Quantic Dream's new tech 'KARA' Revealed

The guy seemed like some low level worker. He just had to ask basic questions.

Even an individual in such a low level position would clearly recognize the magnitude of what had happened. An AI that became self aware, and he just sends it on out to be sold with the others? Come on.

I really dig the concept here and am looking forward to what they do with it, but I just feel that this was pretty poor writing. However, it is a tech demo, so I am not going to make a big deal out of it.

One thing here. If you were the creator of such humanoid robots for consumers and one out of the blue displayed such emotion and self awareness, would it not be unprecedented enough that you would pull it aside for analysis, rather than just roll it down the production line with the other models that are going to the market? Or worse yet, destroy it like he was going to do at first? I know it is not a game yet, but I am just saying. Did not make much sense.

It looks to me like guy is just employed there to check if androids are ok. These androids are probably for rich people. He might be just regular employee deciding to spare her. He even says "I don't want any trouble". if you were the boss would you give a shit?

Running on PS3? Why create an engine for PS3 now when next-gen is right around the corner, especially when you're Quantic Dream...?

Smokescreen.

PS4 launch game. NeoGAF meltdown when it revolutionizes gaming and is the biggest step towards mature storytelling the medium has ever seen.

Because Sony is aiming for 3D stacked chips and really powerful hardware for PS4. Don't expect it before 2014.

and of course, they will support PS3 even after PS4 is out

Dude gets paid whether he reports the thing or not. He doesn't give a shit.

Also, it's a tech demo

the VA for kara was great. almost as good as the VA for the lady in the "heavy rain" short--that performance still totally blows my mind with how natural it sounds, and the way it shifts so smoothly from nostalgia to menace.

I watched that earlier, and despite it having aged pretty badly, the nuances are still great

I was hoping for a better twist. Pretty basic "OMG I'm robot with feelings" material. Why wouldn't the guy just report to his bosses that he has a special model and store her for research instead of killing her or sending her off being the only two choices?

You have to play the game to find out.

You are obviously intrigued at the mysteries present in this video.

99% chance that it's just updating from the tech and tools they used with Heavy Rain, completely normal in game development. I'm sure some parts are new, but it's unlikely that everything is from scratch.

Either way, it would be an unprecedented discovery. His boss probably would have thanked him for bringing it to his attention, yet would kill him if he knew he let it go to the market with the others. Anyway, it is not even a game yet, so it does not matter. It is just something I noticed.

I think a good twist would have been if the person on the other end was also a robot and the whole attempt to destroy her was just a ruse to "educate" her on how cruel human beings can be towards artificial intelligence.

The Eurogamer article stated they rebuilt everything from scratch and the tech demo is year old while also missing 50% of the engines features.

It would take a pretty stupid employee to ignore such a thing, lol. Anyway, I said I realized it was a tech demo and am not worried about it. It was just just something I noticed and thought it was rather weak. Still very much looking forward to what ultimately comes of this, though.

The "individual" is the assembly robot, and the threat of disassembling is probably part of the test.

yeah you are the only one that noticed it..... It's just a tech demo. Has nothing to do with the game

Yeah, I believe I said that I knew it was a tech demo at least twice already. I was just making discussion about the way it was presented, but said that it did not bother me because I knew it was not a game yet.

I now need to find that Japanese song... Can someone in here help with that? I was floored with the VA in the multi lingual test. The guy could have eased a bit on the "baby". It would make for a cool contrast to have the human behave super professional and clinical and the android in an high emotional state. I hope this is QD new game.

it's like the most widely used japanese song ever, tv shows and movies always use it as a signifier for 'japan'

I would say that letting her go is the only option he has given his sympathetic reaction.

Option 1: Report to managers- Robot fate uncertain.
Option 2: Steal robot- Workers fate uncertain. Robots fate dependent on Workers fate.
Option 3: Destroy robot- Robot terminated contrary to workers sympathy.
Option 4: Ignore anomaly- Worker fate continues. Robot fate continues. World fate uncertain.

When you put it that way, it actually makes perfect sense. I guess I was just going off what my initial reaction would be had I come across such an incredible discovery. I would have considered it unprecedented and would want it to be studied. But as you mentioned, the worker realized the uncertainty of what would happen and let her go out of sympathy. Good call.

fail x 3 my ignorant friend.

You basically said that you need good story to experience emotions, and mentioned clouds, rains, lakes and other nonsense.

I replied that you comments makes no sense because even a picture can provoke emotions. So good story is not necessary. It is a plus of course. Especially in VGames. If you can provoke various emotions by putting players in interesting situations, that's win to me.
And I repeat Cage always talks about emotions, not story. So he delivers.
