"Ramza... What did you get?"

Definitely Lost Oddyssey. Very, very emotional. Can't watch it without ever tearing up. Loved it so much, I used to go back and fight the final boss just so I could see the ending again.

FFXV.

I legit thought they would bring
back Luna
and somehow make it all work in the end. A true waste
of a character that may have been a good love story had they fleshed her story out a bit
so it didn't really hit me.

But that ending...oh man. Similar feels to FF X.

In fact for me the story ended with such absolution that I don't even feel like watching anything about FF XV anymore because
they're dead
so what's the point in feeling emotionally invested in that again?

You'll be happy to know that Gladio, Prompto, and Ignis lived.

The ending story of FFT didn't hit me the hardest but it was kinda the most poetic.

It's only fitting Ramza got away with his sister alive, the one thing Delita didn't do when he actually could. I couldn't imagine Delita's reaction if he knew about this.

It's a really subtle ending too, which makes it all the better. Delita spent a huge chunk of his life devoted to never being used, striving always to be the one that uses. He achieved this and all his dreams came true. Yet the one person he probably loved, stabbed him.

Taken one way, he stabs her back out of shock of the betrayal. Not realizing she was right. Taken another, he was there to kill her anyways, she just caught on and beat him to the punch. I feel like there's so much room for interpretation in that scene, but either way his lamentation is of his life. He got what he wanted, but the cycle of ruler and ruled still existed - the only difference was that he was now at the top. He achieved his goal of being free and not being used, but ultimately ends up just as trapped as he always had been. He knows Ramza is probably well and truly free, ironic considering that Ramza was the one born of nobility.

Just, such a great ending really.

I only wish there was more character resolution. Like, even if Ramza and his sister traipse around the world having adventures, I want to know what happened to Agrias, Mustadio, T.G. Cid, et all. If there was one flaw to be mentioned in the game it would be how those characters fell out of the plot once they joined your team.

This is maybe cheating, but the end (entirety) of Turnabout Goodbyes from the first Phoenix Wright. I just played it for the first time a little while ago and immediately understood why the series is as big as it is.
Edgeworth: "Want to switch, Wright?"

Undertale, and the ending I left with, was really good.
"You are wracked with a perverted sentimentality."

This is probably my favorite. What a masterpiece.

For some reason or other everytime I watch the ending of FF7 with the livestream coming out to save the day I always tear up. I think its a combination of the joy I had when I played it as a kid and better understanding now that Aeris really did save everyone, such a beautiful moment.

For me it's definitely the end of Ace Attorney 3.

"The only time a lawyer can cry is when it's all over."

And then the tears hit. And it's so fucking good how it all comes down. I can replay it over and over, and it still hits with the same impact for me.

The endings of Trails of Cold Steel and Trails in the Sky SC are way up there too in terms of my sentimentality for them.

You'll be happy to know that Gladio, Prompto, and Ignis lived.

Yea but
without Nocits
the "brotherhood" will never be the same :(

And damn his dad knew what would happen in the end! What tragedy all around. If I'm not mistaken pretty much everybody who was royalty
died
, right? Sucks to rule that kingdom. Time for democracy!

Nier ending B, Drakengard 3 ending D, Nier Automata ending
E
.

I hope reviewers make it to that last one as its very existence will probably bump up the score of any reviews by a few points. I think I liked Gravity Rush 2 about as much as Nier Automata, and I'll probably like Zelda more after it comes out, but that ending of Automata will probably be my favorite individual moment of any game this year.

Another World, i was 9 years old and was fuckin bawling like a little kid (which i was) at that ending.

Huh - I consider myself one of the biggest Another World fans on earth (having no way of verifying that), but i don't think I've ever come across someone being super emotionally affected by the ending. Was it just the alien helping Lester? It's an awesome cliffhanger for sure but it never made me feel sad. And I'm a huge fucking baby for endings

Also, did you ever go on to play Heart of the Alien? I waited years and years to be able to try it - only to find out it's a train wreck with no input from Eric Chahi :(

Persona 3.
I've never been that sad for a player avatar in a game lol. And that scene at the roof with Aigis, still makes me tear up.

FFX and Crisis Core were also pretty hard-hitting (Crisis Core is somewhat cheesy as fuck, but that culmination with the music and the HUD glitching out was heart wrenching)

There's endings that had impact and stuck with me for longer periods of time, yet I'm confident that SOMA's ending is the most honest answer I can give. I imagine I'll likely still find it just as haunting several years from now.

Spec Ops the Line.
MGS3.
Shadow of the Colossus.

All games that made you rethink your experiences and actions made throughout the game.

Edit - Beaten, so here's another one I haven't seen mentioned:

For all the flaws of 358/2 Days, the ending is one of the most touching in the Kingdom Heart series.

Oof. I'd say Last of Us' ending but BioShock Infinite's is a multi-partner.

Elizabeth consoles Songbird as she crushes him under the depth of the sea

You're transported to Rapture with no indication that the series connected except thematically

You're forced to accept split timelines as well your various misdeeds across all of them

You're drowned by your daughter, undoing her existence

For me it was almost Dead Space 2 but it didn't stick the landing.
Isaac just sitting on the step, surrounded by people and monsters he has killed, the station collapsing around him accepting his death was a very moving ending.

But then he gets saved at the last minute and everything is fine and the ending is suddenly shit.

No indication they were connected? Only if you skipped a lot of the audiologs and such. Rapture is referenced a few times throughout that game very overtly.

Yeah it's an open ending, but the my 9 year old self interpreted it as
Lester dying
. Hence the emotional reaction.

Nope never played that game, supposed to be a direct sequel right? A game that I did play and very much liked was Heart of Darkness, so maybe Eric Chahi moving on was for the better. Tho I wonder how a modern day take on Another World would turn out.

Metal Gear Solid 3
Red Dead Redemption
SOMA

Just thinking about the endings to these games takes me back to the very strong feelings I have about them. I tried to think of some more games to add to this list, but these are by far the ones that stood out. I really don't want to say anymore because it worth experiencing these completely blind.

Two things from TW3 really stuck with me -

Finding Citi, finally, was an amazing moment. I was basically punching the air.

Secondly, you know she isn't dead but when she is revealed as a Witcher herself.

I think this game is my GOAT.

FFXV's ending fucking destroyed me.

Sure, it wasn't just the game, but a culmination of a really fucking rough year emotionally.

And I think it might be the best use of the main Final Fantasy theme since FFVIII's ending.
