PSP v4.00 Update "changeliste"

I'm too bored to comment here again so I will just quote the message I posted at the PS Blog:

To be honest, it’s a pretty lame update.

I understand that there may not be many features to add on PSP anymore but I expected an improvement over the archaic web browser at least.

Also, when are we supposed to hear about PS3’s FW 2.40? Stop burying your heads in the sand and announce a solid date at last! Leaked videos of in-game XMB are all over the internet and you have yet to comment on it. Jesus! What are you waiting for?

Let's spam PS blog with questions about FW 2.40:lol Eventually, they will give us a hint on when to expect it.:D

A feature I'd like to see is "Remote Download" to work with the existing Remote Play function. It would work like this: A user would use Remote Play to download some content (for example, a group of songs) from the PS3 to the PSP, and save that content on the PSP's Memory Stick. He could then turn off Remote Play and play the songs from the Memory Stick. There are several benefits of this:

1. PSP doesn't have to maintain a Wi-Fi connection, meaning the user could roam freely without having to stay within 100-150 feet of the hotspot.

2. Maintaining a Wi-Fi connection uses a lot of battery power. Once you disconnect from Wi-Fi, you'd be playing content from Memory Stick, so the battery life should be much better.

3. You could also turn off the PS3 and save energy at home.

The other long missing PSP firmware feature is, of course, the ability to create custom playlists from the PSP itself. That, combined with the Remote Download concept I've just outlined, means that a user on the go could easily refresh his PSP music selection from his entire library of PS3 music at home, using only a brief session of Wi-Fi access.

If the firmware space is holding them back, just start making the cool stuff PSP-2000 only. I WILL BUY A NEW ONE IF I NEED TO.

Bah, I wanted:

- radio
- instant messenger
- better browser
- support of more formats
- playstation store
- good working demo channel
- more fun things :D

Just because they haven't announced anything else in 4.0 doesn't mean there is nothing else. With a PS3 update around the corner, there is a strong possibility of some tie-in. They wouldn't announce it until the PS3 update is out though. A major firmware update also usually implies substantial internal changes, some of which may or may not be visible in the first release.

This is true. We actually knew about the PSOne emulator and downloadable PS Store games before Sony officially announced them, thanks to modules discovered in the firmware.

But anyways, yeah, this is a pretty ho-hum update.

Google directly on XMB?
Just what I was hoping for!

Please allow us to put our own bookmarks directly on XMB too, Sony! I want a GAF bookmark directly under the Network icon.

Sounds like a nice way for them to pull in a few bucks by referring people to google search like Firefox does. Nothing more... I'm actually amazed that they are even calling this a feature.

The one feature that I really, really, really want, and which shouldn't be hard to implement whatsoever, is video out to the PS3 via USB.
What's wrong with existing Video out?
Or are you talking about recording videos to PS3?

I agree - there's other benefits to this (including being able to use PSN store to buy/download stuff to PSP without needing an actual store to run on PSP). But this is more a PS3 feature then PSP one, to be fair :)

Wish in the PSP2 they include enough memory for true websurfing. Sure, I'm not looking for it to do what my PC can do, just normal websurfing @ no loss of viewing experience (i.e. cutting out all images for example).

Also, a freaking touch sensitive screen (ala NDS) for website address (or other keyboard traditional data input) would be top notch.

Other than that, I'm happy with whatever they add to my PSP2.

As for the PSP1, I'm not sure they can do much more beyond what they have now.

it'd be awesome if they allowed you to watch DVD/BRD movies via the wireless connection but I suppose it's a bandwidth issue.

Actually that would be easier to do than a video game. It's an MPAA issue.

seriously is it really that fucking hard to add a simple .txt/e-reader to the psp? or even a calender?

Those two would probably be the most useful additions ever.

actually, they would, and have previously announced PSP updates that tie into PS3 updates before the PS3 update was out.

I thought there's no flash update on any console's browser because Adobe is being a dick by keeping their Flash software to themselves..

Though I'm kinda glad that I can Youtube on my Ipod Touch though not through Safari
