PSP WET CHRISTMAS DREAMS!!! PSX EMULATOR OUT!!!

Avalon said:
Another quick question....

Is there any major negatives to compressing files? Or is this something that varies a lot?

None.

Out of the dozens I've tried, I've never found a single PS1 game that has a problem due to compression. The PSP decompresses very fast, and since these games were coded for a system that only had a 2X CD drive with slow seek times- it's just not an issue at all.

P.S. Now playing Soukyuu Gurentai on my PSP. Cool SHMUP. :)

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I don't understand why playing PSX games the PSP has rejuvenated my interested in my old games, but I'm having a blast. ^^

Me too! In fact I missed out on a LOT of great PS1 games, largely because I tried so hard to keep up with all the systems at that time. But the good part is that now I have many great PS1 games to play for the first time on my PSP. :P

What do you compress the files with?

I use PopStationGUI 3 by Zinga Burga - I've also used PSX2PSP, Ice Tea etc. and PopStation GUI it's by far the best of its kind IMO.

But all the popular POPS proggies support compression.

I'm using Icetea. Idiot-proof interface and it works extremely fast. :)

EDIT: Anyone try Legend of Mana? Works well except the animations during area creation are all messed up/missing. :(

Damnit bitches, don't bump this until 3.30 OE-A comes out.

Thanks.

Edit - For the record, I used to use PSX2PSP to covert/compress my PSOne games, but more recently I started using IceTea. About when PSX2PSP saw that large span of time (relatively speaking) where it wasn't updated. Haven't really converted anything since it caught up, so I'm no longer sure which is better.

haven't checked this thread in a while, has there been any breakthrough in multi-disk games (Outside ones that you could do in the first place)

It would be easier to got to 2.71 first, then downgrade to 1.50.

can someone explain to me how to arrange the different rom sets to get cyberbots or marvel vs capcom to work in the cps2 emulator? i'm caching the roms but getting error messages?

3.30 OE-A has been released

heres a list of whats new in case you don't know already.

Changelog:

- Updated from psp firmware 3.10 to 3.30
- Fixed a bug that could have caused inestability in 3.10 OE after recovering from sleep mode.
- Patched a protection that prevents the firmware to load higher firmware modules.

popsloader note: it won't work on 3.30 OE due to sony rearranging again the module list of pspbtcnf_pops.
(thanks sony for destroying my backwards compatibility again ¬¬ ).
I'll make a new version one of these days to support all current pops in 3.30 OE, 3.10 OE and
maybe 3.03 OE-C.

I'm assuming I can't ask for help backing up my LEGIT copy of Castlevania (can take pics to prove authenticity) to play on the PSP. I keep getting this corrupt data problem after I use popstation to convert the .img file and bring it over to the PSP. I really want to play portable Castlevania SotN. :(

Keep the folder names short. Don't use 'Castlevania - Symphony of the Night', but instead try something like CV - SotN.

3.30 OE-A and 3.40 OE-A can't use the old 3.10 OE popsloader. But he is working on a new one.

Keep in mind, however, that 3.40 POPS modifies PSOne save games in such a fashion as to break compatibility with older versions of POPS. (You are prompted before the save file modification occurs, so you can always back up your pre-3.40 saves to the PC.)

Make sure folder folder hierarchy is correct.

It should be:

\PSP\GAME\<game folder>\EBOOT.PBP

Not

\PSP\GAME\<game folder>\<another folder>\EBOOT.PBP

I'm using 3.03 OE-C. Tested with SimplePopstation GUI 3 beta and PSX2PSP 1.2. My folder hierarchy is also correct.

I managed to backup my copy of Tomba! 2 without fail which is why this strikes me odd. I also re-converted my backup of FF Tactics I made a while back to see if something was screwy with Popstation but that worked fine as well.

Thanks for the suggestions and help guys. I'm going to convert my 1x mode backup now.

EDIT: OMG YES, it works! What the hell, do any of you have to backup with the slow ass 1x mode? I guess the burner on my laptop is just shitty. Sorry for the trouble guys.

I have a desktop with TWO disc drives (CD-R and DVD-R), and I typically skew to the slower (if not the slowest) settings when ripping images. For this, I can be patient, and I've yet to have a bad rip.

Final Fantasy VIII seems to work without freezes.
Final Fantasy IX no longer has slow-downs.
I hear that the SotN graphical issues introduced with POPS 3.10 have been resolved.

I think there were more, but I couldn't say really.

Just so I don't have to filter through the 50+ pages of this thread, can anyone point me to a site that sort of shows how to go through this whole process to set it up on my PSP so I can install this new firmware and play backups of my legitimate PS1 games?

The instructions included with the OE firmware are extremely simple.

Does anyone have a simple guide for using this ps1 emulator.

I don't want to look though the whole thread.

1) Make an iso from your disc
2) Use a program like PSXPSP to create the eboot and copy the folder with the eboot to /psp/game
3) Launch it from the memory stick menu under the game menu on the XMB
4) Enjoy

Interesting. I just patched my backup of Xenogears with this patch: Xenogears 2.0. It works perfectly with Popstation (I'm still using 3.03 OE-C) and it gives the game a slightly more authentic slant, if you will. It doesn't really change much aside from reverting controls and audio back to Japanese but if you're jonesing to replay it might as well try it out with these changed features.

Anyone else know of any PS1 patches aside from the Tobal 2 english one?

I've been eager to upgrade on most occasions... but this 3.30 -> 3.40 update was so fast that I've hesitated, especially with the Pops save format changing....

Policenauts coming soon!

Just joined the fold after my previous failed attempt. This time I had a friend juice my PSP up.

Question, what's the best Nes emulator right now, as far as compatibility and reliability? Thanks.

Is there a way to reduce loading?

I converted a copy of snk vs capcom and it shouldn't be taking 5 seconds to load each match, should it?

Wow! That Xenogears patch is SOOOOOO HOT. How far have you played Xenogears on PSP? Any popstation problems/hangs/etc?

Nah works perfect except for the fact you can't transfer your save over to the 2nd disc. The best part? Dan isn't annoying anymore.

While we're on the topic of HOT games I just re-found my copy of Tomba 2 and ripped it at 1X. Works perfectly and I get the full soundtrack/voice overs now. Tomba 2 is such an awesome game and now I can finally enjoy it on a portable system. PSP IS AMAZING!

Hi there!

I check around this thread but couldn't find the whole HOW TO for all of this. Could someone point towards a source that has every answers for someone who doesn't know a thing about the PSP but his interested in learning about the ways to play PS games on it?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link - You sure both of your discs are using the same naming settings otherwise the save doesn't work (assuming you can save at the end of disc one) also you can get a save file here and import it using Popstation.
