Psychonauts, did you buy it?

Bought the Xbox version for $30 and ended up loving it. At first I wasn't too keen on the platforming until I realized it was an adventure game disguised as a platformer. The Milkman Conspiracy and Velveltopia are some of the best and most beautiful levels ever made.

i got the PC version but didnt finish, i lost my save game. I cant believe how ugly the PS2/Xbox versions are compared to the PC version, even on my modest system.

I bought the Xbox version when it was still relatively new (since it was $50) and enjoyed it a lot. I think it was the most fun I had with a platformer since Super Mario 64.

I was there, on the first day, with the Xbox release

I'm looking at the version on Steam...but I need a bigger harddrive. 320GB and I'm already running out of space

Bought the Xbox version day 1, finished it, loved it.

Yes. The choice was up to THQ. But this was on the Doublefine blog. It was a choice they've made. People making multiple purchases here more than make up for my decision.
Majesco was the publisher.

Ditto over here. Ratchet & Clank 2 came close, but Psychonauts was definitely the best platformer I've played since SM64.

Your decision to pass on the game based on your shallow preconceptions will only deprive you of a great experience. And I don't mind that, but I don't like it when people take pride in their own ignorance.

What makes you think I won't play it because of THAT? I just said I won't play it, ever. Just like I won't play Rogue Galaxy or Dragon Quest VIII or Zelda Wind Waker. I don't feel like it, I got other stuff to do/play.

I got the PS2 version. A sloppy port but it didn't ruin the experience for me. The thing that kept me going was that all minds were totally different with each having unique gameplay. I especially liked
the milkman part. His mind was so confusing yet so awesome.

It was a shame they just ported this to the PS2 in such a sloppy fashion. It was completely Microsoft's fault for dropping a near-finished game. I'm not against a PS2 version of the game, but something from the ground up on Sony's platform could have served the game well.

so if microsoft hadn't dropped it, the ps2 version would have been better?

It would have been an Xbox exclusive.

What I said was that the PS2 could have handled its own game like Psychonauts given the right amount of care. Doublefine was basically forced to rush a port.

Bought it on PS2 and couldn't stand the load times, so I returned it. Then I bought it for PC via Steam and enjoyed it in high-resolution, no-load-time bliss.

The rushed PS2 port was still better than 99% of games last generation.

Didn't buy it - had never, in fact, heard of it until I read about it on GAF. I guess that makes me part of the travesty of inattention regarding this game, and now there's far, far too much on my plate to make checking it out a priority. I'll see what the developer does next / now, and it might trigger something.

Yes, after hearing all the GAF raves. Boring game. Bad advice from GAF. Bad GAF. No cookie for you.

Some are saying Psychonauts is the best platformer since SM64? Watcha drinkin' and smokin' and sniffin'? Or is it they don't play many platformers? They forgot about Rayman 2?

The Doublefine blog talked about it being released on all systems.
Then they proceeded to mock the GameCube as not being part of "all systems."
That pissed me off.
I refuse to purchase the game.
DF knew DAMN well their sales were going to be crap. The last thing they should have been doing is insulting a fanbase that would have embraced it far more than anyone else would have.

Name one Gamecube 3rd party game release that had better sales over the PS2 or Xbox?
Soul Calibur 2? That game outsold the others in it's first month but dropped off fast & was outsold by the other versions if I rememeber.

Double Fine didn't do the PS2 port, Budcat Creations (who also did the Wii version of Medal of Honor: Vanguard) did the PS2 version.

FTWer, the GameCube version did end up in first place overall, the PS2 version was a close second though. As for other games, several Sega games did best on the GameCube (mainly the Sonic games, Sega Sports games sold like crap).

Is this a joke? :lol

I recently bought it for PC and used the 360 gamepad on it as well. I finished it probably 3 or 4 months ago. I thought it was excellent for a straight-forward platformer. I thought the gameplay was perfect, and almost every level was masterpiece. It didn't really being anything new to the table, but it executed it so well and had an interesting enough story that it felt fresh. The story was great too. I was actually upset when Lily got kidnapped. Not a whole lot of games can make you attached to a character like that, but Psychonauts did. I also enjoyed the humor. The graphics on PC were also very nice. I was able to run the game at max settings and I thought it looked just as good as an Xbox 360 launch game. All in all, I would say it was one of the better games to come out last gen, but there were a lot of great games.

No because I never heard of it, and never really saw it in stores until I started hanging out around gaming sites again. I might pick up a copy now since its backwards compatible with the 360.

No need to port it since it's already compatible with the 360, plus it's upscaled.
There's some truth there, but I'm really *really* looking for an improved frame rate and an end to the incessant tearing. A recompile and a re-release would do it. As would a XBLA version, or if they were to release a XBLA version that utilized the original DVD for textures and other assets.

Yup, i got the Xbox version when it came out. I loved the game, great writing & characters. Plus the levels were real creative

One of the best from last gen

Well, you "rememeber" wrong... :D
On SCII sales: GCN = PS2 > XBX (more or less)

i played the demo

Yeah, that demo really doesn't really give you any idea how the rest of the game plays out. Outside of the meat circus, Oleander's mind was the only straight up platforming level, all the others were very different with some having more of a Lucasarts adventure game feel (the Milkman Conspiracy and Napoleon come immediately to mind...no pun intended). Basing impressions of Psychonauts from just the Coach Oleander level is...well...wrong.

I'm replaying the game (again) right now. Anybody ever sit through an entire story from Vernon? They are pretty interesting. Same with the messages posted on the bulletin boards (one in the parking lot, one in the boating area).

I will echo the fact that the Meat Circus level is brutal, I died so many times because the camera messed up or Raz didn't double jump when I wanted him too. Still a decent level though.

Wait. Isn't Vernon the kid that tells the story about the longest walk? I don't think there is an ending. It just loops over and over with random phrases.....just like Boyd when he's rambling outside the assylum gates.

I haven't bought it for either the PS2 or the Xbox or the PC, mainly because the art style doesn't appeal to me at all.

the level of attention in this game is amazing, yes i went all around camp and you can see interesting details like the message board and talking with some of the camp people

Got myself unstuck buy using the arrow cheat so I could get the cobweb duster. Just went into the Running from the Bull level. I really like how each level feels insanely different from the previous.

I bought the Xbox version. I really loved it. The only parts parts I really didn't like were
the milkman and the stage with the bull
simply because it felt like I was walking in circles figuring out what to do.

This game is a fantastic flawless platforming text adventure mish mash that everyone should have played through by now... that is until you get the final stage, most specifically the portion of the meat circus where you must use raz' acrobatic skills to jump after his evil dream dad in a circus tent while the water level below is constantly rising up beneath you. That one level pretty much took the few tiny flaws with the games camera/control scheme and built itself around the idea that you had to fight with them constantly. It's so frustratingly designed in fact that it made me forget how much fun I'd had up that that point until I'd completed it. It's enough of a piss off actually that were I a critic at gamespot or some shit I'd lower the score atleast 1.5 points on a 10 point scale . Relegating the game to an unfortunate 8/10, it's nice to think of the 10/10 portion of the game though. I actually would love a sequel but I know that's about as likely as seeing pigs fly over mars.
