I read about this on Blake Smith from the Monster Talk podcast's Twitter Feed and am not ashamed to say that it gladdened me a bit.

Not only did she cause immense emotional and psychological harm to vulnerable people, her hucksterism helped turn millions of people further away from a science-based worldview.


All our times will come some day, we needn't shed any tears for her with all the pain she's caused.

I went to a psychic when I was 20/21 and paid $250 for his services...that's 7-8 years ago... Nothing he told me came true. I had forgotten about my experience until shortly after the US economy collapse in 2008 or so and realized his shop was no longer there (at Pacific Mall, Toronto). My guess is he probably gave financial "predictions" too.

Never heard of her. How did she become so well known, did she ever get anything right?

I think she got her start a while ago and I feel like people were more gullible and more likely to believe stupid shit like psychic powers and talking to dead people. Montel Williams also had her on his show regularly. She got a few things right every so often and relied on confirmation bias of her believers to keep herself employed. She would make hundreds of predictions and as long as one or two came true she could claim victory because people would ignore the fact that she was wrong 99% of the time.
