Questions to ask Major Nelson RE: Family Share Policy

This is the only one that really matters. The feature loses about 75% of its appeal if publishers are allowed to put limitations on it.

Not really. We need to know how the system works first, since going by how it's worded right now it could go from beyond awesome to marginally useful.

Very well I will wipe away the debt.

Wow, I think I was very close to getting banned there.

And for making such a stupid post too.

I was part of the #Ps4NoDRM thing, so I really shouldn't joke away stuff like this.

Sometimes when memes like this build up, you can't help yourself from posting these lame jokes, hoping to get a quote and a smile.

I'll save them for less productive threads :)

Even though this is interesting, to be honest I won't care that much what the replies are: given the online requirement, they can easily make it more lenient or more draconian later on. Policies could change before launch, after launch, etc.

On the other hand, Sony does not seem to have much leeway in making the PS4 more draconian since it does not require online.

He is working on a blog post detailing the feature that will be posted on the Microsoft site. The idea is just to let him see some of the questions people have so they hopefully get answered.

Can the OP please add if possible a question about what happens with non supported countries at launch? Something along the lines of "Are the checks ip based? Or is just ok if there is a game say from the UK activated on a UK Live account and the ip is irrelevant?" Thanks

I'm not sure I understand your question. We do have a question asking if people from different supported regions can share. These questions are not regarding the 24 hour online check.

I'm not familiar with tweeter at all, but if we all send a message to Major Nelson, isn't it some kind of spam / harassment ?

I think they have said already that you need to activate the game in the country where it was bought, but after that you can use it in other regions.

But I may be mistaken, and I'm not sure whether this means that you have to buy games in your own country. If so, that would be the end of cheap imports from UK for the rest of EU. So I think that is worth asking.

The people targeted in #PS4NoDRM were alright with it.

Let me put it in another way. Can someone from Poland(unsupported country at launch) get a game from the UK activate it with his/hers UK Live account even though the ip of the console is going to be a polish one.

Just tweeted it to him right now. How many is that?

24 so far who have stated that they've tweeted.

I don't want to ask Major Nelson that since this whole thing is focused on Family Share. I think Hydrophilic's answer may help you.

Good questions. If he answers everyone of them at least partially, then we should have a good overview of the feature and its restrictions.

To expand on my answer this is what they said:

Xbox rep Danica Stickel said:
Military personnel will be able to take their Xbox One and play their games with them without an issue as long as the game has been ‘activated’ once in the U.S. Your games go with you and play, no issues.

Note that she only refers to the region-locking and not the online-requirement.

Tweet sent - this is one of the few areas where I might be able to be persuaded into considering an XBone at launch. If Major Nelson comes back with the answers we're all hoping for but not really expecting, things could get interesting...

@Justin - Nice username :)

Thanks for the answers. Just wanted confirmation since xbox support chat already told me that the ip does not matter but given their mixed messages on twitter and chat just wanted to ask mn. its not like he is going to answer directly though as the question is too "explicit":)!

Thanks again to everyone involved and especially Phawx for setting this whole thing up. Hopefully we get some clear answers.

Blows my fucking mind that this is even needed. How are these marketing people getting paid? I can take a shit that's more successful in the public eye than what they've done.

I think that you guys have some unrealistic expectations if you think that Major "Transistors-In-The-Cloud" Nelson is going to give you anything but a carefully curated PR response.
