everything looks and animates absolutely perfect, it plays perfect, totally awesome!
it does play very nicely and the demo just starts to pick up at the end. can't wait to get into some crazy situations in the final game!

is it any different than the disc demo? I haven't seen anyone really mention that yet.

It's a newer build, but it's pretty much identical. I'd rather free up the 1.6 GB on my hard drive and just play the disc demo.

Too bad the video-sequences aren't realtime (somehow I got the impression they would be) and there are slight black bars at the top and bottom if you set your TV to "no overscan".
These nitpicks aside, the game looks and plays amazing, well done Insomniac! :)

My thoughts, exactly. As I said, the demo reel that plays when you leave it idle is very impressive.

I guess I'll rent it, just to be safe.

which demo reel are you talking about? i am not finding a video anywhere

nevermind, i see it now. you have to let it idle a heck of a long time though.

and teh-cj, still haven't picked up god of war 2 yet...need to do that

Yes you should. God of War II beats the crap out of conan, and conan isnt even out yet.

Ha tell me what you think of it when you do :D

I've been downloading tihs thing for like 4 hours and not even half way done - is the wired connection that much faster? shit guys.

I played through the PSN demo once, and I SHAT MY PANTS EVERY 10 SECONDS! SOMEONE WIPE MY ASS.

My jaw dropped when the game finally started. It looks like a movie, and sounds absolutely FANTASTIC. My HT got a good workout.

I spent most of my time jumping up on ledges and other platforms to get a better look at the surrounding city. It actually felt ALIVE. Besides that, every edge was SMOOTH. I'm sure there are bits that aren't, but what I could see was fine, fine, fine.

The Groovatron rocks. I only used it once, but it was damn cool. I almost forgot to take out the enemies because I was mesmerized by their dancing.

I really liked how the enemies looked so organic; so alive. The way they animated was super smooth - it added a lot to feeling like a real world.

So much shit happening all around, and it never slowed down. I did notice some stuttering when panning around, but not when chucking grenades at the enemies and blowing up everything that moved. Nice.

I loved the new crates - they felt real! Again, the animation was the key.

I have to play this many more times to get a feel for all of the weapons in the demo. I want to check out the grind rail sections again - WOWSOME.

FIRST DAY PURCHASE!! I CANNOT WAIT!!

It's definitely tighter than the disc demo. Lots of little refinements that add up. Cleaned up several hitches in the camera movement, tweaked the onscreen help so it doesn't come up at odd times, better framerate of course, groovitron now plays different music each time you throw it out, stepping on the fish guys when their out of their bowls know squishes them, etc.

On the flip side, they seemed to have scaled back the pace of weapon upgrades.

P.S

If you leave it on the start menu for a while it plays a trailer. You see new weapons, enemies, bosses, Ratchet Flying using these wing things, Ratchet in this spherical ball case rolling around this slide, a new lava level, the fighter jet side game and other generally cool stuff. So check it out!

Didn't someone on GAF play this game in its entirety and review it?

TT or something I think was his name.

How does the entire game stack up to the first level? First level seemed a bit basic, simple, and easy...how much better does the game end up getting from the very linear first level?

If it progresses anything like Resistance, I think we're in for a treat, but this is my only concern after playing the demo.

OH, also the SixAxis implementation in this game is the best I've seen yet. It actually doesn't feel completely floaty and works perfectly.

your a Rachet virgin Hans I thought you were a seasoned veteran they way you were hyping this up.

Huh?

No. I've been excited about it due to the footage shown and Insomniac's track record.

If it's anything like Ratchet & Clank 3, it'll be linear mostly, i.e. you will be able to revisit areas, do optional side-quests when you want, not when they become available, but the main game will be one directed path.

The first level being easy is also par for the course. There's no separate tutorial, so this is where new players can/have to get familiar with the controls. Do expect the difficulty to ramp up from there.

Typical R&C worlds have branching paths, so you end up with at least 2-3 different paths to explore on each world. We may not even be seeing the whole first level based on the fact the demo only has one path.

That and there is a boss too. It's a taste. It works in acquainting you with the controls and mechanics.

The game is absolutely AMAZING! Just one question: are the cut-scenes real-time? Because if they are, I'M TOTALLY SOLD! :lol

Why does PSN suck? Jesus, it's always so freaking slow. Yes, I'm using Wi-Fi, but Marketplace is never usually this bad.

I just wanna play Ratchet. *sob*

My download took just a little under 3 hours via wifi, so maybe it's just signal quality?

the colors in the videos are a bit washed out and it looks a bit too smooth,so i would say they are pre-recorded videos

to answersome questions (on my cell waiting for friends):

no J-Ratchet unless you have J-region PS3. Sorry. You can still switch to Japanese langugage, which I think is the funniest part anyway with the great voice acting.

as far as levels, all along we have stressed variety. so some are somewhat liner like metropolis, others are wide open like Sargasso and Stratus, and others have large battlefields like Rykan V, and others are combinations.

oh, and i was challenged by the last few levels at times, and challenge mode is TOUGH.

Would you say that the level of progression is like Resistance...where at first it's like "cool"....but then as the game progresses it's like "OMGWTFBBQ?"

I have no fucking words. o_0

The PS3 is a beast, and this game on its own shows why we need every bit of power the PS3/360 have to offer.

Fuck dithering. Fuck low poly models. Fuck last gen tech right in its ass.

This demo was flat out perfection. And coming off of Resistance, Insomniac wins this gen so far.

I CAN'T FIND MY FUCKING MEDICATION!!!!

Haha true :lol

I am yet to play the demo as I'm at work, but my mate is at my place and he downloaded the demo for me, and this is his response in a txt he sent me

"OHHHHHHHHHHH MAAAAAAAAAAAAAA GAWWWWWWWWWWWWD"

so i take it he liked it

I really cant wait to see what Insomniac does with resistance 2 :O

Insomniac wins this gen indeed.

Hold on, I'm confused -- all languages/versions are on the BD, correct?

Also, J-Ratchet will appear if I put the US BD into my Japanese PS3? That's cool... unlike how Japanese PS3s remove the blood from Resistance :(

edit: Holy nutsacks I just tried the PSN demo, this poops all over Resistance technically

:o :o

The demo sold me,f-ing awesome.

Id like to think with this game it's OMGWTFBBQ the whole time. But that's just me. :-)

Tough platforming or tough shooting?

I want some tough platforming that will hold up to Mario.

is there a Hard mode selectable from the begining or do I have to beat it on Normal first? I like my games tough :[]

Bebpo said:

You know, of all the games that there has ever been, I think R&C is probably the closest any game has or ever will get to Mario.

@Dralla: I think Challenge mode is unlocked after your first playthrough.

This game is going to be soooooo good it hurts. No, seriously... I'm either more tired than I thought I was or my eyes are watering from the 60fps goodness before me. Such a flexible engine they have here. The slight flatness texture wise is more than made up for with the high level of AA (4x again, right?), geometry, effects, animation and the shear scope of things happening at once. Wow. This is why you buy/compile good developers, nurture them properly and do everything possible to keep the talent aboard. How many 3rd party wares are even close to this or Uncharted?
If that's co-op I see in the "coming atractions" reel... :O

Only thing I can ask for would be better camera controls. I understand the fixed sequences, but I'd like to be able to see more of my environment in the standard settings. Overhead, jumping, the works. Also, my pad went haywire twice during the demo. Once at the very begining causing me to run in circles uncontrollably and then during the traffic fall - of all places - where it turned off and I lost control until I had to power it back up. I haven't had a single bluetooth issue in months so I'll just chalk this up to a WIP demo build.

In light of everything going on the slowdown is really a non-issue. I was hoping for 60fps all this time and it's good to see that we're getting it.
