R2 on my DS4 is broken for the 3rd time

Come on Sony, this is ridiculous. These controllers are so shoddily made. Exact same problem on the exact same button 3 times in a row. I haven't had the crumbling sticks yet but I'm sure that is next.

Very cheap and disappointingly produced. Now I'm on my way to buy yet another one because I doubt anyone will help me with warranty.

You can get replacement R2's on amazon for cheap. The little plastic dowel where the trigger pivots is what breaks. It's fairly easy to replace.

I understand your frustration, I've had to fix 3 of them already as well.

You have a 12 month warranty on these things? Why not use it? Luckily I've never had this issue with any of mine, and I have hundreds of hours in to them. I have had the wearing left stick rubber problem though. But I just replaced the sticks out myself with new originals, so it wasn't too much of an issue. Only took a few minutes.

These controllers are pure garbage. I just bought another one and out of the box it has a squeaky R2 button. Luckily, I was able to get a replacement from the seller so I hope that one is finally the one that doesn't have issues.

exact same spot to three controllers.... do you play a game that uses R2 on a constant basis (racing game maybe)? Haven't really heard of this specific complaint. I've used R2 on about 100 hours of Driveclub on my launch controller with no issues.

Broken in what way?

My bundled launch DS4 is still in great shape, though my second controller had dodgy R2/L2 triggers from day one. It's like they've got a little wiggle room to the left and right, which makes them feel kinda loose and clunky.

They pivot on little plastic nubs. the nubs are fragile and prone to breaking.

I have probably 400+ hours on my camo controller and have zero issues. I guess I'm lucky, seems more often than not people have issues.

3? You sure you're not being too rough with them? I had 2 R1 buttons stick, but never had the worn analogs or trigger issues.

This is embarrassing for products that cost 50 bucks.

$50 to sell doesn't mean it costs $50 to make.

After I started rocking an NL Shadow 701X in Destiny (a high rate of fire Scout rifle), I was going trigger crazy on R2. After about a week, R2 started squeaking. Needed an application of WD40 to fix it.

I've always hated how creaky and cheap the triggers feel. Driveclub was the worst for it. Just holding down the accelerator and the trigger would be still be creaking under the pressure.

I figured out I broke my button because I was death gripping the controller. Replaced the R2 and now I don't squeeze the controller like I was before. I'm not surprised I broke it now that i think about it.

I've gone through a few bags of replacements from eBay, with multiple controllers. I've replaced R2 at least 10 times but stopped counting. It's ridiculous.

my launch day ds4 is working fine

am i doing something wrong?

I bet you don't play Destiny using scout rifles

i've seen people having a lot of problems with the controllers. i have 2 controllers (1 i got before ps4 launched and the other came with the system) and they are both good as new (battery life sucks dick though). i have used them a lot too so i guess i just lucked out. hopefully sony fixes whatever issues they are having making these

My R2 just broke too, making Phantom Pain annoying right now. I wish I had looked into replacements before buying another, but it was about time I got a second anyways.

So how do you actually break the R2 buttons? I have two controllers and can't imagine a scenario where I continuously slam and abuse the R2 buttons harsher than I already have done and do during play sessions of Driveclub (in which I have 300+ hours of play time). Is it from hitting them hard, or twisting them or something? Perhaps a certain batch has more QC issues?

Side note, creaking triggers are from over torqued screws on the back of the pad. I caused this myself accidentally on one of my pads after I put it back together having replaced the left stick. If you just loosen the screw next to the trigger that is squeaking, it should stop squeaking and function normally.

This is the thing. The R1 sticking HAS to be faulty design. It would be hard for the user to cause that.

But with the worn analogs and a busted trigger, you have to wonder how much is the user in those instances.

I got two DS4s during Black Friday last year that I just opened for 4 player goodness, and found out both R2 triggers are squeaky as all hell. I guess I shouldn't trust Sony's quality going forward and test my controllers within my return policy.

I guess I'll call Sony and make it their problem, since my two launch DS4s are flawless.

I feel for you OP.

My near launch DS4 is experiencing minor stick drift on the right thumb stick (noticeable in MGSV, CoD and SUPER noticeable in Loadout). And my L2 is ridiculously squeaky haha.

Turn off the vibration on your next controller.

Two of my controllers started giving out in a similar fashion as yours OP. Same thing happened to a friend of mine. The next controllers we had have been perfect for about a year now.

Turn off the vibration on your next controller.

Haha really? This is actually a thing? Where the vibration actually contributes to the problem?

That is hilariously ironic considering it's called a Dualshock. So I have to turn off the feature that the controller is named after because it helps break it. Great stuff, Sony.

I wish I knew what y'all do to your controllers, the only thing I've had to do for my launch controller is get the rubber stick covers. I was probably on my third or fourth 360 controller at this point in its life.

One black and one white launch controller completely faultless. And I even had my time with Visions of Confluence.
I guess I should thank my luck.

My launch one was actually flawless, but the first one I bought had a defective speaker. Everything sounded like it was from a ham radio. Replacement is better, but R2 squeaks.

Where are you buying your controllers?

I get mine from BestBuy. I put a 2 year warranty on it for $11 and any time it messes up or if the sticker comes off (you can return and replace it with a new one for no reason at all really)

You won't need to renew it until the 2 years are up. Meaning between the 2 years, you can bring your DS4 and replace it with a brand new one probably an unlimited amount of times.

I've already replaced my DS4 5 times. Right sticks getting stuck, phantom movement, R2 broken, sticker peeling off the back and worn out thumbsticks. The girl at the register was even sweet enough to renew my 2 year warranty, for free.

The controllers are cheap, but there's definitely a cheap solution if you have a best buy around you. Other retailers probably offer similar deals.

My launch controller still works wonderfully with 1000s of hours of play... please post some pictures. I want to see how people break controllers.

Somehow I suspect this is not the full story.

I remeber my friend having disc read issues with ps2. Call8ng sony shotty names then I went to his house and all the dsics were open on the floor like cartridges. ..

I have over a thousand hours in Destiny alone and have gone through 2 DS4 because of the R2 button. My first one that broke was a blue controller which I bought a soon as they released and then my launch DS4's R2 went to shit a few weeks back. Yea, Destiny will break that R2 button since it requires to be pressed a lot.

I am currently playing Destiny on a Hori pad FPS pro and loving it.

Can I take just my DS4 back to gamestop if I purchased a 2 year warranty on my launch ps4?

Not had any problems with my 2 ps4 launch controllers but my x1 controller I got with the sunset overdrive bundle has a problem with the lb already. Aren't these kinds of things built pretty cheaply and sold on for big profit?
