Played the demo, impressions and questions..

1. Graphics are about GTR-2 quality, physics are also GTR-2 like. Overall, I love it.
2. Works fine at 1280x960 on my 7600GS without antialiasing. Great.
3. It has the SEAT WTCC in it. Excellent!
4. The XBOX 360 wireless pad works great with it once you lower the steering sensitivity to 0% and map gas/brake to left/right trigger.
5. I'm getting this game, unless there's a Race or GTR coming for the 360 anytime soon.. so someone tell me?
6. Brand's Hatch.. I know that circuit really well somehow but I can't remember which game I raced it in. GPL?
7. Did I mention I really love it? I wonder if it supports widescreen resolutions or not, if it does, I may hook up my PC to my HDTV..

In Sweden they will air 10 races on TV starting September 16. So just as you would watch a F1 race on a sunday you will watch a race with players running Race07.

Anyone can qualify to the races using the demo and a qualifying license that cost 20 SEK (~3 USD), and the winner of the whole lot wins 100,000 SEK (~ 14,500 USD)!

All on Virtual Grand Prix:

"Downloading this now. Can anyone tell me how the Race series compares to Codemaster's TOCA Race Driver?"

Race 07 will be very similar to Race Driver in that it will feature a handful of racing series. The first Race was simply just WTCC and Mini Coopers (Caterhams added later). I prefer Race, but both are going for the sim racing appeal.

(*cough* rFactor's better than both)

Just tried the open wheels...

Couldn't even finish a lap. Too much torque(?) and always spinning in the lower gears. You would have to pump the gas to go around a corner, where as someone with pedals could just hold it half way down and sail by....

I remember why I stopped playing GTR now :(

I was just posting to say I did 1.22.537 but looks like we both got owned :lol I'm driving at Pro difficulty with all aids off, btw..

I could easily shave off a couple of seconds if I played more with the demo. So far I like it a lot, the sense of speed is good, although sometimes the cars feel a little too floaty at high speeds (which is actually normal..)

The engine sounds sort of suck though.

Ah well, it wins my purchase by having a drivable Seat :D

Think my money will be going to the next incanration of Race Driver as that is traditionally more "controller" friendly.

I'm playing with the 360 controller and it's as good as it will ever get without a wheel? Have you seen my post about how I set it up above?

I'm playing with a PS2 controller and on the open wheels it's impossible to accelerate out of corners unless you're going dead straight. So basically I can't accelerate at the apex of the corner and I end up getting soundly beaten.

The only time I've been able to control the open wheels was tonight when I joined a Novice server. And even then, maintaining momentum is a huge pain in the ass with a controller (PS2 here).

At least I can control the Seat and BMW relatively well on Pro... until it rains.

Thing is hardly anyone races on Novice servers, it's all pro and up. Wouldn't be able to race with the open wheels and I would be missing out on part of the game :(

1:18.133 -- Any faster than that and I tip my hat to you sir. And also question why a pro racer is getting his rocks off setting marginally faster times than amateurs on a forum when he knows he could blow them out of the water. And I use a DFP.

Verry very nice, I will try. And where is this pro racer doing that :lol

Im using the MS wheel currently :( , But our former forum goer Gek is sending me a DFP to use :D Cant wait.

Edit: Have you modified the setup of the car much?

Nah, I only have a very, very, very small understanding of car setups.

So all stock, very nice. Ill work on beating it soon.

I can't break 1:19...

You're gonna have to share a replay soon to show me where I'm losing out :P

Its hard to say, you could be taking just one or two corners really bad, or you could be taking a lot of corners just off line. I cant seem to find anywhere to even save a full replay unfortunately, but all I can say is try to beat you ghost every time.

Also, it is absolutely key to get your turn-in points correct and hit the apex of the corner. That should allow you to accelerate out much faster and shave a lot of time off.

What wheel/controller are you using btw?

Old-hand sim-racer, so I know the techniques :P (GPL, Nascar, NetKar etc.)

The wheel is def. slowing me down a bit, I'm used to my BRD Sim Pro (non-FF) but it's broken so I've borrowed my brothers DFP, getting used to FF again after so long without it is a trial in itself :P

As for the replays, You can select "Save Time Attack" from the race menu, and the file is ta file located in the TIMEATTACK\*track* directory.

Maybe youre taking corners in an unoptimal gear? Im not sure. I hear ya on the wheel, Im worried about how much adjustment its going to take once I get the DFP and actually have some FFB, rather than just auto-centering :lol

(You could always turn off the FFB and see if that makes any difference..

Thats probably going to be my next move, however if my BRD is too expensive to fix I'm gonna have to get a G25 anyway, so it may be time to get used to FF :P

Haha, oh man, asking me to shave off another 7 tenths off my time is asking a lot of me. I really put everything I had into that one :-p.

Vennt: My time

Ohhh, nice, it doesn't load them as a replay, but as a ghost car... coool :D

That's shown me where I'm losing time too, too early braking into T1, and too cautious thru T2.

Tomorrow I'll give it another stab :D

T2 is tricky, Vennt. I'm not even sure how to describe it, but if there was one turn I restarted the most on, it's that one.

Agreed, its especially difficult because if you take it too slow, the rear end will almost always slip out as you try to accelerate out. I think the best way to attack that corner is have your exit point aimed straight for the green runoff point after riding the inner rumble strips or hugging them as close as possible. Easier said than done, I know :lol
