Question about PAL PS2 game cases

I recently imported a couple of PS2 games from the UK and what I'm wondering is:

Why are some cases blue, and others black? For example my Resident Evil Outbreak case is black, but File 2 and Survivor 2 are blue. Maybe this Ebay seller gave me a non-official case for Outbreak?

Also, are there memory card holders in PAL game cases? I don't have my File 2 and Survivor 2 cases on hand (they're at my new house, I'm in my old one where my Outbreak was shipped), but I can't remember them having any.

Thanks.

The old PAL games haves a black case, the new PAL games haves a blue case. They change the case color like 2 or 3 years ago I think.

My Resident Evil Outbreak case is blue.

In the 3 PS2 games I own (WOW) they are all purple and have a memory card holder.

Usually they are all purple, except for Singstar Rocks which is white and Buzz which is Red.

Oh snap. :lol

That means my Survivor 2 is a newer print run - no wonder it included a 2004/2005 pamphlet for Capcom's upcoming PAL games.

TIME FOR ME TO BUY PAL RE GAMES WITH BLACK CASES

lol no

EDIT: Looks like I have an unofficial case for Outbreak. :( Guess I better order some official cases (UK games tend to come in mediocre conditions).

My Resident Evil Outbreak case is blue.

I think the DVD case colour change from black to blue happened around the time of the PAL Xbox launch. Something like that anyway.

The old cases are not black, they are (really) dark blue. The newer ones are usually blue but some new games (GTA SA for example) have black cases.

Then there are special colors like white for GT4, transparent for MGS2 & MGS3, red for GT3 (only in the bundle) or silver for platinum releases.

Yeah, whats said above.

Black/navy blue cases were around pre-GCN launch.
Medium blue are the main colours now.
Silver for Platinum Hits.
White for GT4.
Black for GTA SA.
Clear for MGS2.
Orange for Buzz 2.
Purple for Singstar Anthems.
Red for GT3 A Spec and Buzz 1.

And a few special tin case editions (MGS3, Driver 4, Hitman Blood Money etc)

I have several PS2 US cases and they seem to be of a poorer quality that their PAL counterparts. Many of them won't close properly and the plastic seems worse, too.

As for the colours of the cases most of them post 2001 are electric blue. And I've got a few in different colours such as MGS2 (clear) or Singstar and GT4 (white). Same goes for some GC games such as Mario Kart Double Dash (red) or the Player's Choice line of games (platinum).

No, it took a while, but the green Xbox cases is definitely why the PS2 ones are blue. Nintendo attempted to go all purple cases too, but gave up right after Sunshine came out.

I don't think I saw a purple case at all during the GCN launch in Australia?

Weird. Because yeah, the Aussie SMS is a black case. I think it was also the first of the new GameCube cases, we originally had the same shitty style of case that America still uses. The ones that feel like they're going to break the discs in half when you take them out of the case. =x

This was a pet peave of mine. Half of the games I would buy having black cases, the other ones blue.
But I was able to exchange every single one of the black ones by buying up mint used games for 10-20€ a pop and exchanging them for games I really wanted.

Now my whole Pal PS2 collection is blue boxed, all 150 of them.
Except for the Metal Gears and the Japanese games.

Any place in Europe that sells the newer style PS2 game cases with the blue color?

I'd also be interested in a few Dreamcast double-disc ones too.

I'd like to know where you can get official cases from... One of mine is cracked pretty bad at the top and another one, the thing on the inside to hold the instruction booklet and leaflets has somehow broken off. :S

anyway, all my PS2 cases are blue apart from Ridge Racer V (black), GT4 (white), MGS2:S & MGS3 (Clear) and 3 Platinum titles (silver). i never really paid attention to the case colours so I assumed they had always been blue except for special ones.
