Radiohead: A Moon Shaped Pool one year later

May 8, 2016: We received this:

A_Moon_Shaped_Pool.jpg

In it:

1. "Burn the Witch"
2. "Daydreaming"
3. "Decks Dark"
4. "Desert Island Disk
5. "Ful Stop"
6. "Glass Eyes"
7. "Identikit"
8. "The Numbers"
9. "Present Tense"
10. "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief"
11. "True Love Waits"

I absolutely adore this album. Particularly "The Numbers" and "Glass Eyes."

I'd rank them:

Amnesiac
Kid A
In Rainbows
A Moon Shaped Pool
The Bends
OK Computer
Hail to the Thief
Pablo Honey
The King Of Limbs

What about you?

I wish I could get a better impression of how it played, honestly. I got stuck on Desert Island Disk, couldn't get past the chorus section; I ended up watching a let's play of the rest.

The graphics were alright though

Feels more like In Rainbows 1.5 to m---

---oh wait, this is a non-gaming topic. Yeah, it's still an amazing album. Love it, front-to-back.

Yeah, it's good. Middle of the road for Radiohead, IMO.

I'd say:

In Rainbows
Kid A
OK Computer
Amnesiac
A Moon Shaped Pool
The Bends
The King Of Limbs
Hail to the Thief
Pablo Honey

Really love this album and I am still bummed there is no Live From the Basement version. I guess I can still keep my fingers crossed.

For me:

Amnesiac
Kid A
Hail to the Thief
A Moon Shaped Pool
In Rainbows
OK Computer
The Bends
The King Of Limbs
Pablo Honey

Love all though, except Pablo.

OK Computer and In Rainbows are the peak Radiohead albums.

I'd put AMSP above The King of Limbs and The Bends, but below Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief.

I love this album! It fells like a cohesive collection of songs, unlike The King of Limbs.

At first I didn't enjoy True Love Waits, but over time it clicked with me. It's so heart wrenching...

My rankings right now:

1. In Rainbows
2. Kid A
3. Ok Computer
4. A Moon Shaped Pool
5. The Bends
6. Hail to The Thief
7. Amnesiac
8. The King of Limbs
9. Pablo Honey

I think the album fits really well within the discography. The album really the shows the growth and maturity of Radiohead.

Now hold on a second.....OK Computer isn't number 1 on any the these lists?!? RadioheadGAF man!

A Moon Shaped Pool was pretty good, idk how I'd personally rank the albums but OK Computer is my favorite.

I think OK Computer is Radiohead's best work, but it's not my favorite of theirs. Often the case with bands that have had a discography as long and varied as Radiohead

OK Computer and In Rainbows are the peak Radiohead albums.

I'd put AMSP above The King of Limbs and The Bends, but below Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief.

Scust at putting The Bends below Amnesiac and Hail to Thief...

This is my personal ranking

1.Kid A
2.In Rainbows
3.Ok Computer
4.The Bends
5.A Moon Shaped Pool
6.Amnesiac
7.Hail to the Thief
8.Pablo Honey
9.The King of Limbs

Pablo Honey is actually not a bad album.

It's all downhill after In Rainbows.

Lol no. Moon Shaped Pool is loads better than King of Limbs

It's forgettable to me, although I do find it enjoyable to listen to. It's just their first album that I would classify as non-essential.

I think there's a strong argument that King of Limbs is more important within the band's discography. But it's important to think of KOL as a work in progress because so many of its tracks were improved in subsequent versions (Live from Basement, but more recently on tour as well). The new Lotus Flower is a banger live. Feral is my favorite track since In Rainbows (specifically, a couple of the live renditions which are like techno-grunge or some crazyness). Similarly, the new live version of Magpie rips.

The band played it safe with AMSP and, as a result, they made something palatable to their fans that has aspects of past albums, but none of it feels important or treading new territory, in the way that KOL was. I'm not saying novelty is necessarily good for its own sake, but I do think that AMSP is the line in the sand when the band started to really show its age and waning creativity.

Edit: I also think that it's completely reasonable to rank AMSP in their top albums. It's beautiful and enjoyable and shows how talented the band is. No doubt about it.

I'd rank A Moon Shaped pool as equal second best after OK Computer. Of course it is equal second with all their other albums, because they are all bad and kind of irrelevant.

I'm looking forward to their new album, which is also OK Computer. I think this is the true follow up we have been waiting so long for.

Honestly, I had to give it space but i think it's one of my favorite albums. That said, it demands to be listened to under proper circumstances. The mastering is so layered and filled with shimmering pianos and effects that are all but lost in anything but good headphones.

It's painful stuff. Really heartbreaking. Ful Stop and Decks Dark are among the best songs they've made and both songs have managed to hypnotize me
many times over the last year. Getting the chance to see them live twice on the Moon Shaped Pool tour only cemented how good the music is.

Anyway, an amazing album from an amazing band.

It's a good album but it doesn't reach the holy trinity of OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows.

I haven't listened to it in a while though, thanks for reminding me OP.

1.OK Computer
2.Kid A
3.In Rainbows
4.The Bends
5.A Moon Shaped Pool
6.Amnesiac
7.Hail To The Thief
8.The King Of Limbs
9.Pablo Honey

Love this album. Identikit is my jam.

Man, I'd like to know the age-range of posters here. I didn't listen to Ok Computer when I was younger and definitely find it to be a much less interesting album than their later later work. It's amazing - but it still sounds like a Brit-rock album. Every effort thereafter has an identity tied to each album, AMSP included.

It's sad and depressing, but not in a very come back to way for me like say Disintegration.

It's also very layered so you miss a lot just putting it on in the car driving.

Also I like ambient electronica, but this is much more strings and piano than a sad ambient electronic version of say Kid A or KoL.

Album just didn't stick with me despite me knowing it's good craftsmanship.
