Quake vs Quake 2

Just recently installed Q2 again and it's just so boring. The enemies, level design, environments. It really felt like a step backwards when it comes down to atmosphere and level design.

Also the enemies and old castle like feel of the first was legit scary. I never felt that way in Q2. Just run and shoot cyborgs and look at the computer log.

Give me more Q1 stuff please ID. :(
 
The answer is Quake...666%

Quake was so tense, atmospheric and smart all at once. The level design was great, the music and sound effects incredible, just a complete package.

I still enjoyed Quake II as well to a degree but was disappointed by the level design, general art direction and lack of well...evil vibe. I don't care for the generic enemies and look of the levels at all.
 
Quake 1, quakeworld version no doubt

If you remember that pre-Quakeworld, there wasn't even any client prediction for client side WASD movement (meaning if you had a 300ms ping on head to head dialup, you moved e.g. forward only 300ms after you pressed the forward button) then obviously it's a given we're comparing to Quakeworld here, haha
