Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Official Thread

Stop trolling or you'll get yourself banned.

No one is going to follow you in a "Resolution Jihad" against a respected developer like Bungee or Insomniac.

:lol

Who are you?

And I'm not on a "jihad" of any sort. (btw, I resent the term considering the real world implications.)

I'm just disappointed in both of the games that we aren't getting everything that MS and Sony promised. Yes, I know, it was early in the dev time.

Yada Yada.

But don't you worry your pretty little head, I will still enjoy both games.

who said anything about RC being upscaled? :lol :lol :lol

The original discussion comes from Quaz at B3d.

He makes mention of R&C Future being 704p here.
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1079007&postcount=568

He makes mentions of GTHD being 1440x1080 here
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1071182&postcount=318

I don't see GT5 being full 1920x1080 with all those cars when GTHD doesn't do it with one.

BTW, Quaz is the guy that initially found out about Halo 3 for being 640p, this disclaimer is for people wondering why he is being referenced.

I still don't get what that control layout oprion means...

Third Person is basically like Mario 64, you can end up facing the camera, but an auto lock on system assures you'll fire in the right direction.

Then you get the Lock-Starfe option which is more like SOCOM (you always see the back of your character and you have direct control of the crosshair - no lock-on) but only when you hold a weapon. When you are not, it works like Third Person.

Got it? No? Oh well, just check it out when you get the game and see what fits you better ;)

Thanks for the explanation. Like you said, I'll see what layou I prefer when I have the game. By the way, is there a way to center the camera behind Ratchet in third person view ?

got some screens caps for yaa from the 1up show( sorry if they are a bit sloppy, im not very good at this.)

Wow... That was simultaneously annoying, arrogant, and dismissive despite the fact you're some tiny internet nobody voice on this topic.

You should enter politics you have the chops.

Yep. L2. You keep it pressed and camera stays behind him. I think it's in the demo as well so u can try it out. It also allows you to do some cool lateral and backwards jumps ;)

My god some of you people are really reaching.

Halo 3 wasn't condemned for 640p just because, it was condemned of 640p because it looked how it looked AND it was 640p. Ratchet looks like pure pixel ORGASM and has an 8 pixel border. On one hand you have pure SEX at 704p and on the the other subtle beauty at 640p.

PS: Spwolf explain you tag now. Or face consequences online soon :lol

I agree; R&C sports better art direction and animation, it's an awesome looking title.
I'm just pissy because of what could've been had it run in 1080p.

I guess it's this generation in general that pisses me off. One one hand we have games with great visuals but run a 30fps and have v-sync issues; on the other we have games that offer smooth animation and stable framerates in exchange for lower poly counts, weaker textures and lower-than-promised image quality.

Shit....

I'll try this, thanks.

I tried the demo today, and I've got to admit, it was very impressive. I almost cried BS on the opening cutscene. So they're saved as mpegs with some filter effects, but otherwise everything else was 100% realtime, correct?

I'm also impressed how there were no jaggies whatsoever, and I looked from all angles. Everything was very clean.

The demo was also very action heavy. My only concern is if they can keep things this chaotic and intersting throughout the entire game. In Going Commando, you got an awesome first level, but things slowed down a bit in the second area.

I also wish they implemented realtime weapon switching, instead of pausing the action to bring up the weapon menu. It would keep you on your toes if you could switch on the fly.

I hope after 3 or more games like this, some of the "Sony is Doomed" nonsense will die down a bit.

Wow i see from my post on page 8 the trolls have woke up from their naps.

Trolls = those with differing opinions?

No one has slammed the gameplay or the gfx. Just a few people have expressed their dismay at the 704p.

Can you deal with that?

I guess you forgot to add ", aren't 1080p native, has 8 pixel borders" in the bold area somewhere. As ratchet has very nice image quality, frame rate, and poly counts.

No, people with differing opinions that don't try to force their opinions down people throats, and rather explain their view, and agree to disagree if no one gets it. You seem to understand that not everyone wants all games in 1080p as it would sacrifice a lot at this stage of learning the hardware. Later on we'll probably get the god of wars, and GT4's that PS2 experience (when games started running at 480p). Although this process will be faster as seen in games that use 1080p already.

Tapping triangle lightly should allow you to cycle through your most recent (3) weapons.

I played through the demo once. Seems exactly like Ratchet 2 (the only one of the series I've played) even down to the in-game graphics. Maybe my eyes aren't cut-out for HD? The cutscenes looked really nice however. As with R2, I didn't care for the gameplay here nor the controls (not just the unchangable camera controls). The fact that they don't let you fight the level boss(?) is pretty unforgivable to. Oh well at least I gave it a try!

What did 1up give the game? There's a link to their video review on the site but I'm too busy downloading the 1up show to look.

Which games would this be? Ratchet I hope not...because it has impressively impressive polycounts, hot textures, and image-quality beyond...

I still think people are misunderstanding this 704p in the DEMO. It's black bars...meaning there is no upscaling, or loss of quality. It is HD as it is intended to be. I have Casino Royale in Blu-ray - it has huge black bars above and below...so it must be 640p aye? I thinks not.

ps. So originallly people didn't think that GT5 could look like GTHD with more than 1 car...it came out having 16 cars....and now it won't be able to do native 1080p. PD have been very open about this: They are hoping for native 1080p.

Checking now.
Edit: Seems like it's just the 1up Show section improperly labeled.

Oh so the guy that has a post history of trolling R&C posting his cancellation order TWICE without any explanation or impressions from the demo, whats that? That isnt trolling?

and yes, crying about miniscule amount of pixels that 99% of the population will never even notice are "missing" is bordering on trollng too. As if Ratchet doesnt look ridiculous as it is?

I went home and played the Gamestop demo, then compared it with the PSN one. I'm telling you, the original demo had more stuff on the screen. Like I mentioned earlier, there are parts in the PSN demo where they have removed a lot of smaller enemies, and replaced them with a large enemy. Also, regarding the first building destruction sequence...the debris no longer takes out the pieces of the rail you're sliding on.

Buuuuuuut....that said, this is the nicest looking game that I've "played", and there's no more screen tearing, which is wonderful. So, obviously, compromises and tweaks were made. Oh well, it happens.

Though, I wish someone could explain to me why the very first shot in the opening cutscene (the pan down) stutters. Isn't it CG?

How many games run at a native 1080p on the PS3?

I can't believe some of you, you're swallowing R&C's sub-par image resolution and still have the gall to nit-pick Halo 3's.
I didn't buy a $600 console with HDMI, and an HD set with HDMI inputs so that i could play upscaled games which run at a <720p native resolution.

I bought a console on a promise that i would PLAY GAMES in 1080p, i could care less about its BR playback.

Going by the tone of your post, you didn't buy a playstation 3. Nice try, though. I'll help you out, just because I'm a nice guy:

The differences between Halo 3 and Ratchet aren't even applicable. The main complaints regarding Halo 3 are with its image quality and framerate. Halo 3 looks extremely jaggy and this is partially due to 640p upscaled to fullscreen. You don't even notice the small black bars for Ratchet, while it runs at 60 fps with AA applied which provides a pristine image quality on screen.

Did you seriously just compare ToD to a PS2 game? I hope you're just trolling because if not I'm worried you might get ran over or fall off a ledge. Whatever you do, don't get behind the wheel!

edit: Cut-scenes are all rendered real-time and captured on video with some post-processing and touching up (maybe a different lighting model?). I think the reason it stutters at the beginning might be because it's masking a load, might also be why that first cut-scene is unskippable.

We're feeding him and quite honestly, its not worth it to argue with him.

Some people simply want attention and are willing to do "distasteful" things for it.

You wasted your time with this post, i already admitted that R&C looks great...Remember when people mocked the 720 games on the 360?

The medicine tastes great this time around eh?

You are on the fast track to bansville.

I forgot to mention, both my wife and my mother in law loved when I used the Groovitron. So much so that they actually requested I use it multiple times because they got such a kick out of it.

My family does not support my videogame addiction, so this was quite an accomplishment, I must say.

My baby daughter also seemed to really dig the dancing mobs too, the Groovitron is a hit in my house Insomniac.

i don't remember. I remember the upscaling discussion from 600p and 640p....making the image quality suffer. I don't remember any talk about "black bars" like you'd have for a blu-ray film.

I believe there are 14 native 1080p PS3 games. But I suggest you do your own research.

Wasn't distasteful for me. In fact, I find that being open with your dislikes leads to a better life. Simply bottling up problems is a slippery slope rife with disasters.

Again, my problem is simply with the 704p (and perhaps 480p). NOT the game itself.

Is that so hard for people to distinguish?

This demo is too good, and is making the 3 week wait for the full game ubearable =(

More than anything, I just want to explore the worlds.
