Rare Replay pre-order up, launch trailer

I dont know. Is it 30 classic Rare games or 29 with one repeat? Murky waters for me. I feel like something more unique could have been included instead.

Theres no murky water. Its complaining for the sake of it.

Its backwards compatible, which means it was done via the emulation on the console, it took little to no effort for Rare to include it and it was still one of their big games on the Xbox 360. Why would they not include it? People like Viva Piñata, let them play both if they choose.

Theres 30 games in the bundle, plenty of unique stuff, adding another game would require more work and maybe that would result in a delay or something, its perfectly fine as it is.

It's redundant. Its closer to having the N64 version of Perfect Dark but also including the XBLA remake than it is having the N64 version of Conker and the Xbox version as well. The latter I could support because there are some rather huge differences between the two (especially on the multiplayer side of things) whereas the former just seems... a little strange?

Nothing wrong with choice. I just feel the collection would have been better served without two Pinata games. Hell, throw in that party one nobody liked instead.

How will multiplayer work for Perfect Dark Zero in Rare Replay? If it is the same game as the 360 version will you be able to play players that have the 360 version or is it just Xbox One players. Also will this version have the DLC maps. I already own the DLC maps from 360 but I wonder if they are included in Rare Replay.

You can play 360 kids. Ive done it through BC. it has all the dlc maps.

Not a Rare game though.

WHen you load the game from a disc, what happens? Will you get a Rare Replay screen with all the games or will all the games be separate?

My childhood in one disc.
btw, why they didn't include Live and Reloaded? (not instead of 64 but both).

Because it censored, they only wanted to do one for now I think.

Although I wonder if it also would have been a pain due to OG Xbox Live being turned off too, perhaps they will add L&R as DLC and give it the ghoulies treatment (1080/60)

Does the digital version just give you each game individually? Or are they all under one app?

9 games are played through backwards compat so they have their own tile. The other 21 are inside the Rare Replay app.

  • Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise
  • Perfect Dark Zero
  • Jetpac Refuelled
  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Perfect Dark
  • Banjo-Tooie
  • Viva Pinata
  • Kameo: Elements of Power
  • Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

EDIT: You can still launch these nine titles from inside Rare Replay too, they are just being emulated.

Yeah, that's really disappointing, and bizarre since the remake was an Xbox exclusive. Live and Reloaded would have made this a day one purchase for me. As it, you can't argue it's an amazing value but I've already played the hell out of the 360 games and I have enough of a backlog without adding a ton of old stuff.

Is that cereal deal still active?

You have the option to launch these games within Rare Replay as well.

Oh can you? I would hope it works that way.

This is quickest one I could find, from Nerd Reactor:

Luckily, the Rare team was on hand with a playable build of the Rare Replay at the Microsoft booth. The build had about ten playable games to select from including Battletoads, Jetpac, Banjo-Kazzoie, Perfect Dark and Kameo. The select menu transition was fast and smooth as you switch between game to game. Rare also added new artwork for each game’s selectable menu, and a new mode called “snapshot challenges.” Exiting a game takes a bit longer as you have to hold the Xbox One menu button, and after a few seconds you are taken back to the selectable menu. I was also informed that if you leave the game via the menu button, your game is saved at the point you left, so the next time you start the game, you will start off from that point.

I'm so excited. Every single game besides Nuts and Bolts is a new experience. I haven't played the original Banjo's since I was a kid. Completely forgot everything about them. Plus I haven't finished Nuts and Bolts yet, even after various attempts.

It will be done this time. I will finish Nuts and Bolts.

I'm tempted to pull the trigger on this for the n64 games. Are they running 6O frames 1O8Op or will they look like they did on n64

We really don't know yet for Conker, Blast Corps, or Jet Force Gemini. They do seem to have been upscaled. Banjo-Kazooie, Tooie, and Perfect Dark are the XBLA versions.

They've been skittish on saying anything regarding this, so I'm expecting just straight ports.

I think there was a little bit shown of Jet Force Gemini, though, and it had *some* work done.

Basically, we don't know yet, which usually means expect straight ports, same framerate and all.

Playing Jet Force Gemini first. Need to see if holds up as well as I remember it.

If the frame-rate isn't dire like it was on N64, and the dual-stick controls are done well, gonna be sweet to go bug-stomping again. LOVE THAT GAME.

Except the Tribals. FFS.

I suppose they didn't want to implement the online mode to X1, neither to ship an incomplete game. Hope they to update it later like ODST.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.

Anyone decide where they're gonna start?

I've decided from the N64 era to the 360.

Then give the others try.

Jet Force Gemini for me since I never finished it on N64. Of course it depends if it runs well. Hopefully it's a steady 30fps.

In what universe are we expecting the N64 games to run as they originally did? Rare would get so much shit for that.
I mean I know we dont know, but... Come on.

In the universe where this is a collection of 30 games, and they haven't been clear on it.

I think it's reasonable to keep expectations in check.

Indeed.

One would hope, given the massive difference in tech capability, that the code allows for brute-forcing framerates to decent levels. JFG used to collapse in big fights.
