"Racism growing in Europe"

And go where?

Planet Mars, the only place where there is no racism.

You can't avoid it, though to be honest I haven't had much of a problem in England. Though people do seem to be racist towards Pakistanis who cause trouble. Otherwise it has been relatively peaceful. Just depends on the area you live in.

Are you kidding me? America must rule the roost on Islamaphobia. Half the crap your people AND politicians say (publicly) would get lauded out and lambasted to high hell here in the UK.
I didn't know the UK was all of europe

That writing has been on the wall for years. I'm not defending it, but this is expected considering most of this immigration has been recent to areas that simply aren't used to such a thing. I don't see things improving either.

Instead they're seen as terrorists who want to do nothing more than blow up something and therefore it's completely justified to harass them at airports

Show me one actual statistic that even a percentage of Americans think of Muslims as terrorists first and foremost and I'll show you overwhelmingly evidence that Europeans (especially the often hilariously fetishized Nordic countries) more and more are thinking of Muslims as rapists and invaders who are destroyed their pure, noble way of life. And this isn't some ignorant mob mentality of a vocal minority, it's reached the highest levels of government too. An American President wouldn't be caught dead saying "multiculturalism has failed."

Most of Europe would still count in my assessment. Bar maybe France. But even then, it's a toss up. Heck in the US you can't even advertise programmes to do with Muslim's shown in a positive light, that's how sad this farce has become.

Personally I believe the media is blowing the "growing racism" reports completely out of proportion. Truth is, because of the european history the public is sensitized to these issues much stronger, thus more media about it, even if the given indications for this are are probably equally as much as in non-european countries.
Let's face it: The lord has spread nutjobs all over the world. Not only in Europe. And dumb folks like the listen to them, all over the world. Our media and politicans just like to talk about them more than in other countries.

That part was grossly missinterpreted by the media, though. What Merkel said is that their method of multicultural integration had failed and that they had to look other (better) ways to accommodate those immigrants.

Link? Or are you confusing Lowe's pulling ads from "All-American Muslim"?

Jesus, guys, lighten up. Damn.

The US gets dissed a lot this board and I'm no jingoist at all. It's all in good fun.

The Lord? What have you done?

i wonder what would happen if I changed all my posts poking fun at europe by replacing "europe" with "america"

i imagine i'd get far less haters

there is no exaggeration, "anti-americanism" is a bit strong of a word, but american antagonism is very much real and very strong in OT

A lot of Americans haven't woken up yet. If I'm on GAF at 4 or 5am in my timezone I feel like a pilgrim in an unholy land.

Muslim living in NYC. Great place even though we get instances of racism but its no where near what people in other parts of the country have to deal with.

Racism threads on GAF basically go like this: If it happend in America then Europe's tolerance gets praised. If it happend in Europe then Americas tolerance gets praised.

Muslims aren't seen as some sort of sub-human plague in America as they increasingly are in Europe.

indeed. just ask the folks at the ground zero mosque!

probably because this board is US dominated and most of em are democrats (is the impression I get) all the dodgy racist poor hatin stuff is seen as a rather republican affair by Americans.

Presidential candidate Herman Cain thinks like this, apparantly:
The exchange on that issue opened with a question to former GodfatherÂ’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain, who had said previously that he wouldnÂ’t feel comfortable appointing a Muslim to his presidential Cabinet.

“I would not be comfortable because you have peaceful Muslims and then you have militant Muslims – those that are trying to kill us,” Cain said at Monday night’s debate. “And so when I said I wouldn’t be comfortable, I was thinking about the ones who are trying to kill us.”

So Herman Cains first reaction when he hears about appointing Muslims to the us presidential cabinet is "why would i appoint someone who is trying to kill me to the cabinet". I mean, wtf.

But is he alone thinking like this?

CainÂ’s and GingrichÂ’s comments on American Muslims supplied some of the nightÂ’s biggest applause lines.

I guess not...

I'm sorry but republican presidential candidates say a lot of stupid anti muslim shit that only the Swedish rightwing anti-immigrant fringe party representatives would say. These are people who represent around 4% of the voters, they are not presidential candidates.

I disagree with your conclusion.

Oh. One of these.

The posters who carried on the off-topic 'Merica vs. Europe debate are infinitely worse than the single poster who started it. In response to the OP: Good luck, European minorities.

I'm out.

...the posting habits of the entire board?

At least most people under-play it, you're the first I've seen that implies it's not really there

Americans are nicer people in my experience, certainly more approachable...I mean, you can actually make eye contact without fearing reprisals

That's just it though, in Europe (not all of it mind) those crazy fearmongering, often racist groups or parties are fringe parties that have little support and get slated left and right, not even taken seriously. In the US, they are a huge portion. Just look at the GOP and the people running, they really aren't that far from sounding like the leaders or supporters of the BNP or EDL. That's the sad thing about it all.

when people call you a stupid troll it's not because you are american
