PSP WET CHRISTMAS DREAMS!!! PSX EMULATOR OUT!!!

Is the fourth brightness setting only supposed to work with the PSX emulator or something? I played Rondo of Blood but I was only able to cycle through the three lower settings. Though you can still run other applications on the brightest setting if you change it in the XMB before starting, you just won't be able to go back if you change it while the application is running.

So I'm currently in the process of downgrading to 1.5. Where is a good guide on upgrade to the 3.10 OE? I haven't been able ot find one yet?

(This is the version I want to be able to play my PSOne games on it, correct??

BUT NOBODY JUST LEAVES THEIR GBA_BIOS.BIN UP ON THEIR WEBSITE WITHOUT ZIPPING IT TO SAVE SPACE!!!

the readme in the 3.10 OE-A updater is a pretty good guide for what you have to do.

I'm creating the 3.10 Upgrader right now. It's going fine.

I don't see anything in there about Popstation though.

To use Popstation (and rip my PSOne games), do I need to only use the 3.03 firmware?

I noticed when playing my CPS2 emulator, it only let me use the original 3 brightness settings. I guess so (but XMB worked fine on 4th brightness).

Come to think of it, I don't remember a new version of popstation being included with either of the 3.10 OE-A packages. Probably still using the 3.03 OE-C version, then.

Speaking of popstation, if say I already created a eboot with custom pics, can I reuse that eboot & change the custom pics on it? OR would I have to start the process all over for new pics?

also can eboots be compress after they are made?

Some GUIs or tools will allow you to reapply images and whatnot.

Not sure if they can be compressed after the process though. Your best bet is to use a GUI or tool to extract the ISO from the eboot, and then just redo it, with compression and the proper trimmings applied.

I think the popstation in 3.10 OE-A and A2 are different since it allows you to bump up volume and gamma settings for popstation games.

I can access the 4th core (aka brightness) from both XMB and popstation. Haven't tried CPS yet so I don't know.

The POPS emulator is new, yes, but popstation.exe and related files weren't included in Dark Alex's 3.10 OE-A or 3.10 OE-A' (A2) archives. I'm still using the same popstation.exe that came with 3.03 OE-C.

to clear up some confusion, the popstation emulator is a part of the PSPs firmware

the popstation.exe is a tool that builds the iso and icons to a proper format that the psp will recognize and run

quick question, has anyone used that Tekken D-Pad that was given out as a pre-order bonus? I have one sitting around, but I don't want to put it on and gunk up my system if it is crap.

So that means the software that runs the PSX eboots is the official Sony emulator?

Hell yeah. Why do you think it works so well? The homebrew PSOne emulator (probably dead now) is almost completely useless.

I assumed it was Sony's official emu but I just needed to know from some people who are much more knowledgable in this feild than I. Thanks.

How much has the PSOne emulator changed? I had 3.02 OE and battle transitions worked correctly with Final Fantasy VII. I upgraded to 3.03 OE and the battle transitions quit working. With 3.10 OE are they fixed again?

With my pal ff7 it works much better.
I don't have the bug with the cursor in battle anymore .
The blurry waves before battle are not there but who cares about that ?

Sony's emulator is basically being updated based on their upcoming PS1 release catalog more than any sort of grand repair scheme, so expect to see some things break when other things get fixed. Milestone releases (like the stuff for euro-PS3 launch) are more likely to have across the board compatibility improvements.

I'd dare say (for 3.03 downgraders, at least) to try holding off minor updates just to keep the flash kosher. I'm sure 3.11OE is on the way but I think it's smarter to just wait on 3.2x next month unless there's a fix documented that you really could use.

So flashing alot is bad?

Since I got mine a year and two months ago, I went from 2.01 (Japanese Ceramic White launch model) -> 2.6 -> 2.71 -> 2.80 -> 1.5 -> 3.02 OEA -> 3.02 OEB -> 3.03 OEA -> 3.03 OEA' -> 3.03 OEB -> 3.03 OEC -> 3.10 OEA -> 3.10 OEA'.

Does this cause some sort of damage I'm unaware of, Crazymoogle?

You could be fine. Sony is certainly expecting quite a bit more flashing with the rate their upgrades are going, so flash sector failure (if it happens) is equally likely no matter what you install.

But as Noobz pointed out, the downgrader leaves behind some trash and the custom firmwares could be a little dicey from time to time. If you get backed into a corner with flash sectors remaining, or the hack firmware touches on something unexpected for your motherboard, you could be looking at a brick. I think 3.03OEC and onward are doing format flash now, so there's nothing really to gain from incremental upgrades unless you need the functionality the upgrade provides.

Just updated to 3.10, strange new glitch, whenever I kill a large enemy (like those giant wolves in the beginning) a big black box flashes over them as they die. Anyone else see this?

What the heck? My firmware doesn't have giant wolves.

EDIT: 3.11 decrypted.

holy shit, you can't finish a sentence without a new firmware being released!

Wow. So 3.11 has no Popstation updates?

It must have, it adds a reset option, and fixes R-Type, which was apparently broken in 3.10.

But DA must not think them important enough, especially considering that these will also be available in 3.12 or 3.20, or whatever comes next.

What does it fix in R-Type?

And which R-Type are you talking about -- R-Types or Delta?

A few weeks ago, there was talk about how the 3.03 downgrader left some files hanging around that made it impossible to reinstall Sony's 3.03 without bricking the system. Has that been resolved?

3.03 OE-C's hampering my attempts to play online :(

Which online game are you trying to play?

Will I have trouble playing online PSP games with 3.10 OE-A2?

I'm gonna have to cycle back to legit Sony firmware in order to play some review games online and make sure they boot normally. I tried running 3.03 OE-C at all the default settings to no avail, and a quick Google turned up many others encountering similar issues with online play.

Surely whatever the game is, it can't require higher than 3.03... which is downgradeable, right?
