PSVR is out this month... 0.o

Does anyone know if the PS4 Pro will provide any advantages to playing VR games? I don't have a 4K TV yet and won't get one till maybe sometime next year. However I have the VR preordered and ready to be here the 13th.

How does it offer more exactly? It offers you slightly prettier versions of the same games you can already play. PSVR offers you exclusive games that you can't play any other way AND a completely new/unique way to play video games.

More Power equals better looking games and a better VR Experience down the the road - I agree that PSVR offers a "completely new/unique way to play video games" but after trying it out and seeing the launch window titles I can wait until more "complete" experiences are available.

I would personally rather spend $400 on new hardware this year instead of $900 - that and I can play most at my buddy's house so I`ll still have a chance to enjoy it

It really isn't, unless you grew up as a kid dreaming of VR and are dying to try it. I have owned a Rift since kickstarter, $300 + free retail version and I never use mine. Its uncomfortable and the games are just not that good, compared to AAA retail games, for my tastes. Sure, there are 1-2 fun games but those get kinda boring after a while and I'd 100% rather be playing Destiny, Forza Horizon 3, Hitman, and soon Mafia 3, Battlefield 1, Infinite Warfare, Watch Dogs 2, FF15, etc instead of a what are basically indie VR games.

If you hate big budget AAA games though I think VR may be really cool for you, since its where a lot of dev experimenting is going on in cool and interesting ways. Thats just not my thing.

For VR to be "great" it needs to be wireless (the wires REALLY suck when moving around), much lighter headsets (your head gets hot as HELL inside these current gen headsets, including PSVR), and much higher resolution/image quality - I have never once felt "lost" inside the Rift, its really obvious I'm still inside a headset to my brain. Unfortunately all of this is years away still, but mass adoption of these 4 systems is definitely going to help research go faster.

All sounds reasonable to me.
Holograms rather than VR were what I dreamed about as a kid ;)
And definitely, thinking about it some more, I'm gonna wait for VR to 'evolve' further down the line.

This is by no means guaranteed. Developers have to specifically design their game to take advantage of Pro. Only one I know of right now that's confirmed to have done it is Farpoint.

I'll grab one whenever the prices start to sink, I might grab VR exclusive games in advance for when that happens if I come across any that interest me for a low price. With that said I still haven't tried it but I plan to do it next week.

NX is the only thing I live and breath rn tbh

Hope those getting psvr have fun with it, vr isn't really for me. Or at least not yet

I have one on preorder but the reports about it being worse than the Vive (screen wise) concern me. The Vive already feels like I'm looking through a screen door.

edit: and pre-order cancelled. Thanks for the reminder OP

I have a strong suspicion that VR just isn't going to take off this gen. It's going to sell well this calendar year, but I think sales are going to drop off significantly next year. I sincerely hope I am wrong and that quality titles keep coming out for it, but I think I'll be able to pick up PSVR next Black Friday for a significant discount. By then I should expect a lot more of the titles that I am interested in like Ace Combat and GT Sport should be available and well tuned. Hope it does really well consistently though!

Made sure to try PSVR in Gamestop to make sure it was what I was hoping it would be. It definitely is. So I've taken two days off to play it. Can't wait.

All these people debating cancelling pre-orders over "no games" are crazy. Guess you haven't done much research. And to those of you cancelling so you can get PS4Pro, I don't understand you either. You're giving up the chance to experience games in a whole new way, giving up games you can only play on PSVR, so that you can play the same games you'll always be able to play and have them be slightly prettier.

EDIT:
Here's my launch games I'll be playing.

100ft Robot Golf
Batman Arkham VR
Battlezone
EVE: Valkyrie
Here They Lie
Job Simulator
Loading Human
The Playroom VR
PlayStation VR Worlds
Rez Infinite
RIGS Mechanized Combat League
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
War Thunder

I've never had so many games to play at a console's launch before. Also REALLY looking forward to Star Trek Bridge Crew, RE7 and Ace Combat 7 when those come out.

heh, I'm the same. All in. I couldn't do without Rez, if I play nothing else it's all worth it for Rez. Can't wait for the couch multiplayer stuff as well.

I'm really excited.

I think this is one of the best launch lineups we've had in a long time.

All of you VR wallflowers and your "cancelled preorderz" can't stop this fun. :)

That's the unlikeliest solution of all, at least in Europe.
Oh wow there is Gamestop, Walmart, Target, Radioshack, Toys R Us, and mom and pop shops that usually get and sell games and gaming tech goods early in my area. I preordered my PS4 prior to release and two of my friends didn't and was both able to pick one up on release from my local gamestop, shocking I know. Best Buy is about a half hour away.

I'm excited about the prospect of VR, but none of the three headsets are hitting the sweet spot for me yet. I might pick up a PSVR next year if it's clear the system is getting good support.

I'm too hyped for it. I have my PS camera already and move controller, I just need a preorder. It seems it's always sells out quickly every time a preorder opportunity comes along. I'm going to be getting Driveclub VR and Eve Valkyrie. PSVR is like a dream come true for me. I hope someone hacks it so I can use it on my PC too 😎

Exactly!! Well said. I am super hyped, I have a few days off work and more games available than I've ever had at a product launch (hell I got my Ps1 and PS2 with 2 games!)

So hyped and can't wait to see some of Gaf on Rigs and Battlezone :)

I'm excited, but unfortunately I have to wait 2 weeks to try it, as I am travelling during release.

Though I can understand people are torn about PSVR. I'm too much of an enthusiast to miss the release, but am also afraid of some kind of gimmick device:

cool for a few hours and to show off to your friends, but nothing you stick with for a longer time.

Which is why software is still king even in the VR space. Luckily, Sony has shown support so far with their internal studios and if all goes well, there will be much better support in the coming years.

Decided I no longer want to support Oculus so I decided to sell my kickstarter Rift and get this instead.
Was already eyeing this, but it felt kinda pointless when I already had a pc headset.
Luckily, pre-orders aren't sold out here so I'll get one on the 13th.

Does psvr het its own video player? if not I'll miss porn as I can't go back to watching it on a regulair old 2d screen anymore.

I'm really curious to see how extended hands on time will play out. People have had maybe at most 30 minute demos at games shows so far. The headset can do decent VR and is by far the most comfortable headset but no one's lived with one yet. I think the comfort will definitely help make PSVR something people are more keen to use more often than people have been with their Rift/Vive, it just feels far more consumer friendly from all reports.

I'm getting mine now after arranging a loan from my girlfriend to cover my preorder, lol, and I'm excited. I know I'm going to like gaming in VR and there's enough stuff I think looks genuinely cool. When I'm bored of all that I'll have a racing game in Driveclub which I know I can keep going back to. Can't wait to try the demos and decide if I'm buying Rigs or Battlezone first. There's some free updates to stuff I already have, and the X Wing mission will likely never get old for me (I hope you can just fly around for ages and it's not guaranteed to only last a few minutes before it concludes).

Mostly I'm just excited at showing it off to my girlfriend and mates. She thought Gear VR was going to be a gimmick but she was impressed when she tried it. PSVR of course will blow that out the water with better optics/screen, positional tracking and much better software available.

My only concern is that the launch is crammed with games but apart from Resident Evil I can't think of much that's coming in the future. Golem, oh and GT (not holding my breath)... I know other games are in the works, some won't have been announced yet, but what else is coming? I really hope this thing sells well enough to justify people like EA investing in some VR content. A Star Wars X-Wing vs Tie Fighter style game based off the Battlefront foundation would just be incredible. Could of course work as a regular game to help with sales but primarily be about VR. I'd love that and content like that would secure the success of the device. Also hopefully more publishers do the Tomb raider thing and give us other modes using the assets created for the main game. Imagine an Uncharted 4 tourist/photo mode in VR. I'm hopeful PSVR will be the thing to kickstart VRs wider exposure and acceptance and I'm fairly confident getting it in people's homes is what will truly kickstart the publics interest in consumer VR. PC and poor mobile VR just isn't gonna really do it.

I am super excited to have my PSVR.

A few months ago I was invited to try tech demos in Oculus and Vive. Vive is amazing, I totally believed being inside that world. Being able to move around in that virtual space is breathtaking. However, when I'm playing games, I prefer to be comfortably sitting in my couch. I don't think I would be playing standing up and moving around for long periods of time, specially with all the wires coming from the headset around.

I tried Oculus too, but the games I played weren't good, so I just tried it to see the quality of the screens and the headset in general. If PSVR is mildly better than that, I'm completely sold. Also, the PSVR headset looks much more confortable than the other two.

I just want Sony and the developers to bring big triple A games in this platform. RE7 is a huge step in this direction, so I just can't wait to have my PSVR and to see what the future brings.

I've never been so conflicted on a purchase before. I haven't had the luxury of trying any VR, not even mobile, so I'm going in blind. My dilemma comes from the PS4 Pro. I don't want to buy one but I'm afraid my PSVR experience will be crap in comparison, with the current PS4.

So it's like do I cancel my pre-order and just spend the extra money on a Oculus, since my PC is already good enough to use it. Or save the money and take the chance on the PSVR. With it being so close to launch I feel some excitement, but I won't make my final decision until this Friday.

My hype for PSVR did die a lot when we heard of the PS4k rumors.

But seeing all the unboxing has brought it back. I hope VR games run okay on older PS4 systems.

Non-60fps games are banned.

I'm very excited

Just some points to be cleared :

-can I watch Netflix / Blu-ray on it ?
-are non vr games compatible as a cinema mode ? Play like on tv

When ps4k is hitting I'll put my normal PS4 in bedroom but I have a small 32" there so If i can play non vr games on my bed it would be awesome

I would buy one and be very excited if it wasn't so damn expensive.

I believe bundles and price drops will happen fairly quickly. There's no way units don't sit on shelves at launch price after a while.

I'll bite when the cost isn't inflated from being such new tech.

Keeping my pre-order.

After a game, the camera and the dual wands it's costing almost as much as a Rift, so was wondering if I was just being stupid seeing as my PC is pretty meaty and can handle VR easily.

In the end decided to keep it because, somewhere in me there is still a 90's kid - and if I showed this inner child a slick futuristic looking VR headset with a sony badge on it, he'd be flipping his shit and mowing a summers worth of lawns just to touch the thing.

I owe it to this kid to take a chance on this, he's waited long enough.

So it's clear the image that will be shown on the TV is way superior quality wise to what we will see in the headset, Is there any image with some degrading filters to get us an idea of the image quality? Some people say PS3 like, others say DS like.

This is beautiful lol. Switch 90's for 80's and that's me.

What's amazon's return policy on stuff like this? I might test it out for a few days before returning it.

Not a bad idea. I might try it, and return it if anything. Amazon should give full credit. I returned No Man's Sky after 2 weeks no problem.

Like a DS? Christ. That's some dangerous misinformation.

Even a Google Cardboard is better than a DS screen (in terms of seeing the pixels) on any retina iPhone / Samsung.

Due to the sub-pixel layout on PSVR it actually has less of screen door effect than the rift, so it's quite hard to make out individual pixels. But due to the slightly lower resolution the image is softer than Rift.

It has some visible aliasing, as the PS hardware isn't powerful enough to downsample which is how this is worked around on a PC, but that can be resolved by the PSPro hopefully.

Blu-ray = Yes. (2D only)
Netflix = 99% certain you can.
All non-VR games = Yes.

I should be getting mine any day now from the Taco Bell contest. Now I just need to buy a PS4. Get the new slim model or wait for the Pro version, decisions decisions.

I have to look for a place to try this, and know whether my eyes see something utterly blurry like the Oculus 1 I've seen at the mall or not. (Just have to make sure my body is ready. (e.g. eyes and brain))
