Rare Replay officially announced - $30 and available August 4, 2015

Xbone primary demographic = Call of BattleHaloGears dude bros? Hehe

Seriously tho, this looks like a good pack of old ports. I'll pick it up when it goes on sale for $15 or less.

Aren't they giving you $15 back if you pre-order thru the Microsoft store and have Bing rewards? I thought I read that somewhere.

Jet Force Gemini patch coming to give it modern, "Gears of War" style control scheme! Raaaaad

I was worried that playing Jet Force Gemini again might diminish my memory of it, but the gameplay with the new control scheme actually looks great. It's also very cool that Rare thought to include widescreen support way back when they originally released the game.

Hopefully the right stick can be used to aim then. The manual at the moment has the right stick as inventory selection so that'll be great, hopefully that patch will arrive shortly after launch.

It's through Xbox rewards. Also you can get $10 taken off of the preorder if you do the Golden Crisps promotion.

With that discount and the $15 back, Rare Replay might as well be five bucks.

this is exactly what i've been wondering since this collection was announced. this is the game i'm looking forward to replaying the most on this collection, so this is awesome news.

that soundtrack...

I think this is a thing for 'younger' (post 1995-2000?) gamers? I've been gaming since the dark ages and framerate drops FPS, slowdown and all that jazz just don't bother me.

I guess it's the difference between being born into a world which had telephones and a world which had the Internet . . .

Not sure if I agree - console and arcade games had flawless framerates before the advent of 3d games (to be more precise even most 3d arcade games had flawless framerates). So in my view, we might finally get back to the point where solid 60 fps (or at least 30) are the norm and not the exception.

Depending on the genre, having an inconsistent framerate puts a hard limit on the skill ceiling (shoot'em ups, fighter games, platformers, fps'es, sports games and agility puzzlers like Tetris). So pretty much every classic genre benefits greatly from a consistently high frame rate.

As far as I can see, bad framerates became acceptable with the rise of RPGs, simulators and strategy games, since they rely more on the player's strategy than ultrafast reflexes (edit: plus I guess the novelty factor of 3d also made all the shortcomings more acceptable). Modern action games tend to get away with bad framerates because they are way easier than their predecessors (remember the old games were extremly short with mostly so savegames, so they had to stretch the play time by being rock hard).

From the stream earlier, it seems like that N64 logo part was completely cut out. I think it went straight to the start screen.

Also, the framerates for the N64 games they showed (Blast Corps, Conker, Jet Force Gemini) looked way smoother than the original N64 versions. It was weird seeing things blow up in Jet Force Gemini without a bunch of framerate issues.

Here's the stream archive: http://www.twitch.tv/expertzone_community/v/8868952

Conker's Bad Fur Day starts around 49 minutes in. Blast Corps is at 37:40, and Jet Force Gemini at 1:10:35.

Is there something special I need to do to watch this on an iPhone?

When I click on the video I get a link error.

Just in from the stream - they are aware of the demand of extra titles being added for DLC at a later date, and they're discussing it internally!

Regarding the JFG patch, was there any mention of a release date for it? Maybe a day one patch?
It won't be a day 1 patch - they said they don't have a release date yet because they want to take their time to make sure the new control scheme doesn't feel half-baked. They were just running a dev build while showing it off on the stream - not the final build.

Awesome!!

Here's hoping for Conker Live & Reloaded and some of their GB/GBC/GBA games, but I'll take pretty much anything. Glad they're thinking about it.

I wanted to play through JFG first, but I'll go with Blast Corps now and hope the patch is soon.

I really want them to do Live & Reloaded. If its a lot of work because of Xbox Live etc, I am willing to pay a bit more to have that done separately as I never got a chance to play it.

It started 53 minutes ago, you didn't miss to much, just clarifications.

Wow, GBTG still looks amazing to me.

Also all the games are on the disc, however, it will need a day 1 activation via online.

After that you'll be able to play everything offline.

Is this true? If I buy the disc I cannot play the games without a day one online activation?

Be great if they could get the rights to have Goldeneye if there is ever was another game#

Also did they mention at all if theres a way to have the CRT shader but without the screen curve??

I wondered how they got an Xbox game running, pleased they went to the effort of a port but was hoping for Xbox emulation down the road.

They said on the stream that the OG Xbox and Xbox One's similar architectures made it relatively easy to port it to XBO

Makes me hopeful that we might get a remastered version of Conker L&R at some point.

WTF? Why do they try so hard tomake te retail version worthless :(?

Damn they had a pool of 120 games and whittled it down to 30, i wounder if there'll be a Rare Replay Volume 2 next year

There's not really a lot of "big" games left to put in another volume, basically just Live & Reloaded, Kinect Sports, and maybe the SNES KI as the marquee titles. DLC would be a smarter route.

Strange that dual analog controls for Jet Force Gemini is coming in a later update, but everything else I'm completely on board for!! This collection will steal so many hours away from other things.

Looking at the list of games Rare (and Ultimate) made, it looks like a lot of that 120 list they are referencing includes a lot of games that they clearly wouldn't have been able to include to begin with.

Only way that they'd be able to fill out another collection of this scope would be to really scrape the bottom of the barrel of their Spectrum, NES, and Gameboy games.

Then why would you need an activation instead of just an up-to-date OS?
Beats me.

Did they explain or show how any references to Nintendo were removed? I'm mostly curious about the intro cutscene for Conker's Bad Fur Day. I wonder if they just cut it out entirely.

If the stream from yesterday (I haven't seen today's) is anything to go by, it looks to be cut.

There's a tiny part of me that hopes "Original Xbox Emulation" is a phrase we hear next week.

Same, that would be amazing!!!

Apparently, due to MS' contract with NVidia they'd have to pay a not-insignificant licensing fee with every emulator shipped; probably got real sick of that during the 360's lifetime.

It seems to only be for the Xbox 360 games. Might have to do something with the backwards compatibility.
Still disappointing to hear. : / The collection sounds so amazing that I won't let this keep me from getting the game, but it would have been preferable if everything was offline enabled pre-patch/activation.

Well I'm guessing many of those 120 games are licensed things? Rare developed alot of licensed content during the NES/SNES era. I'm guessing anything including Double Dragon is out. All the gameshow games (Wheel of fortune, etc.) are out, etc. And who would really want to play Taboo?

The exclusion of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is a bit puzzling though. It was so awesome!
