Damn. I always loved his work and you can tell he influenced so many people. His work was so fluid, so dynamic even compared to some of todays modern artists. He was a master. Able to convey so much with just one sketch. The industry is lessened because of his absence. RIP Joe Kubert. You are a legend.

Sad to see him go, but at the same time he lived to be 85, was able to raise a family, pass his skills on to two super talented sons, will be fondly remembered for his art and was appreciated in his own time.

That's a great life for an artist, and in the final analysis as much as any of us can hope for. So rather than mope, I'll just salute the guy.

Not sure tragic is the right term - he made it to 85, and accomplished a hell of a lot, more than most illustrators ever did.

RIP, and you know the legend will never die.

REST IN PEACE.

Aside from all the pioneering bullshit they had to deal with (pay, working conditions, etc), these old timers lived out their dreams by doing what they loved.

Andy and Adam are fine artists as well. They carry the torch for him and benefitted in more ways than one from their fathers work.

The guy is a legend but I always thought his unique drawing style was an acquired taste. I was reading Russ Manning's Tarzan comics in the seventies and then the publisher suddenly began publishing Joe Kubert's take on Tarzan. Talk about culture shock!

What a great artist, definitely inspired alot of the comic book artists you see today and his sons are almost just as good as him. RIP :(

Always wanted to go to his school when I was younger. Would see it advertised inside most comic books in the 80s and 90s.

Wow...did DC really just plug one of their books in their obituary to him? Really?

"We are saddened to learn of the death of our colleague and friend Joe Kubert. An absolute legend in the industry, his legacy will not only live on with his sons, but with the many artists who have passed through the storied halls of his celebrated school. His latest work on BEFORE WATCHMEN: NITE OWL was among his best, and we are so honored to have worked side-by-side with such an unforgettable force in both comics and in life." - DC Entertainment Executive Team

You're listing him as a great artist and you just happen to pick the book that's out now instead of one of his past achievements? Dicks.

What the fuck DC. Also Warner.

Not cool. Make a buck (or five) on another day. And definitely not on the day of that comic book legends death at his expense. Bad form.

The outcry apparently got them to rewrite it:
"We are saddened to learn of the death of our colleague and friend Joe Kubert. An absolute legend in the industry, his legacy will live on through his remarkable talent, with his sons and with the many artists who have passed through the storied halls of his celebrated school. An important member of the DC Comics family, Joe made an indelible mark on the entire DC Comics universe including his renowned and award-winning work on iconic characters such as Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, Hawkman and most recently Nite Owl. We are so honored to have worked side-by-side with such an unforgettable force in both comics and in life." - DC Entertainment Executive Team.

Sgt. Rock, Hawkman, and father of Andy Kubert. What a legacy.

he was from a time where artist put out a massive amount of work and on time too. and the art never suffered for it, not once. a true illustrator and draftman and great creator.
