RAGE Dead City Trailer (Gameplay)

I thought we were done carrying 50 different weapons?

Didn't id get the memo?

Are you serious?

I would bet my ass that they will release some multiplayer game a year or so after Rage

Now that I think about it, Valve did release Deathmatch seperately from Half-Life 2 singleplayer back then. Hmmm

hmm, i think that was... the best gameplay trailer i've seen this year. i don't even know why, but i just loved it.

game just looks really goddamn good. IF it truly looks like that and runs at 60fps on consoles, it will completely melt my brain.

oh hey look an fps with more than 2 weapons.

the graphics is gorgeous, but so far Ai wise its looks like Doom charge and attack

The environments look nice, but the megatexture tech obviously imposes major limitations. A real-time day/night cycle would have been great, and more dynamism in the environment. The big monster hitting the static car looked wrong. So in some ways it looks great, but in others not so much.

Still looking forward to see more of the game.

looks very solid visually. again, i have to agree with others about the weapon models. i'm just not crazy about the design choices there. ai doesn't look great, but that isn't a deal breaker in a game like this. i also got a camera on a stick feel from the player movemment. after playing crysis 2 that really stands out in games to me now.

i think rage looks cool, but i'm not blown away by it by any means.

Still interested, but the last 2 Rage videos have really turned me off. The weapons lack punch and the enemies fall to the ground with no sense of weight or mass. And why the hell do video game rocket launchers no longer = gibs? Apparently, even id has wussed out on us.

in an fps the weapons should feel like death dealing instruments. it seems like the one thing id and many other developers struggle with. the smg with the little scope and the assault rifle just looked pathetic. the sound might as well be stop kicking sand my face.. pew pew pew..

Will get, day 1.

I think this will seem more impressive once people are playing it. 60fps with all those unique textures. I also think it will feel good, because ID games always do.

I do think the weapons could use a little more punch though.

Can someone give an example of what a megatexture "looks" like? I don't really know what I'm looking for.

It looks like a complete lack of repetition. The big advantage to megatextures is that every pixel covering every surface can be unique to that particular point. No need to share decals to conserve memory.

That was pretty incredible looking. Gameplay though i think might be an issue. The open world nature and mission mechanics are probably what will have to save it. If this is basically a Doom corridor type shooter most of the game i can see problems.

Does anyone know if they are still planning to release the huge PC version that would have some massive megatextures clocking in at around 100GB?

How long has this game been in development now? Seems like for fucking ever that we saw the reveal teaser/trailer...

Edit: Around 7 years? Damn...

I don't think it's been that long. It hasn't even been 7 years since Doom 3 came out.
And IIRC they started a new game after Doom 3 that got scrapped and then they started making Rage. So by my estimate, they started on it about 5.5 years ago.
Id is a small developer. I think they only have like 15-20 employees.

I personally think the graphics and art style look PHENOMENAL. Looks prettier than Crysis 2 to me. Even if the lighting is "technically" less impressive. The scale looks great too.

I will say though, still unsure on gameplay. Shooting and hit reactions look unrefined, some of the animations are janky, sniper and boomerang just look/feel weird and the big enemy gave little to no feedback when getting hit. Couldn't even tell if the shotty was doing anything.

Beautiful visuals, ho hum gameplay.

One huge texture(128000×128000 pixels) over the terrain instead of tiling smaller textures(one rock, a bit of grass, some mud) over the world. The giant ass file is loaded and streamed anyways so there is no penalty for the onscreen or the whole level being unique.

Love the Borderlands feel. That game was amazing and this will be too!

The openworldness is something that FPS's needs more of.

Looks really really bad. Really boring. It's "open world" but it looks like a snorefest. So far. Hopefully it's just a bad video.

About as boring as a Boards of Canada song. Zing!

Joking. Can't belive someone with such good taste in music can hate on RAGE. We shall see how it ultimately pans out, but I'm betting on this game bringing the goods.

Now that's more fucking like it - just seeing straight-up gameplay makes it look so much better than all of the cinematic shit they've done in the past.

My dick is mad hard right now. Love the way the world looks. Love the way the enemies can interact with said world. Love the weapons.

I'm ready.

Not even trying to be a wise guy here. I watched it at work twice and the game looks pretty much black & white besides the blood and slime. I'm hoping it's just my computer as the screen is a little dark.

Looks really cool. I can't wait to finally play an id Software game again. It has been 7 long years since Doom 3.

Same here. And I'm probably one of three in the world who actually enjoyed Doom 3 more than Half-Life 2 on release.

While I'll be getting this on PC, I'm very curious to see how the 360 version looks in person.

Part of the gameplay video looks identical to Fallout 3, shots fired at Bethesda: "this is how you do a subway station!".

Also: I had not heard of this game, saw it advertised on The Walking Dead last week, watched video today WOW! It's a shame I wont be able to play the superior PC version.

While I did enjoy HL2 more than Doom 3, Doom 3 on PC with the co-op mods that came out later on where easily one of my favorite gaming experiences. My friend and I had so much fun. <3 Id.

I've read over 100 posts, so sorry if it's been mentioned, but has game length been established or estimated? If this game is long as fuck with a bazillion missions (ala FO3) I'll be infinitely more interested than if it's standard fare 6-10 hours.

I think you'll find it somewhere in the middle. This isn't a huge, open world, mission-collectathon RPG like Fallout 3, but it's not a linear 5 hour Call of Duty campaign.

I can't imagine it being short with it having a open world design.
Even Doom 3, a linear corridor shooter, still clocked in around 8-10 hours on he first playthrough.

Who wants a boring game which lasts 1000 hours long like Fallout 3?

Fuck that shit.

I think it looks pretty good. Not the type of game that demos well, especially in a gameplay trailer directed at CoD fans. STALKER is an amazing experience, but a gameplay trailer would look pretty boring to most people. You have to play it, immerse yourself in the world, and get really into it.

A few issues back, in PC Gamer, Tim Willits said the singleplayer will last around 16 hours or so.

I really enjoyed Doom 3, but better than HL2? I personally don't think so.

Rage is looking amazing though. I was thinking it was looking too much along the lines of what Borderlands was doing. After more gameplay videos I get a total different feel for it and really digging it.
It seems like a lot of games are pulling from the "post-apocalyptic" setting these days, I still want to see more with this Steam-punk/Mad Max/Heavy-Metal feel. It's such a rich universe that I think should be used more.

Watched the vid a couple of times now

First time I was a bit indifferent

2nd time, I got psyched!

Things I loved:

- Yay FPS hip shooting. Piss off ironsights
- Amazing art design
- melts my mind thinking this runs 60fps on a console. In IDTech5 we trust!
- weapons look/animate awesome, though they could sound a bit more ..fierce!
- Vehicle traversal looks the opposite of Borderlands IE: it isn't complete shit

So yeah, September can't come soon enough. Probably my most anticipated FPS experience next to Deus Ex.

I'm another one of those three. I love the flow of the game. It goes from anticipation immediately to you running around, dodging shit and trying to not get overwhelmed. It was especially satisfying later in the game. And the hell level was mind-blowing at the time. HL2's action gameplay wasn't intense, really, aside from a few moments. It was helped a lot by the physics gun, but I still enjoyed the speed of Doom 3's combat more.

It looks fun but it really is a shame that it is not using real lighting.
Yeah, that's odd, especially since IIRC Doom 3 used some sort of dynamic lighting.

It's exactly what the name implies. One enormous (up to 128000×128000 pixels) texture file, in which there's stored everything. The GPU streams chunks of texture on the fly, depending on what you see in-game.

The megatexture is archived. For a 50GB megatexture file, the archive would be around 9GB.

There is no way that Rage (which is a FPS) can be as long as FO3 (which is an RPG). RPGs are long by definition :D
