN business from this thread. Thanks for keeping the thread updated man. :)

My gawd, what are we thinking. It took Sony almost two freaking years to fix the battery overlay on top of the clock, and here we are two weeks after Sony completely tore down PSN to rebuild it again.

But hey they still have two days! Muhahahauhaawhahwuauawhfuhfanvaba

so many fallen soldiers whose bets have long expired :(
I didn't make a bet, expected PSN be up and running normally since monday, feels like an eternity with no end in sight.

I played D&D and I had no idea what that clip was...

Five :(

I find that hard to believe. Playing D&D without being subjected to Monty Python (and in particular that movie)? Inconceivable!

You probably just blanked it out, it's a defense mechanism.
