Publix Deli has the best subs

Get off GAF on your honeymoon. Just messing with you. When I am in Florida I will always go to publix in the morning and grab a few subs, a gallon of tea, a side of slaw, a few bags of chips and some banana pudding for the beach. Always great to throw the football or frisbee around, go for a swim, and then open up the cooler to some Publix subs. A huge but satisfying meal for a couple friends. Do that in the morning grill out something for dinner and then a cigar on the beach at the end of the day....why isn't it summer anymore?

The misses work schedule makes her wake up at 4am, mine us a late 2nd shift, so even in our best efforts there is about 3 hours where she has to be in bed, and I can't go to sleep, only reason I'd ever get on gag right now.

This is my first time in Florida this late in the year, usually I come late spring/early summer. Weather wasn't too bad today, hoping the rest of the week stays as nice

I don't have a Publix in my state, but a Ralph's near my work has a Boar's Head deli inside it and their Jerk Turkey Sub is fucking GOD TIER. Gotta get it grilled on the panini grill for max awesomeness.

The best sub I've ever had is when I went to MLG raleigh and ate Jimmy Johns. Ordered the italian one 4 times in two days. Not sure if I should be ashamed of this or not

Wegmans will always be better.

These are the best subs. This summer I was back in Upstate NY and I stuffed three Danny's into my already-tight luggage because there's nothing even close on the west coast. They're so good I practically traveled cross-country for them.

The one time I had a publix sub it made me sick, so I'm a bit bitter.

I just never got pub subs.... They're ok, they use high quality meat and all, but I always thought they were expensive for what you got.

Just tried one and this is pretty much my opinion.

It was indeed very good meat, and some fresh bread, but it was 7.50 for a footlong sandwich. For that price, I would probably just go to Firehouse.

i had a buffalo chicken one earlier today and it was amazing. it was expensive for what it was but outside of those subway monthly deals, it's as cheap as they get around here.

still can't beat firehouse sweet n spicy meatball though..

Had a buffalo chicken tender sub today before hitting up siesta key, not bad guys, not bad at all

If you all are looking for some unique evening places in Sarasota try out The Cock and Bull on Cattleman road. Craft beer bar with 30 varieties on tap and hundreds in the coolers. I go there a couple times a week. Fantastic service and the owners Howie and Dawn are usually out hanging with regulars and live giving recommendations. Howie especially knows his beers, man is a genius.

I feel ya OP. I only get to a Publix once a year when I'm on vacation in Florida and when I'm there I always make sure to get a Cuban. Soooo damn good.

anyone saying subway etc is lying; OP is truth.

i love publix - worked there as a kid, and after hurricane andrew when everything else down south was getting looted? they wisely brought in a few employees to hand out bread/water and stuff that was gonna go bad anyway to help out the community. it was a brilliant PR move.

i wish i could patronize them more these days, but where i moved, winn-dixie and wal-mart are closer/cheaper at the moment

I have only been in Florida once in my life when I was 10, but I did try those glorious Publix Deli Subs and I must agree. Verily so.

People keep sleeping on grocery deli food. She is good and cheap.

Uhhh...no, not at any store I have shopped that isn't Walmart.

Publix subs are my favorite subs and the also make my favorite birthday cakes, but as far as doing my shopping there............. no way in hell am I paying those ridiculous prices for stuff I can buy pretty much anywhere else cheaper. I might go in just to pick the ad items up, but they have way too high of a mark up on almost everything that isn't on sale.

This thread is so full of truth it hurts. Born and raised in Florida, worked at Publix for my first part-time job and used to eat a whole Boar's Head Ultimate with extra swiss every shift. Easily better than any JJ, Firehouse, or Subway sub I've ever tried, and better than most deli sandwiches in my limited experience.

Now that I live in Japan, Publix subs are easily in the top 5 things I crave (the others being turkey, Mexican food, good pizza, and beer). Every year when I go home for Christmas I make sure to stop by a Publix before getting home to pick up a sub.

Publix brand sweet tea and eggnog are also pretty awesome. Apparently they are also one of the best companies to work for in the US.

So since this is a Florida collective thread, figured maybe I can get some recommendations. Headed to Tampa tomorrow for the Yuengling brewery and the aquarium, looking for other things to do plus recommendations for good non national chain places to eat. I asked a local who had started up a conversation...the suggestions? Carrabas and sopranos pizza (sopranos was horrible).

Pubs, local business, unique..that's what we are looking for.
