R* bows to GAF pressure: New GTA 5 Screenshots

Good god, what do you even need to RUN that?!

I have an i7 and a 550 Ti(I DIDNT HAVE MUCH MONEY :P)

570gtx runs it pretty well for me at 1600x900. Hopefully R* will make GTA5 good at launch this time for PC, amazing what that guy behind Icehancer managed to do with GTA4

The shadows on the two folks sitting by the water though do not seem as good as what we've seen in the trailer:

Look how the girl here has various light sources lighting her model.
It's probably just an impression, but it seems toned down,

Forget the light sources. Look at dat a.. nah I'm j/k!

To be fair, i think most of the work behind that is from the ENB series dude, nor from LaGlace.

Rockstar said:
As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don’t do this because we ‘don’t care about our fans' 'don’t respect our fans’ 'hate GTA fans etc' – precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it. The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet. We did, however, manage to sneak a quick screenshot out for you… it’s not much, but we thought it was pretty fun.

Obviously a lie judging by the "five" lettering over the roman numeral "V". Really , Rockstar, is that what you think of the average GTA consumer?

Sometimes releasing info early could actually hurt you in the long run. I wonder if max payne would have survived beter if GTA 5 wasn't announced. Also starting to wonder if Rockstar feels they jumped the gun with gta 5.

Bigger than GTA San Andreas? I thought this was only based on one city. I guess they expanded it. But yeah, Biggest? DAMN!

won't mean jack if the city is populated with 75% glorified empty cardboard boxes. really hope they add some more randomness, open/emergent gameplay this time around.

I'd be so happy if this came out on Wii U.

Removable UI would be great. A clean main screen ala Chinatown Wars DS, and Map, ammo, health, etc. on the controller would make a grow man cry.

Wow that's pretty cool, That park is actually right around the corner from my house

That's Lincoln Park by the looks of it, you're allowed to fish, but the only thing in the pond is pollted koi and catfish and goose shit.

I will build a new PC once I secure a decent job, then I am going to play GTAIV again with that ENB mod! Looks incredible! Too bad I have to buy another copy though, I heard it doesn't work with the Steam version. :/

Sort-of, it works like ass on AMD cards.

? I remember the last ENB had a problem with Nvidia overheating, actually.
Maybe it doesn't work properly on any card, lol, but that card is powerful enough to handle it.

I used Icenhancher with a 5850 (ofcourse you won't get 60 fps, that's for sure).

Works fine with Nvidia, it has performance issues on a wide range of AMD cards or just overall lower performance.

Why does size matter? GTAIV was too big and there wasn't enough to do in a small proximity.

It'd be nice if less emphasis was put on the size of the world, and more emphasis was put on what's available to you. More buildings to go into. More stuff to do without having to travel all the way across the city. More focus on small details.

I know people love that feeling of a giant, sprawling city, but what is it worth if the experience is spread thin?

Looks about as drab and boring and GTA4 did.

Size do matter, when you have stuff like jets, also it helps to give your map variety while not make it look like some kind of compact universe.
Can't wait to have a large countryside, a big city with various districts, and all that good stuff, gonna be a joy to explore, for me.

That is not to say i don't want more gameplay stuff to actually do.

Well I'm hoping that the size will include a considerable amount of stuff outside the city which would be great. Suburbs/rural areas, mountains, desert etc.

Someone here threw out the statistic that the city comprises 80% of the world, not sure if that's true but I hope not.

Rockstar went for a tigher experience by using NYC and I wouldn't doubt them doing it again, actually.

Doesn't sound realistic to me.
I mean to have 20sq miles of deserts or fields or even forests, is relatively easy to do, the same space in city terms would require a lot more work.
Besides, i think countryside needs more space to look credible than a city environment does.

What games look interesting in your opinion?

This year? Dishonoured, Sleeping Dogs, Hawken, Project P-100, etc.

Here I'm mostly shamelessly trolling. I don't know whether it's the artists at Rockstar, or the way RAGE handles lighting and shadows, but Rockstar's 'realistic' looking games always look so unbearably drab and muddy to me. The best way I could describe it is everything looking like it's made of clay, lit under a soft light.

And yes I know I'm in a minority and probably blind.

I hope not. Best bits of San Andreas were goofing around in the country side and doing the long run from one city to another.

Man I want a HD San Andreas soon.

I could agree with you on the chopper screenshot (why are all the building so dark?) but the trailer? That looked phenomenal and nothing like GTA4 in the art department.

How can you find this dull?

Hey cool it looks like GTA4 and for some reason people are surprised considering it's a current gen game.

My question was meant in an honest way as I cannot see too many games that look interesting as they're pretty much all the same.

The muddy/lifeless style fits pretty much for LA Noire and GTA IV though, that best describes it. For GTA V I actually like their use of colour, even though I'm not too sure whether it won't just look like GTA IV. Let's hope it looks like the trailer.

The attention to detail is great, but there is nothing here that screams exciting or anything we haven't seen before. 4 was pretty stale, and they need to really make 5 something more enjoyable like GTA used to be.

In that post i was talking about visuals exclusively.
I see a lot of (visually) exciting stuff in there.

I'm pretty sure it's down to the art, I kind of like it though. I think they say they want to go for a painted look, like all the cover art and loading screen art from previous generations.

Obviously they are not quite there yet.

I don't know why the rooftops are so dark like it was Liberty City, maybe they will update the rooftops later ?
They should be greyish

I know I and others have been starved for info from Rockstar but reading this thread makes me understand why they don't show anything and hold their cards to their chest. To a person who hadn't seen the screens people make it sound like a the pics are horrible bargin bin wii game quality or something.

After 8 months of nothing, they could've selcted more beautiful/interesting pics for sure.

Regarding multiple light sources etc, look at this part, too:
iwRFZ9ltUzuQG.gif

The back/left shoulder of the guy is reflecting the yellow poster on the wall.
My guess is that it's either from the PC version of the game (assuming there wil be one) or that the trailer is simply cranked up stuff.
After all weren't the light effects in the GTA4 first trailer also better than what was in the final game?

They only released these screens to shut people up. Hence why they're nothing significant. But I hope they release more screens soon.

You say it like it's the people's fault if they released a trailer following it with months of nothing.
It was a questionable choice at best (in R* fashion).

Yay... screenshots. You guys are easy to excite.

So what do you want, an unfinished game released right at this moment or a trailer they're not comfortable with just yet? I'm curious to hear your answer.

Shadow isn't even good. If anything those shadows belong on consoles.

Did they say it was actual game footage? Light redistribution like that is pretty common with ray tracing used in photo-realistic rendering engines like RenderMan.
