PSP WET CHRISTMAS DREAMS!!! PSX EMULATOR OUT!!!

Can someone tell me if the information HERE is reliable to play PSX games on a PSP? That would be really appreciated!

Also some quick questions......

- How do you plug your PSP into a computer? Is it using a cable that comes with your PSP? A special USB cable?

- What does it mean to 'brick' your PSP?

Thanks again in advance guys!:)

The PSP and PC connect to each other via a mystical supernatural force known as "ki."

- What does it mean to 'brick' your PSP?

It's when you accidentally drop either a brick or cinder block onto your PSP.

It's safe to play ps1 games, and there are easier ways to install 3.XX OE custom firmwares. There are a bunch of easy installers out there that only require you to drop and drag, start the program, and cross your fingers.

1) Yes, use the mini usb cable that comes with the psp, or any mini usb cable you may have with cameras and such. Once connected, go to the left most part of the xmb, and choose usb connect. You'll then be able to browse the files through your computer.

2) It means that it's like a brick... something that won't turn on, and is best used as a doorstop.

1) Can you direct me towards one of the easier programs that you mentioned?

2) So that means that the PSP's inner system has been completely corrupted by a faulty installation?

Thanks for your answers. Greatly appreciated!

I toasted my last PSP and my new replacement also has the newer incompatible suckfest of a motherboard.
Dammit, this was some exciting news.
I don't think there is any incompatible motherboard dude... they hacked them awhile ago, unless I'm mistaken.

By the way guys, with this emulator on there, can I still be able to play PSP games?
Of course.

I still not sure how/where to change the Game ID & Save ID though :D

Apparently FF8 is working with this method as well, but I really don't understand the process.

When you use whatever program you use to make the eboot from the iso you change the game id and save game id. The program I use is PSX2PSP.

Just tested with Musashi and it worked like a charm. Used the the Biohazard dsic 1 game code (SLPS01222) since the Japanese Musashi one didn't work.
Woooooooooooooooooooooo

Playing ff8 right now. its working ace, what is supposed to be the problem? also been a longtime since i played it. FF8 allows you to save at the end of the disc and then insert the next? or is it the MGS method.

You save at the end of the discs for every FF game on PSX, so they're all good.

The problem was the game froze a lot in certain places, I guess it was due to the game ID not matching :/
who know it would be so simple.

Question: how long is it supposed to take the DXAR updater to create the file? Mine's been at it for about 30 minutes and it stuck at "Extracting and Packing 3.40 firmware". THe orange light is still blinking too :-\

Try reformatting before you do it. My friend had a similar problem.

Does it matter which memory stick you use when updating? I want to put 3.40oe on my PSP (again...first time screwed up), and I'd rather reformat my 1gb instead of the 4gb I've been using. Will this cause any problems later on?

Doesn't matter which mem stick you use for updating. To be safe, make sure you have plenty of free space (100 mbs or more) and that it's a LEGITIMATE (not a bogus) mem stick. To be absolutely safe, format it before the flash.

Does hotshot golf 2 from the psn store work on 3.40 oea? i just got a psp 2.71 ta82 downgraded to 1.5 then to 3.40 oea. Got the HSG2 off psn to get the file and cant get it to run.

Anyone know the use of the game340 folder?

The game340 is to use programs designed for 3.40 when you the firmware set to 1.50 mode. Since you just upgraded I'm going to assume you have the default settings and just need to stick folder with the eboot inside /psp/game/

Okay, upgraded to 3.30 OE-A using SomethingAwful's guide now I'm confused that to do, exactly. I've read through the thread, but don't quite understand how PS1 loading works. Is it feasible to be able to play any PS1 games from my collection on a 512mb card?

Some games don’t work, but there are quite a few that do. Actually most of FF8’s graphic glitches, and game freezes get fixed in 3.40 oe-a.:)

As for getting it on your 512mb card, you may get 1 or 2 PS1 games on it depending on the game and compression setting you have.

You need a couple of things first:

1) You’ll need a program called popstation, I think they have many GUI versions out there, but I used the command line one that comes with the OE FW (I think that the last one came out with 3.03 OE-A

2) You’ll need you PS1 game, to rip to you PC as an image. I think the program accepts iso, bin, and a few others. You’ll need to know the game’s code which is written on the disc itself (i.e. SLUS-00000)

3) After that if you have images you would like to make for the game’s icon and background (seen via the PSP’s menu) you need to make 2 png files labeled ICON0.png (144 x 80) and PIC1.png (480 x 272)

4) Run popstation on the PS1 image and it will create an EBOOT where you’ll need to place in a folder (name it something short for the game) and drop that folder in the GAME directory on your PSP.

That’s basically it. After you do it once or twice it’s really simple.

There's probably a bunch of guides out there on this.. but if you do a search on popstation you'll probably find the app (whether its the command line one or a GUI) and a simple readme.

Hope I didn't forget anything. Hope this helps.

I hope this is OK (if its a problem then please delete) but I found the basic readme from Dark_Alex's popstation for FW 3.03oe-a (at least this is what comes with the FW) with full instructions:

popstation is a program that will convert your psx games into an eboot.pbp playable in 3.03 OE-A
firmware.

NOTE: eboot.pbp generated by this tool may not work in 3.02 OE-B due to some changes (however all
eboot.pbp generated by the previous version work ok in 3.03 OE-A)

Before starting to read, a note:

European games (pal) give various graphics problems: graphics glitches, and displacement of screen.

It's better to use only ntsc games (american and japanese), whenever possible.

Instructions:

- Get the Hot shots 2 game of the playstation store, and its keys.bin, and put it in the same
directory than popstation, renaming it from EBOOT.PBP to BASE.PBP.

Even if using other ps3store game could work, it is not recommended because the program was
done specifically using this one. USE HOT SHOTS 2 USA.

(Note: this is needed in order to get the data.psp and a few data).

- Backup your psx CD to a cd image, using some tool for that.

- Put the iso in the same directory than popstation.

- Execute popstation.exe from the command line. You have to pass 4 parameters:

1: The title of the game

2: the game code, which must start by SCUS, SLUS, SLES, SCES, SCED, SLPS, SLPM, SCPS, SLED,
SLPS, SIPS or ESPM, and be followed by a number of 5 digits.

3: Compression level, a number between 0-9.
0 indicates no compression. 9 indicates maximum compression, but the program will take more time to compress the iso.
1 indicates minimum compression, but the program will take less time to compress the file.
The rest of values are intermediate between those, with 6 being the default compromise between
the speed and the compression.

4: the path of the iso.

Example:

> popstation "DraculaX - Nocturne in the moonlight" SLPM86023 9 draculax.iso

The program will generate the EBOOT.PBP, it may take some time, depending of the size of the iso and the compression level.

The way in which the icons and other files are put inside the pbp has changed from the previous version.

Now there is no limit in size, and you can also add snd0.at3 and icon1.pmf, appart from icon0.png, pic0.png, pic1.png.
The behaviour is the following:

if you have one of the files in the same directory as the application, the program will take that
for the pbp. Otherwise, the PBP will miss that certain file. This is true, except in the case of icon0.png,
where if no one is found in the same directry as the app, the application will use the one from base.pbp.

Note: The program is compiled using cygwin. Therefore, cygwin dll's are required if you don't have them
Google cygwin1.dll to find it. (note: also cygz.dll is required in this version, due to use of zlib)

- Transfer the EBOOT.PBP to the folder you like inside /PSP/GAME and launching it
from 3.03 OA-A XMB.

There's been a few version changes to fix bugs and stuff, but that's basically it.

As for the Hot Shots Golf 2 thing, I'm not sure if that necessary any more, but like I said, whatever version of popstation you download will have it's own readme.

Again, hope some of this is helpful.

Running a 2.71 with the TA-082, so I take it, just run the easy installer, the follow the readme there after? I take it PSP Hauptverzeichnis Wählen! is the PSP folder on your memory stick?

I swear, it's like no one even READS these threads.

You've got like 2700 posts in a thread dedicated to illegitimately running PSOne games on your PSP. REST ASSURED that someone in here has managed to do what you want. Run a freakin' search.

:lol :lol :lol

why should they do something like 'read' or 'search' when they can just get someone else to do all the 'hard' work?

and then end up with a brick because they didnt put any work in

GAF makes it easy. You can search WITHIN a thread, and when all else fails, CTL-F works in both IE and FF.

I'm sick of seeing this thread bumped and expecting some interesting news, only to see another snot-nosed PSP newb mewling for help, when all the help you need (and more) is RIGHT FREAKIN' HERE.

Question: How do you play games that require multiple discs?

Scenario 1: Many multi-disc games prompt you to save before the disc swap. Save, remove that eboot from your PSP, and plop the next one in. Make sure that ALL of the disc eboots have the same PSOne gamedisc-ID number, otherwise disc 2/3/4 eboots won't be able to find a save created by disc 1/2/3 eboots, etc. I typically use the number of disc 1 for all of the eboots.

Scenario 2: The game was fan-patched and an eboot was created containing all of the discs together. (Hope you have a large memory stick.)

Scenario 3: In case the first two scenarios are impossible, you can use a homebrew app called CWCheat to convert your PSP save file into a save compatible with the popular PSOne emulator for the PC (ePSXe, IIRC?). Load up your game on your PC using your original disc and this emulator, load up your converted save, pass the disc-swap barrier, and save again. Then use CWCheat to convert the new save back into a PSP format.
