Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Official Thread

Just to let everyone know the best part of the R&C games, IMO, are the second and third play-through. The first one is just a tutorial. When the bolt multiplier comes into play, and the tons of secrets, and the harder difficulty and all the cool unlockables... -sigh- I love Insomniac! :D

EDIT: Fixed my my misleading mistake :)

Okay, Ratchet and Clank is absolutely incredible. The cutscenes use the same models as the gameplay, and the animation is out of this world. It seriously looks like a CG movie almost. The cinematic direction is stunning as well. It really puts any game like this to shame. I hope the rest of the game is just as cinematic and awesome as this demo.

The game looks absolutely amazing and I've seen tons of footage online. Nothing compares to actually playing it on screen for yourself.

It runs at 60 fps and has AA so the image quality is absolutely impeccable.

For those that played the previous demo, grab this off the store. It's improved a ton, apparently. I can't notice any graphical flaws. This game is absolutely gorgeous. Seriously, Insomniac delivered...AGAIN

Can't fucking wait until this game comes out. And I'm a Ratchet virgin, too.
My download failed at 95% and said there was an error, so I have to start from scratch - thanks for making the wait easier. :lol

Multiplier before some people start saying "Oh no, why did they add multiplayer. I don't want this game now. 6.8"
I'm kidding. Thread is troll free so far

Hell, I thought the preorder demo was the shit and now I here it is better!!! I am downloading now so I will post impressions comparing it to the Disk demo I got from GS.

I am a R & C virgin as well. I have no idea why I didn't play the earlier games on PS2. I wish I had!

Any word on whether they brought back the fps halo style control scheme from UYA and Deadlocked? Or is it back to the old school style from the first two?

There is a 'gears of war/re4' over the shoulder perspective in the game.

The demo doesn't have any controller options, will this be customizable in the final game?

Every game for the most part has controller options.

The demo was awesome! I thought about just waiting to buy it later and now I just want it first day! The controls are great and I know they'll let me change the axis of the camera.

Some don't. And some don't allow you to customize everything.

One thing I loved about Resistance is that they allowed you to customize everything exactly how you wanted it, unlike Halo 3 where you have to accept their given controller layouts.

Ok invert camera controls please. I know there is the option in the final game but... had to get used to it.

Other than that. Ratchet = perfection. Thanks.

I know there's a traditional lock/strafe in the final game, but does that also auto-aim too? that's my biggest concern since the demo feels like it's kinda playing itself since it locks onto everything, no aiming required.

and there's some audio missing in the demo too right? no grinding noise, no wrench noise...im not going crazy, right?

The demo was okay. The graphics definitely look better because there are more objects on-screen, but the art style from the previous games doesn't lend itself for a massive next-gen facelift.

I just completed the demo (on my first pass) by using my wrench 90% of the time. The jump zones are cool and the fact that the entire city seems to be loaded into memory simultaneously is also impressive, but... I expected more somehow.

It simply is more of the same PS2 Ratchet and Clank, not much more.

I wont have time to play this game with all the other great games available this fall and winter.

If you enter aiming mode it works just like most shooters. I don't know what's going on with your audio though, mine was fine.

I loved the demo, in videos the grinding never looked that exciting but I loved it. The shooting seemed fun too. The crumbling walkway was awesome too. The demo was pretty damn easy but then it is the first level.

The disc demo does not have strafing. Does the download? Can't wait to play it all polished up.

Insomniac. Polishing that shit up for cell.

Holding L1 shifts the controls to 1st person and the camera goes GRAW style

Actually it is more a meta-discussion about official threadmaking
What a strange start to a thread.
Well I've been stuck at 25% for R&C and 32% for Conan for the past hour with constant error messages. Great.

Ok, the game is extremely gorgeous. However, I found the demo painfully boring. =/ I was hoping it would sell me on the game, but alas, no dice.

That said, the video reel showcases some pretty impressive sequences. There's still some hope, I suppose.

I just got a PS3 and this will probably be the first game that I buy!!!

The TGS demo's gameplay was pretty much the same as a PS2 game but I've heard the later levels get totally flippin insane and totally next gen. Can't wait!

Try playing around more with the weapons. It is the first stage of the game so it's probably tuned to a really easy difficulty.

I thought the demo was pretty good.

I've never been a big fan of the games. They're ok but I've always preferred the tougher and faster paced platforming in the Jak series. I know it's just the first level, but the platforming, especially on the rail sequences, was fairly dull. The action was fun though. Loved the weapons and the groovetron animations.

Graphics were nice at 60fps. Like Resistance it totally goes for the tons of geometry over high-res textures, which mainly works.

The jumping high up was nice, I was wish you had more vertical camera control so you can see where you will be flying to before stepping on a green thing. Overall the camera was pretty self-controlling and didn't give me much handling on it. I prefer the 3/4th angle from the back as opposed to the directly behind the guy in my games, but I couldn't really keep the camera positioned there since it would just snap back. Also L1 doesn't really snap fast enough to be an instant-camera correction. I sort of wish this was an FPV so I could enjoy the scenery like Resistance without having to fight the camera. The RE4 view works I guess, but it's weird to play for a while only in it.

Will be picking up the game day 1 going from this demo. Hope it gets a little harder in platforming.

aren't all the different region assets on the blu-ray though?

I don't know but they said it wouldn't be accessible to non-Japanese people in one of their podcasts.

Man, this demo is still at 20%. Got out of downloading it from the PSN store because i thought something was up. I did the pause and such. It's just that slow. Stop downloading everyone, let me finish.

there's only 1 gun :[. I think it's a bad demo for a good game.

Too short :(

My only issue is the camera controls. I need to invert em, and reduce the sensitivity. Might have been an option for the latter, can't remember exactly.

Have you played god of war 2 yet ? :P

i liked it a lot, and I am not big fan of these games... graphics do look good and its 60fps afterall.

but gameplay? amazing.... amazing. i suck at these games, and I found it perfectly natural.

My thoughts, exactly. As I said, the demo reel that plays when you leave it idle is very impressive.

I guess I'll rent it, just to be safe.

No no no no no no NO!!!!!!1

bad Vyse The Legend BAD! :(

p.s. any kind of loading anywhere? makes games like oblivion look like stoneage...

No loading (unless background during cutscenes). I did notice some slowdown when things got busy though.

Damn it! I fell asleep before it came out and just woke up... My download is at 23% and I'd say it's downloading at about 500kb/s right now. Can't wait! :D
