PSP Remaster Series Announced for PlayStation 3

I hope the rumored Kojima game is more then just a enhanced Peace walker port to ps3 that can us psp saves.

all new MGS for NGP launch that was ps3 comparable or MGS4 sub for NGP/ps3. anything else would be a disappointment for me.

Its a neat idea they have though.

Someone at Sony better send Valve some NGP dev kits for ultimate cross platform awesomeness.

Soon as I seen this announcement, I immediatly thought the Kojima game would just be Peace Walker, which is a dissapointment, don't get me wrong it's cool to have Peace Walker on PS3, but I would have preffered a new game or Peace Walker 2.

Why not both? It's not like porting PSP games to the PS3 takes a huge amount of resources. Didn't the GOW team release the HD collections alongside GOW3? And those were PS2 games no less.

Ack... Ad Hoc Party? But why can't they just let you play the PSP games online the same way you play PS3 games online?

This sucks for people with wireless connections. Oh well

That would be great too, but what I am trying to say is what Kojima was chatting about having cross compatibility turns out to be for an old game like Peace Walker. Before I thought he was talking about a new game like Peace Walker 2 which will be shown at E3. Now I am thinking it will just be Peace Walker Remaster for PS3 which is cross compatible with PSP/NGP saves.

Browsing through the thread it looks like price hasn't been talked about yet, but how much would you guys be willing to spend? I wouldn't want to spend more than $20 but I imagine these will be $30. If they do bundles like both God of War games or the PSP Metal Gear bundle someone proposed I wouldn't mind paying more, but for things like Monster Hunter, $20 would be the price I'd be happy with.

Just look at the comparison of the Midgar Slums

The top image isn't the Midgar slums.

You're still right though.

Peace Walker, Peace Walker, Peace Walker, Peace Walker, Peace Walker...
.

Give it dual analog controls or whatever and i'm there day fucking one. That goes for any other shooter that had potential on PSP but failed because of the 1 analog stick.

Really though, this is pretty awesome, especially if they go full speed ahead and re-master a lot of games. I'm not expecting every PSP game I've ever wanted to play to be remastered but any of the following would be welcome:

-Valkyria Chronicles 2
-MGS Portable Ops
-MGS Peace Walker
-Final Fantasy 1
-The Third Birthday
-Cladun: This is an RPG
-Crisis Core
-Persona and Persona 3 Portable
-Mega Man Maverick Hunter X
-Mega Man Powered Up
-KH: Birth By Sleep
-Final Fantasy 1 and 2
-Star Ocean 1 and 2

I'm sure not all of these games are good but whatever!

PSP Master Series and they only announce one game...

Let's just hope Sony won't spent too much time on E3 with this.

Pretty obvious he's working on an NGP game after turning up at the reveal. It might still be an enhanced Peace Walker but I think adding new content would lead to compatibility issues if done as a remaster.

God of War CoO and GoS collection for PS3 announced last week for asia market.

Let's be honest, this was probably made especially for MH3 and the two GoW games. Once they had that in place, they were like "fuggit, let's do more..."

Considering this PSP Remaster series, the Classic HD one (God of War, ICO/SOTC etc) and the PlayStation Suite thing, would you say Sony will be abandoning backwards compatibility altogether going forward and just keep re-releasing remastered versions of old games?

We don't know for sure if the NGP will be backwards compatible with PSP games right?

Once the games are available in HD, then that will likely be the form in which they are released on future consoles. If they can get all the games running on the PS3 as these remastered versions, then that'll probably make compatibility easier in the next generation..

I'm pretty sure they said that it will be. Well, the downloadable ones at least.

Well it won't have a UMD drive, so that's out.
Perhaps this is their way to charge for the "PSP Remasters" rather than allowing people whom own the UMDs to simply get a digital pass.

Maybe I should play it. I've had it talked up for so long and still haven't taken the plunge. I loved the old MGS games.

maybe nothing.....By far the best PSP game(imo naturally).....it will leave your hands in pain from some of the battles.

It's backwards compatible with every PSP game purchased on the PlayStation Store.

Which means Go-owners and forward thinkers are rewarded for ditching UMDs.

Yep, that's the genius message Sony is sending.

I don't think console gamers will care about handheld games anyway, four of my close friends are God of War crazy fans and didn't get PSP and God of War CoO/GoS on it because it's handheld, that was no lost PSP sale, they just want console games.

My guess is Sony see this as another pillar for them, if you like handheld ( like Japan) get your favorite game there, if you like consoles get the same game on console.

I'm not sure that the PSP games I'm interested in will be released on PS3. I already have a PSP by the way and played most titles that I wanted to play. I will surely buy the GoW Portable Collection for Ghost of Sparta, but nothing more.

Dissidia 012 would be great on a HD display, but I already own the game on PSP and I never double dip (unless I don't have the game anymore).

why buy a ipod when you can hear the same songs on your home theater system?

Arguably it is easier to listen to music on the go since that is only the sense of hearing, where as playing a game takes into a count sound, visual, and touch.

... Smell and taste for the really hardcore.

Peace Walker has like the worst cramp inducing controls on the system. It's pretty much impossible to play the game for longer than 5 minutes without some serious cramping. I wish Kojima had just made the game for NGP as it would be able to more faithfully recreate his vision for the game.

I mean... honestly, that's why I didn't buy an ipod. Why bother with something portable when stuff is way more enjoyable on a decent setup?

Already posted in the MH thread, but yeah. Sony is indirectly hurting NGP sales in the west because of this.

How is it hurting the sales, when the publisher is probably happy to have their game available on two platforms? Certainly people aiming to get the NGP arent out there buying it for the sake of replaying a remastered game. Making content available in more places is great for all parties, really. The comments equivalent to saying a popular multiplatform titles separate versions are indirectly hurting console and portable sales of competing systems because its available on them.

Amazing news. I hate portables, and especially hate when my favorite series move over to them. Can't wait to get a few games on this.

Just to be clear, here is the universal 'port interest' formula

If you haven't player the game yet - "Great, bring it on"

If you have played the game before - "Another port, wtf I want new games"

Also, anyone here saying that second line need to consider that there may be no better year to buy new games so go buy one and leave it alone.

Some people are talking here like ALL PSP exclusives will made it in the collection at some point.
Be prepared to be disappointed if you think so. S-E games won't make it, I'm pretty sure of it. Peace Walker and Portable Ops ? Maybe.

JRPGs ? I don't think so.
