Rage new screens and "release window" (lol)

Those are some damn positive impressions. Getting kinda hyped for this. The Zelda comparisons are pretty interesting. :P Too bad it's 2011, it seems so far away.

He's right.

David Cage said that.

Any word on differences between the PC and console version, Surely someone like Carmack would want to push some boundaries on the PC?

The usual no doubt(higher-res textures and shadows). RAGE is a console-centric multiplatform game. Carmack said that all three versions will look roughly the same.

/underwhelmed.

/again.

Also I still don't understand the graphics hype this game gets. I'm way too lazy, but if someone could do some gears2/uncharted2/rage comparisons would be much appreciated. In my mind both those games easily look much better than this.

Edit: And COD4. And COD4 2. Hell i'll even throw in KZ2 for good measure.

How about we don't do that. Thanks.

It runs at twice the framerate of all those games, except the Call of Duty games. But even then Rage renders at full 1280x720, while COD only does 1024x600, a 33% reduction in pixels.

I think the real show of this game, like most 60fps games, is going to be when its seen in motion. If the animation is as good as they're saying, and the environments are truly as diverse as is said, then it'll be really obvious.

I'm sure there is a reason that basically every single preview says the game looks fuckshitamazing.

bubububu no real time shadows!

60fps(or higher) makes everything better.

With megatexture they should be the same resolution across the board, compression may differ based on storage media.

Development on Rage is going well across all our platforms. One of the great things about the technology, when John started to develop it, he knew it was going to be a multi-platform title so instead of taking old technology and trying to get the PS3 to work with it for instance, he was able to make decisions that made it easier for that to happen. All of the assets, all of the textures, models, maps, animations, sounds, all that is identical across all the platforms. The game logic, the kernel of the core of the game is the same, the big difference you'll find is the render paths because each of these systems have different video cards. So we have a great build server that allows us to make builds for all the different platforms. The biggest challenges we face moving forward is the unique Live or PSN type experiences that we need to do for all the platforms. That's really where you'll find the biggest differences for the game.

The big take away from this is the programming paradigm they're using for cross platform development. It sort of mirrors the Criterion model where the only major difference is the platform specific managerial code that controls the execution. Also, according to Tim there should be no discernible visual differences between the different platforms because they're all using the exact same assets. Of, course, there may be different post processing techniques applied (hopefully they're going to apply SPU AA on the PS3 version).

Unless the game have day and night settings I give a rats ass about baked shadows or whatever. As long as it looks good right?

Mirror's Edge looks great and it has baked lighting.

Read the article in the op on PS3 performance.

Good to hear it is now up to 60fps. I know that was always the goal. Last word I remember hearing PS3 was 20-30fps behind. Apparently the rasterizer on the PS3 hw is slow in comparison. They had to rebuild and optimize that portion of the graphics engine for PS3. Everyone has to appreciate id's dedication to their craft. Simultaneous 60fps release on four platforms. The game graphics and concept looks pretty awesome to me.

lets hope so....im sick of the newer console to pc efforts that rape my cpu and ignore my gpu.
I for one like games that rape my CPU (*misses the days when you didn't need any GPU*).

Would be great if IW/Respawn could use this tech for their next game. 60fps and running at 720p, plus already up and running across all platforms. Too bad Rage isn't coming this year. :(

Yep. I remember that. The wars between UT and Q3 fans were massive, and even though I was firmly on the Q3 side UT definitely had the upper hand with AI. Which is why the raving about A.I from the Rage demo surprised me.

That always amused me, UT fans bragging about their bots relative to Quake. :lol

It's like, that's nice, now let me go back to fragging actual humans in a vastly superior game.
