PSVR, headphones and eyeglasses - Please help

Hey, everyone. I'm getting a PSVR next week and I plan on buying headphones to go along with it, considering by all accounts the earbuds it comes with are trash.

However, I have a problem. I don't know which headphones to get. Typically, this maybe wouldn't be an issue but headphones I've worn or bought before usually hurt my head. See, I wear glasses and the part that would go around my ears gets smooshed into my head while wearing headphones.

So, my question: Are there any headphones that are comfortable for people that wear glasses?

They don't have to be of an extremely high quality or anything. Something that's good and that will get the job done while in VR, considering I won't use them otherwise.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

With or without my glasses, the Sennheiser HD558s are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn.

The padding is soft like a baby dear's butt, they fit snug not tight, and they're also open back which means air gets in and your ears don't roast to death.

Plus, they're high quality headphones in their own right.

I can't imagine there will be any problem with them on PS VR. But they're not crazy surround sound cans, so maybe those would be better? I dunno. I like these

Maybe wait til you've tried the ear buds that come in the box. Eurogamers review says they're quite good;

"Rather thoughtfully, Sony provides earbuds out of the box and while the firm could have dropped in low quality offerings here, sound reproduction is fairly decent and there's even an appreciable punch in the lower range."

Came in here to post that I love these headphones and recently found out they're actually amazing for vr due to the open backs creating a larger soudstage, which amplifies the 3d sound.

edit- woops I have the 598s. Both are in a similar price range.

How many baby deer butts have you touched?

Glasses Pro Tip: Take off your glasses put on headphones then put your glasses back on but resting just above your ear and the headphones. All the fit none of the squish!

As for a recommendation, you cant go wrong with the mid tier Sennheiser headphones especially if you can get them on sale. I've been using HD59SE for everything and they sound amazing. They're also the most comfortable headphones I've used with glasses too no adjustments necessary.

Dunno how it would fit with the PSVR, but the Audio Technica AD700 and AD900 are super comfy. I wear glasses and use the AD900; I can wear them for hours and not feel uncomfortable.

Currently wearing the Philips SHP9500 with my thick arse glasses and experience no discomfort whatsoever, unlike my closed Shure 840's which were awful with glasses.

the ears do sweat a bit though.

Never worked for me, distorts the view too much.

Should be noted that Ive found headphones to slide off my head when worn with the PSVR. You have the big forhead pad and the large straps going around the head. Its very distracting trying to look around in VR while trying to keep headphones from sliding off. Even a lot of the headphones Sony used to demo PSVR would come off my head, and no adjusting really helped. Id wait for some impressions when used with PSVR or get something that allows you to return it if necasarry.

I can reccomend an inexpensive, super light, open back and good sounding headphone that stands firm on your gead and that is the Koss ur40.

I think it depends more on your glasses than the headset tbh. My current headset was fine with my last glasses, but with my current glasses it digs a hole in either side of my head and is extremely uncomfortable.

Fortunately I started wearing contact lenses (partly in preparation for VR :P)

Also I wonder if you could cut a gap in the padding where it pushes on your glasses? Might take some of the pressure off, haven't tried it myself though so I have no idea if they'll just fall apart or something.

Holy crap. I just woke up and saw all the responses. Thanks, everyone.

While trying the ear buds first is definitely an option, a lot of people are going to want to try this thing out at my Halloween party. Sticking the actual VR headset on that many people will be bad enough. No way I'm having everyone try the same ear buds. Haha.

I'll be looking at everyone's suggestions soon.

My headphones of choice are some Audio Technica ATH M50x's, and I love them for my Vive. That said, they're $100-$150 for a pair.

I've recently been totally in love with an earbud combination of XiaoMi Piston 3's with Comply Foam Tips. The sound quality is fucking incredible for the price, the build quality is great with metal enclosures and a braided cable, and the Comply Foam Tips are so comfortable that they make cheap headphones feel rich.

Xiaomi Piston 3: eBay $17
Comply Foam Tips: Amazon $15

I've also got a pair of the Piston 4's which are the same, just a little lighter weight and a little more expensive.

Yeah they're so damn comfortable. Been using them for about 3 years now.

They're still the best headphones you can get at it's price point.

558 and 598 are rather similar. And yeah they're better than surround cans. No way the things that comes with the PSVR are better than a 558/598.

No great headphones will work.
You would either have to suck it up and play in short bursts or get soft (not so good) headphones or earbuds.
The reason your head starts to hurt is the the shape of your skull, I have the same problem.
Do not listen to people here saying this or that headset is good even with glasses, and then waste your money. Their heads have different shapes. They might not even have this problem to begin with.

I'm short-sighted and wear glasses, I've only ever tried VR once and I had contacts in at the time.

My question is though, as the screen is so close to your eyes do you need to wear glasses if your prescription isn't too bad? I need my glasses to see distance clearly but can read etc. without them?

you will be fine. I have the same issue, and always use PSVR without glasses.

Depends on your sight. I can use my gearvr without glasses by moving the dial but I could never get the DK2 clear without glasses with either set of lenses.

Since the lens focus your eyes into the distance it's not like just looking at a screen up close

-edit- I'm also short sighted

Well hopefully I'll be able to use PSVR without them then.

Like the original poster I don't find headphones with glasses particularly comfortable and adding a VR helmet into the mix cannot help.

As some have already mentioned. The Sennheiser are very comfortable. However, the cable is quite long. At least on my set.

Just don't get the Sony PlayStation Gold Wireless Headphone. That shit is terrible for people who wears glasses.

Really? I've had my Gold set for over a year - I wear glasses a lot and have never had an issue. I find them way more comfortable than my wired Turtle Beach set.

My biggest worry with headphones, is cup size (that's what she said?)

I'm looking at getting either a pair of Philips Fidelio X2's or AKG 712 Pro's (leaning towards the X2's), just not sure how they will fit with both glasses and the actual band of the PSVR.

I'm currently using a set of Vmoda Crossfade M100's for my Vive, looking to open up soundstage with open back headphones.

I don't get why people, who I'm assume who are new to the audiophile community keep making comments like these. It's not true at all, headphones aren't like controllers, in fact there's always several great headphones to choose from within certain budgets if you do research instead of just going on whatever is on Amazon's top seller list you'll see that there are different factors to consider when picking headphones such as sound signature, open back vs closed designs, which ear design form factor it is, does it require an amp, etc. And if there was a best headphone it certainty won't be at the 558's price range lol

From the top of my head NVX XPT100/Perfect10s and the Audio Technica ATH-AD700Xs other great headphones within that budget.

Here's an oddly specific question. Does anyone know if the headphone jack for the Sony Wireless Gold headset is CTIA or OMTP? I managed to lose the 3.5mm cable it came with so I'm looking to get a replacement, but I want to be sure it'll also work with the mic.

The Sennheiser open headphones are generally good and comfy.

Or just buy an in-ear.
