what about "kike"? I hadn't even heard that until recently and I'd like to know how it ranks on the offensiveness scale. What does it even mean? I heard it refers to Jewish people somehow.

"kike is derived from the hebrew word for circle, which is the mark many jews made on their immigration papers coming into america (instead of an "x" for their signature). like many other racial slurs, it came from immigration officers who used it as short-hand for a population group entering the country. "

The weirdest one I've ever heard is "moon cricket".

You got that from The Soup didn't you? It may have been from elsewhere. Moon Cricket is by far the best one. :lol

It's funny when I'm talking to my white friends (I'm a brotha *raises fist*), and they're afraid to say the "n" word (ironic how I'm not saying it, but I don't want to get banned) when they are putting it in context.

Reading some of the terms in here...there's some really weird ones I've never heard about before.

zipperhead is the one i don't get at all.

Zipperhead? Never got that one.

Ditto, I didn't understand it when I watched Gran Torino, so I looked it up.

During the Korean War, when the tanks would run over the dead koreans, the tank treads would imprint/mash the corpses leaving them looking like zippers.

Pretty effed up...

The term jiggaboo never really offended me. It sounds like a black person who's an excellent dancer.

( and just in case this thread is ban bait, I'm pulling the "I'm black, so I can say that." card :lol)

I used to call my friend a 'prime'. It was short for Blackimus Prime because she was black.

I was once called a "Bean Machine", but I actually thought that sounded pretty fucking awesome.

I've only been called a 'spic' over the internet because people are oh so ballsy online. 'Spic' is still a weird one though.

A slur I really never even knew existed was 'Dago'. Apparently it's a racial slur for an Italian person. I only discovered it because the word filter in Phantasy Star Online halted my quest for the Ice Staff: Dagon.

Is "Jap" still considered offensive? I know that Americans called the Japanese that in WWII, but I don't know if still holds true today. And how can an abreviation be offensive anyway? That's like calling Americans "Ameri's". But IDK, war is a sensitive time

I thought they were called wetbacks because of their filthy hair dripping slop all down their backs.

This is why I usually read these threads. There's always one or two people that just have to say something weird.:lol

I thought the same thing for a while, but the insinuation is that they got here illegally. It's extremely offensive, but thanks to Carlos Mencia, it's on everybody's tongue's now!

I'd like to ask about the one that got permutated nixed, "kike." Does it have any history to the word or did it just show up one day and became a slur?

Racial slurs are baseless, but it is interesting to learn the meaning behind them, then again maybe that's just because I'm an english major at heart. Still, I've gotten a lot of people to drop their use of the word "faggot" after they learned what the term suggests.

Explain?

I think it's dumb that jap is a racial slur. Oh no, you made an abbreviation of the country Japanese people come from and the language Japanese people speak. How offensive........

Faggot means a bundle of sticks, insinuating that homosexuals should be burned alive.

But hey, jocks get a hoot out of saying the word, so it can't be that bad, right?!

holy crap that Wikipedia list is looooooong

Edit: I mean, seriously, the British have a specific racial slur for the Argentinians?
WUT?!!! >:(
LET ME CHECK !

I've always liked the Muslim term 'pig eaters' for Christian Westerners.

It's clearly meant to offend, but to me, it's like being called 'woman fucker' or 'party lover'.

Argie
(UK) a native of Argentina (also Argie-bargie : any argument, disagreement, or (typically) sporting event involving Argentina or Argentinians), used by the British press during the Falklands War. Coined by Britain's The Sun newspaper in 1982. :lol

Ive heard Argie Bargie on some british comedy and i tought it sounded funny, but didnt know it was a slur. :D
(Shameless and Extras are awesome, check those series guys)
*Hugs British gaffers*

also FOBs

lots of samoans get called this in kiwi land. Means 'Fresh off the boat' I'm sure it's used in other countries as we usually don't even think up our own dumb shit.

Colored guy who lives in a sandy country.

Seems pretty straightforward.

Muslims, Arabs, North africans. It's super offensive.
First time I heard this was about 10 years ago, went into a gas station with some coworkers, we came back into the car and one of the guys makes a remark about the 'wetback' working at the counter. I said something like, 'uh, i'm pretty sure that guy was middle eastern', which he responds with "sand n* whatever, all the same". Epic face palm ensued on my part.

"Most likely originated in Korea either by referring Korea's original name, "Hanguk", or during the Korean War when Koreans would ask American GI's "Mi Guk?" ("American?" in Korean) which sounded like they were saying "Me gook." Was soon adopted for use in the Vietnam War."

That's what another site said about it.

Why are Polish ppl considered "dumb"?

Many of the smartest people I know have Polish ancestry in them. (plus I'm 1/2 Polish too)

Macaco to Brazilians The Argentinians call Brazilians "macacos" (monkeys in brazilian portuguese language) because they are more racially mixed. Specially used in soccer confrontations.
mhmhm i never heard it.

Cabezita Negra Hispanics What whites in Argentina call mestizo people who are darker and poorer. It means Little Black Head; Most of the Argentinians from european heritage either have blonde or light colored hair.

mhmhm well today its used but not as a racial slur, more like a 'economic class' slur.
(Clearly related to General Peron politics)

Nope. Racial slurs aren't a particular interest of mine like say mythology and history. My confidence and faith in the human race are low enough from studying the latter (even if racial slurs do fall under the topic of history).

I can't tell if you're going for a 'being so ignorant that it's hilarious' move or you're....

Do any white people here get offended by white person insults? I can't. I guess there's no history of us being screwed over really so it's hard to do anything except smile if I get called a cracker or a honky.
The only thing that "offends" me about white slurs is a combination of -

1. Them not offending me, and
2. The people who say them getting SUPER offended if I use a slur in return.

There are a lot of people from the Phillippines in my area for some reason, and I've heard the term "pineapple" in recent years thrown about. I guess it has that alliteration thing going, but maybe it's also because a lot of them like to drive yellow cars?

I think it's funny how I've been called a "redneck" and a "hillbilly" by urbanites for being born in the South when I don't a)have an accent and b)have lived nowhere near any hilly terrain. I don't get offended by anything, people only make themselves look dumb by saying stuff that doesn't apply... or by randomly judging others.

Beaner - They eat refried beans.

Wetback - They swam to America from Cuba.

Please don't kill me.

I thought wetback was because they're known to be such hard workers and the sweat seeps through the shirt on their backs...

Chunt-a bad-dressed Mexican:lol :lol :lol :lol

I don't see how this is racist. I use this word almost everyday. It's a common word that mexicans like myself use it to insult other mexicans.

Probably to Japanese Americans. If not the younger generation then definitely the older, but these things tend to get passed down.

And you're right, it comes from WWII and the hatred some people had for the Japanese at the time. Not to mention they used it in newspapers frequently; seeing articles like 'THE JAPS SURRENDER' I can see how it became offensive.

Edit: Take a look here to see what I mean:
