Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Official Thread

I kinda figured that but don't know what to do in that segment where you
get to control him. You know, that one with those 3 alien dudes. What do I do with them. I've tried pushing them to that blue circle thing.
What should I do?

Have them follow you (press triangle and choose follow). Stand on the blue thing, and past through the door. Hold R1 to slow down time if you wish.

Quick question (that again may have been asked, but this thread is big): What's the length of this game? Is it as long as previous games in the series?

If you like completeness, it'll take even longer than the 10-15 hours to re-visit the level to explore previously inaccessible areas with new gadgets, get skill points, and find gold bolts.

Regardless, support Insomniac! Lord knows no one else is getting rich on PS3 game sales.

Figures. I never got the
Triangle command. I knew how to slow down time but no commands came up so I explored the rest of the level and found all 5. Thanks, will give it a try
On a side note, the game is so FUN. I can't get over how much fun I'm having with this game.

I have a problem and would appreciate any help that any kind soul can give.

I put the Ratchet & Clank disc in my PS3 tonight and the message came up asking to install the update (1.94 I believe). I carefully let it install the update and then -- as explained onscreen -- the console rebooted itself. Okay no problem so far. The Ratchet & Clank disc starts up automatically and then a message appears that it needs to test my system or something and that it will take 95 to 100 seconds. I let it do this -- everything appears to work fine. In about a minute or two the main menu for Ratchet and Clank comes up. I check out the "Options" menu -- but don't change anything. I'm about to click on "New Game" but remember at that point that I wanted to make sure my console display settings were at 720p. So I quit out of the game back to my console "desktop". I check my settings and the display settings are indeed at 720p.

Here's where things go BADLY wrong. When I insert the Ratchet and Clank disc again to start it up, the machine does not appear to read it. I try other discs and it it will not read those either! Not other PS3 games, not PS2 game discs, not DVDs! Nothing!!

I checked my system settings to make sure that "Autostart" was on for discs -- and it was. I turned off the console and turned it back on. No luck! It still will not read any discs of any kind. I tried starting up a demo that was already installed to my hard drive and that DID work. I went into my "Game Data Utility" folder and found a R&C entry. I deleted it in desperation, rebooted my system -- still nothing!

I deleted some files from my hard drive (having read about the bug) and that did not solve the problem.
I went into the PlayStation store and tried to download a trailer and a demo. Neither one would reach 1% of downloading.

What the *&^* is going on here???????????????
Someone, please help...

also the cutscenes when they

seemed a bit off, like it wasn't complete...did anyone else feel this way?

That was a huge cocktease. Insomniac are bastards. ;)

Couple things to say:

Robotic pirates are awesome and there is just something inherently funny about a robot pirate. I'm halfway through the pirate level right now.

The level before that
where you first meet Cronk and Zephyr
was a pain in the ass. I had a tough time with that one. Died a lot.

Alright, this game is SO fucking amazing. Not that far in (just finished the first space combat sequence), but I have a feeling this is gonna be my favorite platformer ever.

Thanks Insomniac! :D

I'm the type that will really explore every nook and cranny of a level but I find myself so excited about what's going to happen next that I just have to go on to the next level. :D

8th planet, about 8 hours in so far. Don't feel that the end is coming any time soon. If you're the type of person who worries about game length, I don't think you will have any complaints with this game.

Quick question about resolutions. With all the different resolutions checked on the PS3, the game is outputted at 720p. However, if I uncheck 720p as an option, my TV lists the game as 1080p. Does this mean that the game is automatically scaled to 1080p? Should I leave 720p unchecked?

Game is great so far, my only beefs are the slightly inconsistent graphics (some parts look next-gen, some parts look high-res PS2) and occasional bugs (floating crates, one part where I got stuck on a wall).

We recommend leaving 720p checked. But the game will scale to 1080i/p if you don't have it checked.

Awesome, AWESOME game.

What can be said that hasn't already been stated? It looks fantastic, sounds just as good, and plays even better.

It's deep, pathways are numerous and ingenious, and the storyline is intriguing. I've laughed out loud on more than one occasion already, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the almost complete lack of loading in the game.

I'm essentially addicted to the Upgrade system, and the game seems to reward me with new abilities and devices at just the right speed, so it feels as fresh a few hours in as it was in the first few minutes.

This is by FAR the best game on the PS3, and probably the best game I've played in ages. The system has some great games, but this is in a whole other league entirely. There's really not a weak point to mention, perhaps there's room to improve in some smaller areas, but the overall package is just so refined it feels like perfection.

Don't come in here asking how long it is, whether you can invert the controls, if it looks pixelly or any other mundane and pointless question you could come up with. It's everything you wanted it to be, next-gen perfection. If you don't buy this game, you aren't allowed to call yourself a gamer.

How did you get gas in your eyes?
The pump didn't start after i pulled the handle. After about 5 seconds of nothing it starts, but way too fast. Only got a little splashback in the face but fuck me it burned.

Just finished level 4, loving every minute. Glad to see the game is still really funny to me. Full marks for the new upgrade system too, its great.

I went to 2 of them in the Denver area and neither had it. Their computer said the 31th was the release date.

It looks like 90% of the stores here in the Los Angeles area have it in. You can do in-store pickup.

Maybe it just hasn't gotten to you guys yet.

EDIT: Actually it says it's available in Denver stores. I would check the site, maybe buy it online and go pick it up.

Hmm, can you tell me why you recommend to leave it check? I haven't been playing enough to tell a real difference between leaving it checked, or leaving it unchecked and let it scale to 1080p; my reasoning power is based on the fact that 1080p>720p. But that's usually only if the game properly scales it, like the 360 does on HDMI.

I'd say generally your TV will probably do a better job of scaling if you have a 1080p set. However, if you're scaling to a 1080i set, or if you're not sure, try both to see.

I personally let my Sony XBR at home scale the game.

Strange. Earlier the demo went all wonky on me. When I went to play it, the game would display doubled, split down the middle of the screen. I assumed it was a corrupt demo, so I deleted and redownloaded.
But it happened again.
When I play the game with all resolutions up to 1080i, it does it, but when I only use 720p it works fine.
It was fine the first time I played it, but the second time was when it went nuts.

BobtheFork, the game is available for instore pickup in your area.

Just because they don't have it on the shelves doesn't mean they don't have it if you buy online.

The Emperor Tachyon recruit commercial with Captain Quark was awesome.:lol

I have to say that the weapons are a bit uninspired so far and lack the creativity of past games, especially Going Commando. The level design though is fantastic though and the graphics are still awe-inspiring. Anyone know if they took out the in-game motion blur or if it's just really subtle?

well, i got mine so im ok but thx. Doesn't that seem weird, they would have to have it in store to pick up, but they aren't going to put it on the shelf until the 31st :p

because it will look better on 720p, plus then your tv set will show it internally in 1080p anyway...

Here's how good this game is. I'm a diehard Boston sports fan, World Series coming on...and I had to RIP the game out of my console to stop playing so I can watch the game.

Awesome.

Oh, I thought you were still looking. Never mind.

Yeah, it is a bizarre policy.

Its because they are idiots. I went to Canada's best buy, went past the actual shelf because I knew they wouldn't have it out and went to one of the boxes where they normally have lying around for games ready to stock. When I went to pay they flagged it saying that they can't sell it and I insisted that they can. A manager was then called and he said that the game is ok to sell.

The heretic voices similar issues as Joe Rybicki of 1UP-Ratchet-and-Clank-ToD-Review fame. Burn him.

Clearly the game doesn't look at all like a PS2 game. You are wrong, and I am right. Hell, I don't even have the game or a PS3, but I'm sorry: the video footage and screenshots say otherwise. See, I'm right and you're wrong.

:lol

Good lord, this game looks amazing. This is easily among the most incredible things I've seen this gen. Not only is there tons of detail everywhere AND fantastic AA, but the game actually DOES run at a near rock solid 60 fps (only minor slowdown thus far, from what I've seen). I don't know how they did it, but I've never seen something this detailed run at such a high framerate with such smooth image quality. Some AF would have been nice, but at 60 fps, it's not a huge loss.

...and the game is great too. :P

No, on my set (which is a Samsung LCD that goes up to 1080p, by the way), it says the game is 720p. If I uncheck 720p on my PS3, though, it will then say the game is 1080p. As for which is better, I'll have to play a little more and get a good look.

Take it from someone who does have a PS3, a 1080p set, an Xbox 360, and has played the previous games. Yes there's lots more going onscreen that would make the PS2 chug, and the animation is also much smoother, but there are some parts, particularly the second level, that do have a bit of low res PS2-ness going on. Believe me, I wish it looked beyond a PS2 game all the time, but that isn't the case, at least so far.

Will you be able to revist the first area, or will you have to do all the skills at the start of the game?

I would love for you to post some screens to back this claim up. PS2 and PS3 side by side please.

Picked up the game during my lunch break, and had some extra time so I thought I would run home and play for ~30 mins. Long story short, I didn't get to play that long after all the updates and start up process.

Yes, I started the demo and in my excitement didn't notice until it ended

Got home and finally got past the demo portion, and I am having a blast. From the graphics to the cuts-scenes to the controls, music etc. everything is amazing, but the bottom line is it is VERY fun to play, and hard to put down.

Go play the PS2 games again. No disrespect to the efforts of Insomniac in the last generation, but this shits on the PS2 games.

I'm loving every minute so far. I've got some good laughs out of it so far, and I'm only on the fourth planet. The description for Zephyr in the skins section is a hoot. :lol

I wouldn't say "upscaled PS2", but there are definitely parts that aren't so awesome-wowsome visually.

And the music doesn't heighten the combat like it should... especially noticeable since there's no rumble.

So far so good, but i'm hoping it gets better.

I must love this game, I traveled all the way to Watertown, 1-2hours away from where I live to pick this game up at my Favorite EB store.

I'm absolutely loving this game right now. It's games like this that make me happy to own a ps3. Also, this is the first game in a long time where I actually laughed while playing. Amazing work Insomniac guys.
