PSVR is out this month... 0.o

LMFAO

Seriously this has to be reposted.. The amount of games coming out for this is usually more than you would get for a next gen launch.

It's hilarious to me how this console generation people have been complaining about framerates and finally we have games that have incredibly high framerates people go back to complaining about graphics.

Gamers really don't know what they want.

This. And I agree that was a great post.

I only have Loading Human pre-ordered but I have no idea why because I know almost nothing about the game. I'll cancel the game and just roll with all the demos and vr worlds which comes with the move bundle version.

I'm actually still looking at this game too, I think something like this and/or Robinson (and Batman if you're a Batman fan) is a great choice at launch, an adventure game seems like one of the perfect things to start with just like Rez and at least one of the cockpit games.

Rez and SuperHyperCube seem like gold for VR.

The blurry IQ actually will make me get PSVR sooner rather than later. Might even try to preorder it at a local store. Also cements that choice over the PC headsets.

My reasoning:
It was still so blurry that I now think for proper IQ (like what you're used to looking at a TV) we will probably need at least 4K screens. It will take years till the next VR devices gen will show up (from the big guys). They will also have new important tech like eye tracking etc.
Even the PC headsets do not have that much higher of a resolution so while I haven't tried them I'm sure they can't have eliminated the blurryness altogether.

I don't want to wait years for the next gen of devices running on new platforms and want to pick now something up as cheap and as soon as possible. Would hate to buy any of them e.g. a year before the next VR gen comes out. I also need something reliable to watch VR movies and would be good to have rather sooner than later.

I have a PS4, 2 Move controllers, Sennheiser 558 headphones and the camera, so I can get into non-mobile VR (which is pretty good, especially the portability but has obviously limitations for proper VR plus only mobile games) for just $400 TOTAL. That's the very max I would spend on the current tech level of VR and the uncertainty of future lineups (at least there will always be VR porn/docs etc you can use it for).

I'm excited for it but gonna wait a bit. Preordered the pro though so when that one or two killer games get my interest I'm sure I'll jump in. Really interested to see how the initial reception is and what games will be coming out for it in addition to what we already know.

I am more inclined to cancel my PS4 Pro pre-order and wait for an inevitable decent bundle. It's just a more powerful PS4 after all. PSVR is something completely new and I cannot wait to finally get my hands on it.

I'm looking forward more to upgraded games more than VR, so it's Pro > PSVR for me.

I'm not sure if the expense of VR is worth it. I'm interested, but I'm not sold yet.

Is paranormal activity actually coming out at launch? So far I have batman, festival of blood, and driveclub pre ordered at Amazon but I would like to get a good horror game for this thing

Paranormal Activity won't be a launch title, but Here They Lie seems like a good place to start if you are looking for horror.

I cancelled my pre-order recently, and yet I'm still excited about the launch. Looking forward to reading everyone's impressions.

I may pick one up at some point later if I decide to get a PS4 Pro and some titles that I feel like I absolutely must have are announced for PSVR.

I mean, I'm interested in both and plan to get both, but we have way less information on how and what games are going to be upgraded than we do on the number of games coming out for PSVR. I totally get wanting a PRO, but we haven't really seen much of what it can do yet.

4K VR will be here in Spring of 2017. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is heavily rumored to have a 4K screen. The porn, at least, will look incredible (once it is shot on a 4K VR rig).

That's a long wait; The two weeks remaining is killing me for PSVR.

Tech always improves. If you're waiting on that then more power to you.

I can't wait for PSVR personally.

VR is gonna Bomba

Believe me I know these things

Someone already lined out why PC VR essentially has bombed.

PSVR seems the most plausible consumer success story.

Either way I don't see VR going anywhere : This isnt 3d or motion controls, I truely believe 5-10 years VR will be the future.

If we make it that far.

I will wait for the game's reviews, since that's all it matters. I have already tried PSVR last year and I loved it, but just want to make sure there are actually good games at launch. And I don't think there is need for pre ordering where I live. If there is no stock, then will wait some months, no problem.

I have this pre-ordered but no idea what game I should get. Anything interesting? Hit me with the knowledge guys.

I thought riggs sucked. I personally would just play with the demo and see what tickles your fancy. Robot Golf looks pretty cool, along with that office simulator.

I'm probably going to cancel my preorder because I thought something would wow me before its release and so far nothing tickles my fancy that much to warrant the price tag. Maybe some day down the road, but it just doesn't appeal to me (this obviously won't apply to everyone here).

Possible but that is still mobile VR. It's pretty amazing considering portability etc but it's limited by both games and the display/device tech not being optimized for VR use compared to a dedicated device.

Those who haven't actually tried PSVR aren't really in a place to make negative comments about it. I've demoed PSVR on multiple occasions, from London Heist to Farpoint running on PS4 Pro, and it's incredible.

I'm usually the first to notice flaws in performance and image quality. When the headset is set up properly, it looks fine. At first, I was a bit disappointed when reading the start up text. Once the games actually loaded up, I never thought about it again. The experience trumps early technology limitations.

The hype is so real.

After having Vive sitting in my room for many months I'm not gonna cancel PSVR.

Why.. because
a, for some reason vive is not pickup and play. about half the time it doesn't come on and I need to go through a "wait a minute, I'll figure this out" session of recycle / reset / reboot
b, its a mess of cables and things
c, I want to play games not demos and especially not pay to play early access stuff
d, standing up doesn't fit with my gaming instinct. which is to slouch in the dark room on a comfy couch
e, it isn't like the vive optics and resolution are making up for the above disadvantages..

Whereas I think PSVR actually has some titles I'll want to spend many hours with: driveclub, the tank battle game, etc etc.

After that, well, lets see. I'll sell the Vive anyway. I might end up selling the PSVR too if the initial range of software just goes to a trickle. Which it might, considering how VR isn't really grabbing the way it was projected to.

Boogie2988 - an incredible Twitch and Youtuber - has emphasized this many times : If you're a VR skeptic then just try it, at the very least, and form an opinion from there.

I can see not wanting to buy the first devices or spending $500 to be an early adopter, but I've heard many times over PSVR (and other headsets) need to be tried before judged.

PSVR is my choice based on comfort and best chance for consumer adoption.

That ease of use factor is why I've always been a console gamer : The Overwatch beta was working on my PS4 and X1 within an hour, whereas several hours of tinkering before I could get it on my laptop... windowed, unable to fit to screen.

The sell idea is what keeps me : I have the money to spare so either I'll love it and get $500 worth or I'll sell it on ebay/craigslist and get my money back.
I won't sell it, but I could.

You may want to get that Vive checked out before you sell someone a dud. It isn't supposed to be a crapshoot when you turn it on, it's supposed to just work. When I click SteamVR the headset turns on and the light-houses wake up.

Love to see people stoked. I tried PSVR, though, and was very underwhelmed. The London Heist demo basically soured me on PSVR excitement. Probably going to cancel my preorder.

And how much with the Galaxy S8 retail for? I know people get deals and crap on their phones sometimes, but we all know that's subsidized in the contract somehow.

Well yeah, I guess. But people obviously buy phones for more than just VR. Phone calls, texting, GPS, etc. And every two years I can upgrade for the subsidized price. So I'll get the phone for $300 or $400. Pretty amazing for all of my regular smartphone use and VR.

I tried going to a Best Buy today that was supposed to be demoing PSVR but it was no where to be found. I haven't had any experience with VR except cardboard, so I'm excited to try it out.

This sucks. I want it but I want a pro as well. Going to get the pro first and then PSVR but with the way work is going its going to be a while before I get either. Shitty.

Yeah, after the initial setup, things should just work 99% of the time. I'm leaving 1% for the odd issue that might crop up now and then like a lighthouse spontaneously powering down after quitting a game or some such which is easily fixed by restarting SteamVR. This is with running the beta branch of SteamVR which should be less stable on average than release. The only problem in recent memory that didn't go away with a restart of SteamVR was after the most recent firmware update to the lighthouses. They wouldn't turn off automatically anymore until I did a hard power cycle on them. The first power cycle I've had to do on them since I got the Vive 5 months ago.

I also find the cable complaint kind of amusing since PSVR isn't exactly lacking them. Heck, they're pretty much equal with breakout boxes, power adapters, etc.

Are those light guns an official accessory? I think they were used for the sci-fi shooter demo right?

Yes it's official and it will first be used in the game Farpoint.

I'm looking forward to using that in a slow paced VR online FPS. It sounds like it can be pretty fun playing a FPS in VR. Add online multiplayer and actually being able to aim at each other with your own arms sounds like it could be really fun. I hope Farpoint can be that game but their is no word of it support online right now.

Farpoint looks sweet. I was hoping it would be a launch tittle.

I'm very close to ordering a wheel for drive club VR. But it's got hefty wait time. Not sure if it will arrive before the PSVR. :/

I have a feeling many people will be very disappointed with mediocre tech demos being passed off as retail games but will defend them till they are blue in the face as they can't admit they made a bad purchase OR it is their first time doing VR.

Sincerely,

Someone who used to love VR.

P.S. Rumor on the street is you get a free Trump sticker when you order the Oculus Touch controllers.

Having tried it too, I also feel people will be disappointed by it. Feels so low res and blurry...
I guess Resident Evil will be the first real test for PS VR.

Price is pretty much the biggest problem I can see hindering the PSVR.

Shit too expensive for a lot of people.

It is not only price for me
It is also a matter of experience
Wear visor and headphones that separate you from the real living room while living with two little kids, experience that virtual world with low quality hw backing it (compared to high set pc), inadequate full games being ready for the new "world"

I really think that it is not a mature tech in this very moment

I hope psvr will be successfull so it Can push The VR adoption and maturation

I know what it is supposed to do. But sometimes it doesn't. sometimes after sleep, sometimes after reboot. Mostly it works but it doesn't take many let-downs to feel, well, let-down. When I google the problem I see so many similar reports with various suggestions... into a hell hole of USB drivers, pulling in and out cables, and what-not.

Also now and again it has just mysteriously lost all audio, and another reboot is required.

This was a purpose built windows 10 PC btw, with nothing else on it except for some regular steam games (which have worked ok). I don't really feel its the hardware I think its the software. I think its still quite beta and stability bugs lurk for some configurations or situations.

But they'll buy a pro when they probably have a perfectly good PS4 already and for that 4k tv they don't have yet.

Agree. I'll take any new experience over a slightly better visual experience. Even if some games will look better on a 1080p set via supersampling, the game you're playing will be the same.

So, I'd rather play Driveclub VR than the inevitable Driveclub pro enhanced tv version.

Planning my launch lineup, I had a few questions.

1 - Is Move essential? Do I need one or two? The only games on my list (*) supporting it seem to be Batman and VR Worlds

2 - How finicky is the camera placement? Can it be in front of my TV, or do I need to route it high?

3 - How come nobody is recommending VR Worlds? Is it not very good?

My launch game list

Driveclub
Until Dawn
Rez
VR Worlds
Batman (maybe)
Battlezone (maybe)

Sadly, that Pro-enhanced DriveClub version seems to be not happening.

I have a 4K HDR TV ready, but I'd also rather have new gameplay experiences in VR than have slightly sharper visuals for roughly the same money.

I haven't booked the day off work. Last couple of time's i have with PS4 AND PS3 it's always turned up late afternoon.

But anyhow, i'm all set, gonna give the demo's a whirl and just play about with it first night. Then on the weekend i'll nip into town and pick rigs up probably and maybe something else.

To be fair if you watched DF's latest video on the PS4 pro you would see that they mention owning a Pro on even a standard 1080p set will still be very beneficial. The upacaling and sampling tech will make your pro patched 1080p games look better on your 1080p tv.

Okay, thought I read a rumour about Driveclub pro, but the internet is full of rumours offcourse. Regarding you decision, I don't even own a 4K set, so great that you did decide for PSVR afterall. If I would own a 4K set, thb here, I would be more difficult to decide, but in the end I think new experiences will last longer than better graphics.

If they add a PSVR category to PlayStation plus, and it gets an interesting game or two a month, it'll really add a lot to the appeal of it.

Personally I'm probably going to wait until Ace Combat comes out.

Also hopefully DREAMS VR gets made. Sculpting environments in VR, then walking around them sounds like a lot of fun to me.
