Dear Users of the AnonOps Network,

We regret to inform you today that our network has been compromised by a former IRC-operator and fellow helper named "Ryan". He decided that he didn't like the leaderless command structure that AnonOps Network Admins use. So he organised a coup d'etat, with his "friends" at skidsr.us . Using the networks service bot "Zalgo" he scavenged the IP's and passwords of all the network servers (including the hub) and then systematically aimed denial of service attacks at them (which is why the network has been unstable for the past week). Unfortunately he has control of the domain names AnonOps.ru (and possibly AnonOps.net, we don't know at this stage) so we are unable to continue using them. We however still have control over AnonOps.in, and will continue to publish news there.

We would STRONGLY ADVISE all users to STAY AWAY from AnonOps.net and AnonOps.ru, and they should be considered COMPROMISED. Using or connecting to any service on those addresses may put your computer, and by extension your person, at risk.

We will continue to update you on this story, as well as on how we proceed with the future of Anonops.

We are profoundly sorry for this drama, and we can't give you a an estimate on when service will resume normally.

Alas, the IRC-network will probably remain down until we can sort this out.

Priceless. You reap what you sow.

can we assume a price drop for the psp/ps3 after PSN is back?
No, I'd say that's unlikely, given all the money they're currently bleeding out from this catastrophe.

Isn't that the generally accepted reasoning for Sony being hacked at this point?

Melchiah said:
You're saying the PSN customers had it coming?
No, I'm saying that the reason that I've seen generally accepted by many is that Sony had it coming, based on their aggressive stances against hackers, and what I've seen referred to as anti-consumer policies.

Customers never "had anything coming", and should've been protected, and it's bizarre that Sony has carried on through this in such a manner, but that's neither here nor there.

This hack was by thieves not people trying to fight the system.

Isn't Sony trying to point the finger at Anon in this, thus making it a little of both?
If it was Anon, they're lying about their motives. You can't be morally and ethically judicial and steal personal data.

yeah, if there's one thing about the unstructured nature about Anonymous, it brings a lot of drama from people who want to "take over" or turn it into something more than it is. Or they do shit like change Encyclopedia Dramatica to make it more profitable, then claim there were no rules in place to prevent to do that because the "organization" is not centralized or even an organization.

it's just getting more attention now, but they always have squabbles and uprisings. They're like a socialist group populated by people who get into it and decide they hate socialism.

no, i don't think they are...they're still investigating.

but there's a Kaz macro in there somewhere-- fingering anon, three fingers, something something

Well if what I posted a few pages back is true, they're feuding. Some want to war Sony, some do not.

Then why all the attacks were directed towards innocents, like PSN customers and entrepreneurs, who were running the Sony Centers under license?

And when it comes to anti-consumer policies, the hackers are more to blame than Sony. After all, Sony's actions haven't affected the vast majority of users who only want to play games and watch movies, and couldn't care less about OtherOS, CFW or homebrew, whereas the hackers' actions have affected all users.

As ridiculous as these criminals attacks are the responsability for Sony's anti-consumer policies are 100% Sony's.

It's interesting certainly, and maybe some members of Anon are responsible, but just due to the nature of their operation (or at least how they claim they operate) it's hard to really blame them anymore than you'd blame NeoGAF if any member of the board did it.
