Rapidshare begins terminating accounts used for piracy

There's better software and services out there that'll let you back up and share crap with your friends, even for free.

Point remains that you're just bitter because you wanted to download something and you had to wait and had to enter a captcha to download it. By the time you did that you'd still be cursing at your client and urging it to connect to a seed and not just peers.

Oh no, I have proper sources where I can max my connection at 5-6 mb/s, for free. Rapidshit is a joke amongst most people and I jump at every chance to take digs at it - I also have a hard time understanding, why the hell people would use it.

Well congratulations to you and your proper sources which you are blessed with. Unfortunately not everyone has these amazingly, blazingly fast sources and would have to resort to other measures. Secondly, yes, yes, we get it, you're calling it Rapidshit. I think it's a pun isn't it, cause it's shit, amirite? Keep up the good work. Thirdly, if you've got these fantastic sources and you've never had to use this so-called 'Rapidshit' then why are you arguing against it with all your fury? You don't think there will be a replacement? It would take approximately 10 seconds for everyone to switch to MegaShitload (or whatever you'll smartly be calling it) which, in reality is more cumbersome and slower than RS.

Besides, the only reason RS became shit for non-subscribers is because everywhere you looked you'd find exploits and hacks to be able to unlimitedly download without a premium account using some scripts or whatnot. And they retaliated with obsessive CAPTCHAS and ridiculous waiting times. So, in reality the reason RS is RShit is because of the cheapness of people who are unwilling to pay. In real life, the only people I have heard say anything against it are cheapskates*. I have yet to meet a person (IRL) who I've lent my account to, or has pay for a premium account who wasn't instantly dependent on it.
 
The only place I hear of people using FTP replacement sites for porn is GAF. Everyone else I know uses them for music blogs.

I actually have a rapidshare account, its my backup to my 3d/2d work done on my pc. So you can change your thread title to:

Rapidshare terminates all account except 1


On another note A friend told me I can sign up to a service called drive A or something and have 40gb of storage free. I might jump over to them :O

rapidshare is awesome and widely used. only stupid people use shitty services like sendspace, depositfiles and so on... although hotfile is even better, faster download speeds. dont hate the service just because you're too cheap to pay a few dollars to use it.

Just emailed Rapidshare myself and this is indeed a load of bullshit. It's account phishing, nothing more. The comments under the article confirm it, too. That is some amazing investigative journalism from torrent freak, right there. :lol They probably cost Rapidshare a lot of money in cancelled accounts because of the story.

Seriously, you can say what you want about RS, but there's nothing that is so widely used than this. Ok it has a download limit, but come on, 5GB is still a lot and it adds up each day.

There aren't really any good alternatives to RS other than torrents and megaupload. But they still suck in comparison with RS.

Or maybe I just don't know any good alternatives.

Sometimes Rapidshare accounts are hacked(or Phished, if you will) and you get an email supposedly from Rapidshare, but actually from whatever Phishing group you were hacked by, telling you that your account has been banned because of illegal use etc. It all looks very legit but it's just a scam. It happened to me once about a year ago. A quick email to Rapidshare with my account details and I had my account back within minutes.

It has been happening a lot lately and it seems TorrentFreak caught wind of it and posted the story without doing any research into the story whatsoever.
 
Rapidshare is terrible as a free service, but I have no complaints as a premium user. I'm used to getting an episode of a show within 2 minutes. Unfortunately due to new piracy laws in my part of the world, using torrents for anything is risky.

Rapidshit is fucking terrible. Megaupload is infinitely better, and you don't even have to pay for it (unless you want the experience to be even better). On a good day, I can download a 500mb file in minutes or less, and that's with a free account. If I used Rapidshare, more like a couple of hours -- oh wait, I can't even download a 500mb file in the first place. :lol
 
Megaupload is vastly better than Rapidshare for non-subscribers. I get about 100KB/s from Rapidshare, and usually between 1 and 2MB/s from Megaupload. Exactly what the download limits for Megaupload are seems to vary, but I typically have no problem downloading several gigs in the span of a couple of hours.

Anyway, most hosts are OK as long as you use something like JDownloader. Just queue the files up and do something else while it downloads. I'm rarely in a hurry to watch my porn.

Downloading at 1.2 Mbit via torrents sure sucks compared to downloading at ~300 kbps (with a download that keeps dropping in and out to boot) from RS. Hell, even Mediafire makes RS look archaic.

Torrents are great for new stuff, but not so great after people stop seeding or if you're worried about getting threatening mails in your inbox. Stuff like Rapidshare links can often live for several years though, at least the things I download. Also, neither the person from whom the file originated nor the downloaders need to do any uploading. So yeah, there are plenty of reasons why one might prefer direct downloads, or use both.
 
The few times that I wanted to use Rapidshare, I always get, but really, always, at any time of the day at any moment, a message telling me that "at this moment there are to many people from your country using our service. Try again later".



So even if I wanted to use the site for (il)legal stuff, I've never gotten the chance anyway. :lol
 
none of this quick media hosting sites will ever stop piracy, unless they all shut down and are prohibited. There are a ridiculous amount of them and it's so easy to upload anonymously.

I caved in and bought trafficshare; an extra 500GB.

So after the 5GB is up for the day it'll just keep going and deduct from the 500GB pool.

lol, I've bought 1.5TB worth of trafficshare so far.

People who obsess over HD stuff make me laugh. The only thing that makes a difference is the aspect ratio, otherwise your good old compressed XviD videos work just fine. Even on a 52" HDTV, I thought they look just fine. And that's precisely why HD penetration is still low as heck: most people, myself included, don't give a shit about seeing the pores on people's skins on TV shows or movies or whatever.

Well, a 350MB xvid will look way worse then a 25GB Blu-ray. But to download 25 GB files.... you probably won't see a difference if you get the 4GB mkv, unless you have a 1000" screen at home.

Rapidshare servers are based in a country that doesn't give a shit about copyright laws. RS and yousendit both started up at the same time. I use to pay for a sub because that was the pirate's choice of uploading porn and music.
