Radio songs that get you hyped in GTA games

I like GTA IV's and V's soundtracks more than the PS2 era soundtracks. The PS2 soundtracks didn't feel like they belonged on radio stations, they felt like greatest hits albums divided into their respective genres.

IV and V's soundtracks are closer to what would be played on radio stations, but diverse enough to not get boring like most local radio stations.
This is very true. I think GTA IV's soundtrack is especially impressive because of how well all of it goes together, it's remarkably cohesive. It feels like the whole song selection was assembled to convey a specific mood. Switch radio stations all you like, but you're unlikely to avoid songs that add to the game's dreamlike/oppressive/dirty atmosphere.
You know something's up when a game uses Mama as its obligatory Phil Collins song.

Bunch of stuff I'm sure but songs like Killing in the Name and Cult of Personality from Radio X come to mind.

In GTA4 the most memorable song for me is Philip Glass' Koyaanisqatsi theme. It was what set the tone for the game in the first trailer and was chilling every time it played in the game.

Also for some reason When Love Takes Over took over me every time it played in BoGT.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
GTA V:
R Cali - ASAP Rocky
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVQiynoIvBo&hd=1 - something about that beat just makes me get chills

I originally came here to post this. But some others I liked crossed my path,

A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran

This song ALWAYS got me hyped when playing Vice City.

My defining memory of GTA will always be cruising by the beach in Vice City as "Steppin Out" by Joe Jackson comes on. It helped that I had never really heard the song before.

Ctrl+F "Loverboy"

Come on, GAF. It was one of the best car chase songs in Vice City.

Loverboy - Working for the Weekend

"Take these broken wings and learn to fly again, learn to live so freeeeee!"

The Eddie Murphy classic, Party all the time, is a hilarious song that's fantastic when you're close to death, but want to hang on to life. Also is the perfect song for cruising at high speeds around San Andreas.

Hall and Oates - Out of touch from Vice City.

A few of the songs on Vice City I made a music mix of for listening to on my PC, phone, etc.. Its led off with Broken Wings.

For GTA V it was "I can't wait" by Stevie Nicks or "West End Girls" by The Petshop Boys. The majority of songs on Flash FM, Fever 105 or Wave 103 always got me hype though.

I absolutely love the majority of GTA 3's soundtrack, so there's a lot of songs that definitely get me 'hyped,' lol.

Rise FM - Slyder - Score
MSX FM - MSX FM in its entirety - I loved this station so much I bought the Moving Shadow 01.1 CD, which is basically the MSX mix in its entirety with a little bit extra.
K-Jah Radio - Scientist - Your Teeth In My Neck
Head Radio - Connor & Jay - Change
Lips 106 - Da Shootaz - Joyride - Obligatory. Pretty much the unofficial theme of the GTA series, lol.

Markitron

Is currently staging a hunger strike outside Gearbox HQ while trying to hate them to death
Everytime myself and my friend get drunk we have to put on 'Work' by Kelly Rowland. We are 30 year old hardcore Pearl Jam fans btw.

When you say GTA games, do you actually mean GTA games, or are you counting games of that ilk that aren't GTA? I ask because Saint's Row has some *incredible* use of music at key moments.

I've got such a long list but I'm on my phone at the moment. Some really genius song selections are included on every GTA soundtrack- I'll post them tonight I hope!

Hellraiser - Ozzy Osbourne

GTA San Andreas

Forgot all about the missions when this song came on and just put the pedal to the metal and cruised. The guitar playing in this song is absolutely superb.

First time I heard it, I was 15. Now I'm 23. Reminds me of my high school life.

I was very disappointed by the lack of music in GTA V. It seems like I hear the same 5 songs over and over. Surprised they didn't try to design a system that allows you to hook into your iTunes or something.

GTA V:
Freddie Gibbs - Still Livin(Best song on the soundtrack)
YG - I'm a Real one
BJ the Chicago kid - Smoking n Ridin
and pretty much all the Old School songs

those are the ones that really get me hype I can't remember anything from the older GTAs but I'm pretty sure alot of them were posted by others.

Mmm hmm..I know it's supposed to be the radio but the song selection in the hip hop stations are nowhere near grimy enough for my tastes (Liberty City Stories excluded).

Ice Cube's Today Was A Good Day, in San Andreas. Didn't want to exit my vehicle whenever that was on. :D

And West Coast Clasics in V. Ambitions as a ridah, Still Dre, The Next Episode, Streight up Menace.. aahhhhhhh yyeeah

Artist - Song - Why I like it:

GTA 5:
Queen - Radio GaGa - Fantastic when you're just cruising around, great song anyway.
Phil Collins - I Don't Care Anymore - Fantastic for "quiet driving" at night in the country.
Chain Gang of 1974 - Sleepwalking - Fitting song for the trailer, very "pumped" feeling.
Eddie Murphy - Party All the Time - Nightlife sounding song, fast paced.

GTA 4/EFLC:
Queen - One Vision - Hard rocking and great for rainy NY.
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell - Dat solo.
Foghat - Drivin' Wheel - Hard rock, driving song.

GTA SA:
Boston - Smokin' - The only Boston song on a GTA game so far, favourite band.

GTA VC - Didn't like its soundtrack.
GTA 3 - Didn't like its soundtrack.

Others I haven't played or can't remember.

I didn't include Free Bird for SA because it's on the country station with its solo shamefully cut off :C.

I'll be surprised if many on GAF agree with me on these though. Happy to be proven wrong!

This is one of the most surprising things I ever read. Did you not even like the talk stations?

Skeletons by Stevie Wonder is still my ringtone. For good reason.

Missing You by John Waite doesn't exactly pump me up, but it almost always takes me back to being 15 and cruising through Vice City.
