PSVR is out this month... 0.o

I have the pre-order in Amazon but I am not sure if I will keep it. Thinking Sony will treat this as a gimmick.

Im still deciding what to do with my preorder as well.

With Pro coming over a month later i kinda don't want to bother with PSVR until I can get the better experience but i don't want my headset to just sit around for a month. But I don't want to risk not getting one later if theyre hard to find for the rest of the year.

If anyone in ATL area is looking to get one this month and doesn't have a preorder, PM me and I'll let you know what I end up doing. If I'm not gonna keep it then I can sell it to a local GAFer at cost.

I can't see it's even possible to think that considering the effort Sony had put into the device and the amazing launch line up..,

Out of all the VR publishers/manufacturers(Oculus, HTC Vive, etc) Sony so far has the most fleshed out software support coming out for VR. And this thing is not even fully launched yet. If they do well, I highly doubt they'll treat this as a "gimmick" since so far they have not done so based on the software support alone imo.

Been going back and forth but I think I'll stick with my preorder. Just hoping that Star Trek: Bridge Crew isn't crap, but I'm still in it for Rez, Driveclub, etc.

Apparently Walmart in the US has started to receive stock.

I know I have been vocal that's for sure, but with everything there are two view points. I just have been overly confident with mine. We will see in a few weeks !

Yeah, but you're doing that, and then it's 'I'm only playing devil's advocate here!' but saying the same negative shit as your actual opinion. It's not difficult to doubt your sincerity.

crysis 3 had a 3d mode on ps3. worked well with my hmz-t1. kinda wish there was a remake for ps4 to work with vr.

I'll make a prediction.

A lot of cancelations. Then when impressions come in from the mainstream (playing it at their enthusiast gamer-friend's house) about how fuck awesome it is, and how Jimmy Fallon can't stop talking about it, and then all the ads and game announcements and threads for them...these same cancellations will be chomping at the bit to get in on the action.

Also, the Pro will be seen as mostly a waste of everyone's time.

Nice, maybe I shouldn't cancel my 2nd pre-order, just to scalp them non-believers muahahaha!!1

I see the base one is still out of stock, but wondering if they ever got the full bundle sku at Wallmart to begin with? Don't see the move/camera bundle anywhere on the site...
Good sign though if Walmart starts stocking up as well

Anyone else's head huge? Don't think this will fit my head lol.
LOL yes, I have a ginormous round head and luckily it fit perfectly on my head when I tried at Best Buy couple of times. Phewww...

Here's a FAQ:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/10/03/playstation-vr-the-ultimate-faq/

Looks like the box has 4K pass through but not HDR.

So umm, cable swapping is required if you have a HDR TV and want HDR Goodness.

Or until Sony releases a new box with HDR pass through I guess.
Is that for only veiwing HDR content or does it relate to HDR VR games as well? Do we even have any HDR VR games in development even atm?
Full quote:
Q: Does the Processor Unit support 4K and HDR pass through?
The PS VR Processor Unit (PU) supports video pass through so that you can enjoy regular non-VR content on your TV when you have the PS4 connected to the TV via the PU and the PU is connected to power via the AC adapter and the PS VR headset is not in use. This pass through support works for regular 1080p signals and also supports 2160p (UHD or ‘4K’) content in YUV 420 color format at up to 60 Hz from a PlayStation Pro.

However, HDR signals are not supported for pass through by the PU. This applies to both 1080p and 2160p HDR. If you have a HDR capable TV and want to view PS4 content in HDR, it is necessary to cable the PS4 directly to the TV.

I'm going to guess the VR unit isn't HDR. The lack of pass through will require you to unhook your PSVR every time you want to take advantage of any HDR content. Games, movies, anything.

^^Right, that makes sense since the VR display is not HDR capable/enabled.
Silly inconvenience oversight but definitely not a deal breaker for me.

Q: I’m nearsighted, so can I use PS VR without my glasses?
This depends on the prescription of your glasses. The focal distance of the images presented by PS VR is at a distance of about 8 feet, so if you require glasses while driving or seeing your TV, you will most likely need to wear your glasses to see PS VR images clearly. However, some very wide or unusually shaped glasses may not fit.

Aha! So good to finally know this. For some reason Gear VR is fine for me but I'm short sighted and anything more than about a foot or so away starts getting blurry. When I tried Driveclub VR on Sunday I thought I'd be a smart arse and try it without my glasses. Now I know why it was a bit blurrier than I expected! A very useful Q+A.

Also everyone with fancy surround sound headsets should note what it says, SWITCH OFF VIRTUAL SURROUND MODES if plugging into PSVR, it will mess up with the binaural audio (I've noticed this with ASMR videos on my phone if you use any fancy audio enhancement settings gs it tends to mess up the effect).

It will sell well but it's going to be like the move and kinect, I hope I am wrong but i trust my gut feeling we need another decade.

I was very bearish on Move and Kinect, so I get it. But both those technologies took games and provided a WORSE (but sometimes fun) way to interact with them. That was always their issue. They were a solution looking for problems, and found none that they adequately fixed better than proven control technology.

VR is a bit different in that it's a better way to interact with 3D renderings. It opens up entirely new methods for interacting and playing in 3D worlds that currently are not possible. It's technology that's bringing something new and better that can't better be done on a flat screen.

It might fall flat too, but at least there is a justification for pushing it. It will allow growth into places that simply are not possible on stander gaming displays.

Have you seen how far it extends? It could fit a watermelon!

Yeah you'd have to have some sort of medical issue for this to be an issue. Thing is super damn comfy (on my small head). Feels premium as fuck on your head. Makes a mockery of the design of ALL the other headsets with their straps and velcro and ski mask smashed into your face aesthetic. Sony hit it out the park on that front. Never see the people dismissing PSVR but bigging up PC VR mention how catastrophically bad their headsets are for the average fickle and vain consumer. PSVR is as classy as it's going to get until true wireless VR becomes a thing.

Yeah, it's incredibly comfy. And I've honestly noticed less light bleed from it than the Rift CV1 (although not the Vive) so it's not like that is some huge drawback in it not fitting to your face.

What are the implications of the potential success of VR and Let's Players?

People getting sick? Sometimes watching someone play VR games can be nauseating depending on the game and how much movement is brought on by the player since the camera is 1:1 with the players head.

From what I remember about my play test with the PSVR is I didn't give the headset a single thought. You 100% completely forget you have it on, light, comfy and perfect and this is coming from someone who wears glasses.

Note on amazon.co.uk. Doesn't sound like you'll get your set day 1 if you pre-order now.

At least on Amazon France is still day 1. Asked them about the guarantee the shipment on day 1 and got the confirmation pretty quickly.

You can still pre-order on the site BTW.

VR games have to be designed for streaming to be worth it. Games like Job Simulator allow you to position virtual cameras from within VR. The viewpoint of those cameras is what is streamed instead of the shaky first person viewpoint. Others have fixed predefined viewports independent of head movement.

Lol, my 2nd pre-order was on amazon.fr mere seconds after it went live and it says to this day, that my PSVR will go out on November 2nd.

Was debating whether I should keep my pre-order intact, but fuck it. Just ordered Eve and VR Worlds to come with my headset and camera on launch!

Maybe due to cancelations? I've also pre-ordered pretty quickly as soon as it opened and managed to get day 1. However last week I decided to cancel since I was not that hyped anymore.

And yesterday I could test on my own, played London heist and it blew my mind instantly. As soon as I got back home pre-ordered again with day 1. Sent the message today to Amazon to confirm the delivery date and they were pretty clear it was day 1. I hope they will not change anyway lol.

Ahh I really wonder if the social screen function of PSVR can be streamed rather than the headset view. Unless there's some technical reason then I don't see why not. Unlikely many games would allow you to do this but if it could be done then specific games could really make cool use of it. Stream a different view than the player sees, wonder what kinds of games could make good use of this?

I think there's a technical roadblock for that though. Since image leaves PS4 to go to PU, then to headset/tv.

Edit: Going by the Q&As, it is the social screen that is shared when you stream. Or something along those lines.

Where is that mate. I thought all the first waves had gone.

*********** have PSVR + 1 game bundles for launch day. I tweeted them to confirm and they said yep still available for day 1. I was curious as my boss at work is jumping in and was asking about availability and Game (spit) midnight launches

Edit: Didn't know they were banned, sorry
