PSVR is out this month... 0.o

Not a bad idea. I might try it, and return it if anything. Amazon should give full credit. I returned No Man's Sky after 2 weeks no problem.

Abusing return policies to "rent" products that you have no intention on actually keeping for free is absolutely a bad idea. It's a dick move that screws the retailer, and screws those that actually want to buy the product. Beyond that, if abused enough, the action can cause the retailer to not be so consumer friendly in the first place - in effect ruining it for everybody that isn't being a dick.

Got to demo it yesterday at EB and it just solidified my decision to keep the preorder. Super comfortable and the immersion was great. Even if the IQ isn't the best you soon forget about it as you're racing down the highway shooting at vans and bikes in The London heist.

What sold me on the immersion was the feeling I had as I opened the passenger door and leaned out. The 3d audio was great. Loved every minute of it. Plus my wife immediately said she can't wait until we get it.

This is the thing for VR, people who haven't tried it are going to be in for such a treat. The biggest surprise for me, and the reason I believe VR will take off - is that when you take the headset off, you feel like you've returned from somewhere.

I heard someone last week describe VR games as somewhere you go, rather than something you do. And they are spot on - it's almost magical.

I-can I watch Netflix / Blu-ray on it ?
-are non vr games compatible as a cinema mode ? Play like on tv

If you're ok with going thirty years back in time when it comes to image quality then you'll be fine.

Although I can't recall ever having met anyone who regularly uses their HMD for this (outside a week's worth of honeymoon excitement). The resolution isn't there yet unfortunately.

The excitement is building. The day approaches. 11 more sleeps.

I've taken the day off. I have my cameras and move controllers set up. I'm ready.

I've never been more excited about a launch product since the N64.

What plans have you made for launch day?
I'm really on the fence about this. I'm buying the pro release day but I'm unsure about psvr. Hmmmm...

Oh man, I forgot this was even coming out. Hope PSVR takes off, but I'm expecting early buzz then apathy, like earlier this year when the big PC VR launches happened.

^^ 100% my experience so far as well. If PSVR is as bad as Gear VR I'll sell it right away. Get mine day 1 and I am pretty excited. But before I spent more money I want to try all demos available.

Pre-ordered ages ago. Never tried VR until today.
Went to buy a new phone and tried Gear VR in the store where I bought my phone..

Damn...hope PSVR is much better. Didn't really like Gear VR. IQ was quite awful.

Gear VR is generations behind PSVR, Oculus, and Vive. I highly recommend you go and try PSVR first before you buy especially if you are worried if its in the same league as Gear

Gamers proving once again that image quality is the most important thing to them about gaming, even beyond brand new, totally unique experiences. Come on guys, I like a nice-looking game as much as anyone, but this is a platform being built from the ground up. Did a lack of resolution or polygons or bad lighting stop you from enjoying games you played on systems past?

VR will get there eventually. It is playing catchup right now. But what's there *is* compelling in spite of resolution issues. That most of you would rather get a Pro is pretty telling. Going for (and championing) the marginal upgrade over something fresh and new. Smh

I can't afford PSVR (or any VR), but I'm super excited that other people are super excited for it. I hope it does well, so that I can afford it sooner rather than much later.

My preorder isn't for release day but is guaranteed before Christmas. This is perfect for me as it gives me time to hear about gamer opinion of it plus I may already have the pro by the time it arrives. If PSVR is underwhelming I can cancel it. Win win.

I'm sorry but this is hyperbole rubbish as far as I'm concerned, I think you're terrifying people that it's going to look awful when I bet most people will actually find it perfectly usable. I've seen Twitch streams in Oculus cinema on the Gear VR. Now that has a blurry screen towards the edges and the non RGB pixel arrangement which the PSVR benefits from in comparison, but at the right screen size it's really not bad at all.

It still can have the "pop" of HD with bold colours (remember these are OLED panels) and while you lose some finer detail it doesn't feel like watching a 480p (or worse!) screen like some would have you believe. If it's done right then image quality should be as clear as it can be on the PSVR screen, considering you're basically reducing a 1080p image into a 720p or less part of the VR screen, so it's effectively supersampled. There are badly made apps for Gear VR (Youtube watched via the Samsung Internet app) which show you video effectively running rendered directly to the native res of the screen and it's a shimmering/aliased mess, but in good apps like Netflix of Oculus Video it's clear and "sharp". Given PSVR has better optics I don't expect to see the extreme blurring you have in Gear VR outside of the centre point, so it should be pretty great playing on a virtual 100 inch screen in PSVR.

Edit: And what Belfast said just above. I'm getting a Pro next year. I will be happy with my base PS4/VR combo, and then when I do get the Pro I can experience all my VR games with better image quality, woohoo.

I really don't understand the people who are cancelling their vr pre orders to get a pro instead.

While the idea of having slightly better performing games is nice, the fact is that vr is a whole new way to play and as such surely you gain more by getting that instead of spending the same money just playing your existing games but a bit better.

If you can only afford one, go for the one that gives you more in my mind.

VR fucks with my mind. Like it gives me false nostalgia for things that I've never done. I was watching an alien themed music video and thought, "this is kinda like that time that I..." no, you fucking idiot. You've never been on a spaceship, that was VR. I sometimes get weird dreams too. I actually fell asleep with it on before and woke up VERY confused.

I use mine like that through Big Screen Beta on Steam. But I'm an admitted weirdo and VR junkie.

the closer it gets to release the more I want one

Sony should make some ads. Doesn't even have to be for TV could be youtube ads

it may be convenient

i bought sony HMZ 1 and 2 back then...1000e ...just to try

My thoughts exactly.....

Going for a ps4pro is like having a iphone 6 and upgrading to the 6s....There's not a whole lot out right now or coming in the foreseeable future in order to warrant it unless you have more than enough cash to spend. I don't doubt that it will be worth it down the line, but i'm not going to spend another $400 just to see extra effects if my tv can't even display it.

Just canceled my amazon preorder. Sony did not convince me enough and I wasn't in the mood the ebay the thing.

Maybe next year.

Really bizarre to see that we're now officially less than two weeks away. I tried PSVR two years ago, and I've been quietly carrying the torch since. Crazy to think that the time has nearly arrived.

My feelings exactly, hype is through the roof! I pre-ordered the launch bundle back in March and have a couple of games pre-ordered as well. I am going in blind on modern VR tech but my last experience with VR was Dactyl Nightmare and also this, I think I'll enjoy what I am about to experience. While I appreciate the criticism/skepticism that some have of PSVR and its potential longevity or support I am sooo looking forward to this next step of video games/entertainment.

Exactly this. While I like nice graphics I grew up playing games on old systems. My first gaming was txt based adventures on a vic 20. Childhood gaming was on a spectrum 48k, hell one of the best family games we had was light cycles which was just lines. Played through old Sierra adventures with their 1 min loading screens between scenes and remember vividly the days when space quest 3 looked cutting edge. I remember the replays on Gran Turismo 1 looking like "real life", being floored at the graphical fidelity of ready to rumble on Dreamcast or gta 3 on PS2. Did we hate those games?? No way!

It's all about the immersion and that is why I can't wait. Vr takes you to another level and I for one would take that over a resolution boost any day.

We must be about the same age, my first computer was a Vic-20 and then a ZX Specrtum.

I have a preorder and two move controllers from the PS3 days. I also bought a camera recently just for PSVR.

The 18 game demo disc boosted my excitement even more because I have no idea what game I want at launch and plan to walk out with just the unit itself on day one.

Around 40?? My parents loved games so I grew up with us all playing as a family. I remember being about 5 and us all gathered around the spectrum playing knightlore and being totally captivated.

Will always remember the day my stepdad came home sporting a spectrum 128k. 128k of pure horsepower with built in tape deck!! Not only was that insane at the time but it meant I gained the rubber keyed spectrum 48k for my room. It was like all my Christmases had come at once :)

I just have to wait on Gamestop's awful shipping times for mine, but I'll play it within a few days of the launch. Pretty excited!

lol at all the "canceled" pre-order posts.

Does anyone know if Amazon will 1hr delivery on the day before :D ...to match the Bestbuy *midnight* release?

Not sure if I'm late to the party, but someone on Reddit spotted a wild VR in store. ..

Cancelled too. Those of you keeping your preorders I'm sure you'll love it. I just don't have the time for my vive let alone another headset. Will definitely jump back in at some point but not right now.

Looking forward to impressions of games though, especially tumble, driveclub and Rez (the latter I'll buy anyway)

All these cancelation posts are disheartening. Oh well. I've always been an avid early adopter so I can't wait to get mine!

Why is it funny that people are canceling? The thread is basically the point of no return incoming, make a decision point. People are just explaining their thought process as to why they're deciding to cancel or go with Pro's instead due to financial restrictions. I really haven't seen any posts that are just like "I cancelled because it's shit, it was all a mistake." All I have seen is pretty solid reasoning.

Knew I was in for psvr day one just for Rez, really looking forward to that experience. I have a feeling the path vr is going to evolve in is going to be a path that won't particularly interest me or a lot of people on gaf, but I'm so curious that I have to give it a shot. These first couple years are gonna be a lot of experimental fun I think, and I think psvr has the best chance at reaching the mainstream for a while at least

"What plans have you made for launch day?"

that is what the thread was about.

but whatever, I can tell which ones who are legitimate (like Mrklaw)....and I'm not trying to disrespect them.

I preordered as soon as the Amazon order page went live (slightly before the 11am start time), and my delivery date shows as the 13th. It feels like it's been a long wait, but we're nearly there.

I finally gave up trying to find a second move controller cheap, and ordered a new one from Amazon, should be here on Monday. I picked up an official charger back in the spring for £3 brand new.

Got a new pair of headphones yesterday. Made sure I've got a spare electricity socket behind my amp, shuffled up the PS4 to make some space for the processing unit.

Battlezone is preordered and set to auto-download. I've started freeing up hard drive space.

I've got the 13th booked off as holiday, and I've put the Friday down as 'working from home'.

TL;DR I AM READY

Can't wait. Demoed it a while back during the Best Buy tour and really dug it. I think it's a good starting point for VR. I want a vive too but at that price point I'm wanting a HW revision and more games

I've got my Amazon pre-order still intact. I also have DriveClub VR and Batman VR lined up. I'll also buy Rez infinite. So I'm all set. Plus there's all the demos that could have some hidden gems.

Seriously though, when has Sony ever given proper support to their new "innovations" peripherals beyond the first six months ?

I know people are anxious for VR, but let's look at their track record for a second.

They released three cameras , on three successive generations of consoles, and they never really released any meaningful games for them. Heck, the PS4 camera has to this day less than 18 games that support it, and most of these have side features and gimmicks, not true support.

The PS Move also only got a handful of games, most of them being alternate control schemes for FPS games that played fine without it. It was such a promising piece of technology that barely got used and has been sitting in a cupboard at home ever since I purchased it (Buying a camera, a controller, and a side controller thingy too, so a sizeable investment for unsupported tech).

Then there's handhelds like PS go and PS Vita, both pretty much dead on arrival in most regards, never really gettng any love or killer app by Sony.

I'm no buisness expert, but common sense and past experience kinda dictates that PS VR will probably get a few games in the first year, then be abandonned like all those glorified tech paperweights Sony keeps producing every generation. Sony does good on their main hardware, but they tend not to care much for their side peripherals and other projects. They feel more like bullet points to be able to say "see, you can have motion controls on sony consoles, too, you can have VR on sony consoles, you can do kinect stuff on Sony consoles".

So feel free to spend 400 bucks on a paperweight, but personally, I'd advice waiting for actual games to be produced before jumping in, or at least go for a PC heaset since they have the advantage of user mods and player made support for games. Relying on Sony and third party to produce the games to justfiy your purchase seems like a huge gamble with the odds not in your favor.

Excuse my ignorance.

So all those other VR headsets launched and I thought the reaction was pretty lukewarm. And surely PSVR is a weaker machine (probably much more so) I had no idea people were so hyped. Has the public opinion changed due to free demos in stores or something? Or is this just the first widely available VR, so it's most people first experience?

When someone (Sony or a "hacker") makes support for PSVR on PC I will buy it.

That's my buy in point as for right now. An HD has to provide a fantastic experience with crisp image quality and QOL features (eye tracking and probably x*1400p min or x*2160p preferably for resolution at the $800 range) or alternatively it has to provide exceptional value. If it worked on PC that would take it into exceptional value range for me.
