Pretty much. Quakecon got me in the mood for more Quake Live and quite frankly it still takes a big steaming dump on pretty much everything else out there.

Edit: Too bad that the ad revenue isn't what they expected.
From the time I was accepted into beta back in January to this day I have not seen a single add on the site (just empty banners).
I hope subscription works out for them (I'd much rather they charge a little than shut the whole thing down).

I've seen some shoe ads in games.

I saw some this past Friday which I think was the first time I've seen them. They are probably having trouble selling them because the player count is not that high, unless I'm missing something. When I played on friday there were only 4 populated servers to pick from in FFA which was fairly depressing. I thought with Quakecon going there would a lot of people on ... or perhaps they were running special Quakecon only servers that weren't visible to anyone not at Quakecon?

Qcon needed a unique server so that the game would run in lan mode for tournaments.

Also the players in BYOC were able to play mac/linux version which isn't live yet.

I am pretty sure the servers only display based on your region. I am sure you guys in the US aren't seeing all the Toronto servers I am.

Also, on the servers I have been playing lately they have District 9 ad's.

Yup. Servers are region based. Joined up with somebody on my friends list awhile back and was surprised at my terrible ping. Come to find out...the server was in poland. Explains why it wasn't on my server list.

The Mac support is not woring for me. I know Firefox is not supported yet but even with Safari I get the promtp that my browser is not supported...

So all of a sudden I've been put in a new tier again and all of a sudden I am getting completely owned again. It's like everyone in this new tier has absolutely perfect per pixel control of their characters. No movement is wasted. It's a beautiful thing to watch, but it sucks when such a person has you in the crosshairs of their weapon of choice. I'm seeing spectacular jump combinations unfold into impossibly accurate shots. I don't have the time to get that good:lol

Oh well. Cry more, rite?

I do love this game, though!

Was coming here to bitch about this. I haven't been able to get a good game for a couple weeks now. I'm wondering if it's because there's not enough players so they can't make more levels of skill. If I downskill a Free for All game, I have a win percentage of about 20%. Matched skill drops it to about 10%. If I upskill I'm lucky to make the top 10. Been trying to play CTF lately, if I can find a decently populated game, but it seems even worse than the FFA stuff. Usually on matched games, I'll end up with like 10 kills to 30 deaths while some guy who rail-gunned the whole level has like 50 kills and 6 deaths. They're so good it's sickening. Like this guy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy0Y9FBGbus

Or I'll run into Rocket King who can jump into a firefight with 5 enemies and win because of perfect jumping and rocket placement each and every time.

There doesn't seem to be any "middle ground" for skill level. Either get a game where I have a 15% - 20% chance to win or get a game where everyone is super good and I can't even touch them. Going to go try again...and probably rage quit for the night.

Ive installed or downloaded or whatever this thing did a while ago but I have yet to actually play. Can you manually edit the config files for this? Im sure my old settings are somewhere on some backup dvd in my house. Id want my mouse sensitivity exact, and also I played with a modified FOV as well (shit who didnt) is all of that still accessible in QL?

I signed up last night. I was more UT kid back in the day and only ever played small bouts of Q3 at lans.

Had 3 games, managed to get over the inital shock of how fast the game is (it's been a while since I've played a fast FPS deatmatch) and started having fun on my 3rd game and came 8 out of 16 or something.

Anybody play the 'Haunted' game type yet? Fucking awesome, hahah.

Force model - Bones
Rocket jump physics are insane

All default, hahah.
You get an achievement also.

This is the first ad I've seen at the site that wasn't an ID game.

How many here are actively playing this I wonder? If anyone feels like playing a friendly match, then maybe we could add each other and stuff. My nickname is "naq", so feel free to add me. :)

Pretty amazing they managed to get Quake into a browser. Just played 3 hours straight. I had a deja vu from friggin 10 years ago. Awesome game, but the art feels so so dated. (Unlike games with more neutral art styles, like counterstrike.) I hope it gets a following, but I'm not sure. Anyways, awesome job.

Quake Live FINALLY hit mac. Hell yes. I'm all over this.

lol I thought the open beta was going to be this upcoming February until i read the wiki...should probably take that out of the title >.>

Web Changes
- New Home Welcome Page - The site now has a new Welcome Page on the home, and the ability to specify which 'Home' section you default to upon logging in.
- New Registration Process - The account registration process has been overhauled and is now much more streamlined than the previous process.

Game Changes
- Added HitCylinders - A cylindrical collision box is now used for weapon hit detection. The previous axis aligned cuboid hitbox is still used for player movement collision.
- Fixed Extrapolation Issues - Improvements to client prediction of enemy models to more accurately draw the location of your enemies' models.
- Changed Server Framerate - Servers now run at an increased framerate (sv_fps 40) for a smoother play experience. No adjustments need to be made by the player to take advantage of the new server framerate.
- Fixed Post Processing Issue - Fragment program optimizations, may result in slightly improved framerates.
- Changed Rocket Splash near Edges - We have altered how splash damage is calculated when rockets explode on steps, stairs and ledges.
- Changed Lightninggun Damage - The lightninggun now deals 7 damage per cell (no damage falloff).
- Fixed Projectiles through Angled Walls - Fixed projectiles going through walls in certain instances (popular examples: angled walls on t4 & t9)
- Fixed Scoreboard Ping Calculation - Addressed an issue that caused the players ping on the scoreboard to be incorrectly inflated.
- Added cg_impactSparks <0|1> (Default: 0)

- Fixed cl_mouseAccel issue - Setting cl_mouseAccelOffset 0 was causing a divide by zero error that would cause you to lose your mouselook.
- Fixed Lightninggun Impact Errors - The lightninggun impacts for other players were often not drawn, or when drawn, positioned incorrectly.
- Fixed sv_floodprotect - Floodprotect code utilized by drop cmds was flawed, making it possible for 'next command time' to be prolonged.
- Changed the default cg_crosshairHitStyle from 0 to 2 - By default, the crosshair will now blink red when you hit an enemy. The blink color is controlled by the cg_crosshairHitColor cvar.
- Added Sorlag Player models Shader Definition - Added the missing Sorlag shader definition to address picmipping issues.
- Removed snaps cmd - As noted above, the clientside setting of a snaps cvar is no longer necessary. Clients automatically run at the appropriate rate regardless of the server's framerate settings.

New Private Server Features
- Added kickban - command is now available to server owners and server ops
- Added banlist - command is now available to server owners and server ops
- Added unban - command is now available to server owners and server ops
- Added stopserver - command is now available to server owners
- Added opsay - command is now available to server owners and server ops
- Added Admin PassVote - Server owners and server ops may vote on their own callvote to instantly pass the vote. This allows owners and ops to force map switches.

that's most of the changelog from the latest and best update that's ever happened to quakelive

feels like quake 3 osp on lan now which was the best version of quake 3 ever for most people

no more ranged LG damage and most importantly of all fixed hitboxes! no more noobs hitting 60% rail, oh how i've been laughing for the last hour as supposed good players hit nothing at all compared to before, welcome to the real quake

Quake 4 hitboxes :D

Now that I have a non gibbled ISP in relation to my closest servers I may play more. There was only an open insta game just now though.

Just discovered this game and it's... it's incredible... I sucked back in the day and I suck now, but man is it fun... Can't believe it took me this long to find...

This seems like an ok active player count

Silent Night
Awarded to any player who completes a match on "Silent Night" over the winter holiday.

* Date awarded: 12/25/2009
* 1 friend (33% of total) has earned this award
* 16225 players (1% of total) have earned this award

The new map was a little big I found

I LOVE q3a.

I was waiting for the Mac client, then it was intel only. Not real surprising; it was one of the main reasons I built a new PC. Played on my work laptop a few times, but I don't like gaming on the work PC.

Add me GAF. My QL name is "naib". I'll likely play this as much or more than TF2.
