Looks like a great game - Thanks, will be picking up a copy in anticpation of more haxxor related goodness allowing me to play it soon.

FFVII should keep me occupied until then.

Brave Fencer Musashiden is on-sale for like 2 bucks in just about every game store in Akihabara too.

After fiddling with the Playstation Emulator for a few days, I have to say this...

I regret buying a PSP :(.

It's cool... it really is. An almost perfect PSX emulator for the PSP. It's amazing, Final Fantasy VII in my hands...
Then it hit me. These are the same old games I have already played (duh, I own the CD's). It's complete novelty. I don't want to play all these old games again just because it's on a PSP now.

Thanks GAF. Thanks a lot for making me purchase a PSP. Now it's sitting here in my lap, wondering about it's existance. I'm not going to buy PSP games (and NO to download), so what I'm gonna do with this thing now? Now I've delayed my new-notebook-purchase even more :(

*cry cry*

no one cares
Thanks. You made me come to my senses and not buy a PSP. I can play those damn psx games on my ps2.

with that dpad? no, I don't care

Probably cause they can play the arcade version at full speed already on PSP. :P
...please, tell me how to fix that dpad :(

Was playing through FFVIII today and I can confirm that it does crash at the Comm Tower boss not far into the game =(

Damnit, that's one I wanted to play. Any way to avoid the crash? Probably not?

Final Fantasy 8 = Perfect (NTSC) Confirmed Crash at Comm Tower Boss

Seems...uh, not really.

Some people apparently got passed that boss. It seems that using the Scan spell causes a crash, and that boss is prone to use Scan a lot. If you can kill it quickly and you luck out, you'll clear that without issue.

So I've heard. Someone test it by casting Scan.

Sorry I can't hear what you're saying, the arcade version of MvC running at 100% speed on my PSP seems to be drowning you out.

SFA3 capcom dpad attachment.

I put one on my PSP and never looked back. It's perfect for just about any game, 2D or 3D.

I have the same.

Alternatively, you can use a quarter!

Man, I thought people were kidding with the quarter bit until I tried it and it actually improved the control for fighters!!

What's the deal with the d-pad, it looks like a dualshock d-pad but it doesn't control near as well, at least regarding fighters.

Something wasn't right when I was pulling off fireballs in my sleep with that classic Playstation d-pad for nearly a decade and I could barely do it half the time on the PSP.

my bad che, i could have sworn 2.81 was cracked for the old mother board.

nice playing Omega Boost on the PSP - i'm now dragging all my rubbish out of the cupboard of death so i can rip them all.... ugh.

Can you fill me in? How do I do this ... quarter ... thing?

they list Omega Boost as not working in the maxconsole compatibility thread, but a lot of games on that list are wrong, like Tomba doesnt work for me but they list it as working.

You basically just tape a quarter to the d-pad.

Yeah, yeah....it sounds half-assed, but there is a surprisingly level of effectiveness comparatively to the straight d-pad on fighters until you learn to play with the analog or finally get yourself that SFA3 d-pad topper.

ok so i got a PSP with PSP firmware 2.60, anyone know where i can find a step by step on exactly what to do? ie how to figure out my motherboard, and how to downgrade upgrade etc.. i've been outta the PSP homebrew scene fo awhile.

Sort of answering my own question from before, I've downloaded PSPShot 0.3, but how do I use it in 3.2 OE-B? I asked it to go to the XMB but it didn't seem to want to. I want to take some shots of my PS1 games.

Anyone here playing Parasite Eve 1 and did the conversion for 2 PBP files to one large file so no disk swapping is required?

I ripped the 2 CD's into bin/cue and used the converter, I added my own Icons and pictures, and converted to PBP from one single big .Bin file. I load it up on my PSP, the emulator starts, I get to the PS screen but I don't get that "licensed by blah blah blah" writing at the bottom of the PS logo.

If anyone knows what I did wrong I'd appreciate the help.

No prob DC. I hope they crack 2.81 soon. If not, ultimately it's no big deal. I can still enjoy PS1 games flawlessly on my PS2. :P Or I will trade a coworker.

Yo, we need to hook up this week. Prob at Jake's thing on Thursday? Cormack, you too.

Ive only got round to converting Front Mission 2 & 3 both work very well.. only issues ive found with them is with fm2 after any wanzer modification is done all your mech sprites are corrupted. which makes playing it a little difficult :)
fm3 on the other hand is a lot more stable, but it does crash out when the battery gets low, but thats no biggy with regular saves.
think its time to invest in a larger memstick.. :D

barely found out that this requires ps3. Dissapointment total.

Incorrect. There is a stripped down BASE.PBP which does not include the actual Hot Shots Golf game, which can be downloaded on a PC. However, apparently there are still some copyright concerns about the code included in it, so I can't post a direct link to it.

is there something wrong with games with 2 discs? because I plan to play Dragon Quest VII on the PSP and I dont want to get screwed later on because of the disc swapping thing.

If the game does not allow saving right before the disc swap (so you can load the save with the 2nd disc) then it won't work properly. Also you need to make sure your two eboots have the same Save ID, you can do that with PSX2PSP.

Edit: I'm an idiot.

I've now gotten Croc 2 and Megaman legends 2 working on the console, and I want to make some good wallpaper with them.

OK, for those who
a) played all worthwile PSX games already
b) dont like retro gaming and feel no nostalgia playing some of the great old games again
c) dont understand the PSP is a portable system that lets you play those games on the go
for all those PSPPSX is quite a waste of money and time

For all others it is just great. I never owned a PSX and didnt play any PSX games. I wouldnt play them on a PC emulator or PS2, because the graphics are a little dated. But on a portable device I dont care THAT much about graphics and actually they look much better on the small screen. And there are nearly no load times.

I play RE3 on PSP rather than GC because it looks so much better (actually better than nearly all PSP games). Even Silent Hills grainy graphics look OK on the PSP. And 2D games just look perfect.

And how many people have really played all great PSX games and so thoroughly that it doesnt make sense to explore at least some of them again? If there was a perfect PC emulator on PSP I sure would revisit some of the old classics again, even if I played many of them...but I never had the time to play all of them completely.

Not to delve into the realm of piracy but a system that allows me to play my PlayStation games without any extra cost (i.e. not having to re-buy my games via PSN) is AMAZING.

Alas I do not have my original Tomba and I cannot find it for sale for a decent price so I am rather sad. Ebay it is I guess.

Looking back on MML2, the ingame cutscenes were really great for their time, the simplicity really works well for it.

I have the GC versions of RE2/RE3 so I dont really feel bad playing some "backup copies" on PSP right now. I will buy Silent Hill as soon as I can get it on ebay. And I would buy all other games gladly throguh Playstation 3 as soon as Sony lets me (hopfully march).

I can understand portability, but does the PSP add stuff to the games like a certain emulator does?

no but the size of the screen do help

You know, I too came down after that "PSX high" and realized I don't care about playing too many PSX games on the go, but that's okay...I didn't buy this second PSP just for playing PSX games. It's the near-perfect CPS 1/2 and Neo-Geo emulation COMBINED with the PSX emulation that made me do it.

I'm loving just being able to play Puzzle Fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom, Garou MOTW, and KOF 2002 on the go...the rest is all icing on the cake. :D Being able to play PSP games at 333mhz speed doesn't hurt, either.

About that, I'm goddamn surprised that the GBA & NeoGeo emulation are close to the perfect emulation. In some part, it's even better than on my PC!

My PSP is now 3.02 OE-B!!!!

WOOOOT!11

Any common games that rip to under 256 mb? My 4 gb stick isn't gonna get here for a while because of the holiday, so I only have the 256 mb stick that came with this PSP (that I got raped for on amazon).
Crash Bandicoot 2 comes in at under 200 MB, as does Crash 3 with the Spyro demo ripped out. You're pretty much shit outta luck for anything else though.
