Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Official Thread

i just recently picked this title up. From someone who normally plays fps and sports games, i was blown away. It looks childish at first but that becomes part of the appeal. The games humor and action were awesome. I luv the game and once i beat it i will be looking for the psp and ps2 ratchet games to play.

Ratchet wallpaper I made last night.

awesome! thanks! my new wallpaper!

Only a few months into my PS3 this is the first game i picked up. i already own a 360 and was blown away by the "graphics" not sure if its the textures, the colors or what but it is a very visually apealling game. so much going on at once and yet so sharp. Never play a rachet game before but am really enjoying this one.

I played the PSP Ratchet game before this, and hated it. The thing was stiff, ugly, and boring. I downloaded the demo for R&C Future, though, and thought it was OK, and the game was so hyped on this baord, that I gave the full game a chance when I saw it for cheap. Thank you GAF!

If I go back and play the old PS2 Ratchet games, will I hate them as much as Size Matters, or love them as much as Tools of Destruction?

What the hell are you talking about? Those shots look amazing.

Sorry, but blurry-messed up tone cellphone shots are not flattering especially since there are WAY better caps throughout the thread.

I went to try the older games after ToD, and I was dissappointed.

Not that they weren't good, it just feels like ToD was an evolution of those titles, and so the older ones felt like they were missing something.

Mind you, I only tried the PSP one, and the first PS2 one, so maybe the other two PS2 games (and the spin-off) were better.

PS3 Ratchet >>> PS2 Ratchets >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PSP Ratchets

So yeah, you'll love them too :)

Dude. You're not flattering the game at all. Great that you're enthusiastic, but seriously, stuff like that gets recycled as trolling material.

Uh, not everyone posts gameplay shots for the purpose of adding ammo dumps to the console war. Let him post whatever the hell he wants to post.

The first one is a very barren, basic experience compared to Going Commando, which in my mind is the best in the series by far. There's an enormous leap between R&C and GC.

lol @ high and mighty uncharted warrior

hey at least OUR game can maintain a good framerate and not tear constantly

also a lot of the texture work in Ratchet blows Uncharted out of the water, seriously

I didn't have a lot of tearing nor bad framerate in Uncharted. And the textures in Uncharted are so far beyond R&C's that it's not even debatable IMHO.

I don't think R&C:ToD looks as good as people make it out to be to be honest. Extremely fun game though!

R&C: TOD is the only game I've completed this gen. Finished it a few months ago and can't wait for the next R&C installment. If that turns out to be booty or a full blown game... don't really care. Production values like these are to be lauded.

I'm not saying they're doing it on purpose, I'm just saying people love to find the lowest quality images they can, then they use them as the defacto-standard as to what the game really looks like. It's annoying actually. Look at the GT5 thread. When people try to slam that game, what do they use? The shittiest pics they can ever find and say that's what the game really looks like.

Then let them. Anyone who slams TOD for supposedly having poor graphics immediately certifies him or herself as a dumbass royale and therefore perfectly ok to mock and make fun of. It's when this shit starts to creep into carefree posting of game media like this that it becomes a problem.

how is the rumble in this game?

I heard it felt tacked on unlike Uncharted
ehhh, I want to say it was good, but my memory can't quite recall....But I remember Uncharted's being amazing which I played before this game so take that as you will.

Rumble is sparing... flying and swimming both use it, among some other things, but shooting and being shot, or falling, don't. I wish the devs had been a bit more liberal, but then even on the PS2, games didn't seem to use rumble as much as the XBOX, don't know why.

So I picked up this game yesterday. Very fun. This is my second Ratchet game after part 3 (or third if you count Deadlocked, I don't) and I'm very much enjoying the adventure.

The weapons upgrades...
Rhyno IV >=O

Well, I'm almost finished with the game. Aside from a pretty low level of difficulty throughout, I think this game is a blast. Really entertaining, and the level of animation and effects are mindblowing. Also, generally speaking, this is one of the most gorgeous games I've seen so far this generation. The different locales are artistically varied, with just the right touches to bring each one to life.

Coming from someone who tried to get into this series before and couldn't, I can't say enough good things about Tools of Destruction. Just an all around thrill ride. Also, I love the weapons. I use every one of them liberally, which is something I never figured I'd do.

Damn you Speevy. I was hoping the bump was for some news on the DLC.

Oh well, good to see your enjoying it. I feel the same. Game's pretty easy but fun as hell. Loads of different areas, all look pretty, awesome animations and pretty good storyline.

I'll be buying Quest for Booty for sure.

I finally just finished beating this, I don't know what took me so long to finish it but I enjoyed the hell out of this. It is the first Ratchet and Clank game that I have played and I've got to say it was damn amazing. I plan on definetly playing again anytime now. I can't wait for some more Ratchet and Clank! :)

If you enjoyed this game, go ahead and play Going Commando, and then Up Your Arsenal. Skip the first and Deadlocked.

You lose the sheen but it's just as good (GC is better imo), they aren't like the PSP one.

Yeah, it's a really amazing game. I can't believe so many people missed it.

Yep, it's a shame.

I don't have a PS2, and the PS3 is a 40 GB, so I can't play them :(

You got fucked.

:lol It's true, I've regretted getting the 40 GB so many times, I should have just gotten the 80 GB because there are so many PS2 games that I've wanted to play for the first time or just play again.

Wait, WHAT?! Ratchet was my 2007 GOTY and I really want more! What is this "Quest for Booty" thing? DLC?! Details!

There was a PSN release schedule leaked with "R&C : Quest for Booty" in it.

Then someone (I think it was Basch) cleverly pointed that during the Insomniac music video there was a hint towards this. Letters on a blackboard or something. Q4BDLC

Wow, can't fucking wait. Someone better create a new topic about this whenever info leaks out. I usually end up ignoring this thread :(

I finished the game last week in both normal and the other difficulty that is unlocked. That game was really good, awesome replay value for a second playthrough, and the weapons were a blast.

The only two grips i had with the game were the lighting and the ending. The lighting in the game was really bad, felt prebaked, but as some resistance 2 screenshots seem to suggest, that is going to be a thing of the past, since it looks like Imnsomniac updated their engine in a real good way.

In the case of the ending i was dissapointed because it was too short and left you pretty much in the air. Quest 4 Booty DLC cant come soon enough.

Kind of a silly bump, but I don't know if this is something I could find at GameFAQs.

I just did the rainy level with the arena in it, and I'm trying to fill out my goals. I cleared all of the arena tasks but the mission marker still doesn't highlight, am I overlooking something here?

Are you there for the first time? You come back later.

The finals armor you unlock looks really ugly, I miss the graphically beautiful closeups I was able to do, now I get this dull armor
Yeah, I don't know why Insomniac feels ready to cover up their mascot's face so often. They even made a game that required it be space-marine'd the whole time.

It's supposed to be family friendly and funny, not bad-ass.

So I just picked this up yesterday...

1. Anyone have any crashes? I've crashed three times so far.

2. Anyone ever seen any stretching verts on things? On a few levels, the exploding crates always had verts stretching out towards infinity... at first I thought they were tripwires or something, but they were in fact rendering errors.

3. Wasn't there supposed to be an update for this to add rumble?

Despite the above and the "no room on HDD" bug, I've been enjoying the game quite a bit, though!

Vibration was set to on the entire time I've been playing it, and it's yet to rumble even a little...

Just in case I turned it off, rebooted the game, and then turned it back on, and I'm still rumbleless.

hmmm does rumble work with your other games? I bought a white DS3 (imported on JP release) and it didn't rumble. I returned it and got a black DS3 and it worked fine.

on a side note, I finally got a chance to actually play this today since it was soo damn hot. I can't believe how awesome this game is and that it took me this long to play it. I feel disappointed in myself, noted this is my first R/C game.

Got this one for 30$ almost brand new, and I don't even have a PS3 :lol . But I do plan on getting one very soon. I just know this'll be awesome so it was a must buy for this price.

So, how does this one compare to Going Commando which is considered the best in the series by many?(Played all Ratchets, and it's the best IMO too).
