Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction Official Thread

So for those who have the game, how is it? Is that 8.5 score from 1up a travesty? Is it a 9+ caliber game? Thinking of getting it when I get my PS3 back.

9.5, I gave Bishock, and Skate the same they are all my highest rated games this year, but due to my love for the genre, R&C is the frontrunner for my GOTY :D

Is the demo indicative of the game as a whole? The more times I play through the demo, the initial wow factor dissappears and I'm left with core gameplay elements that...well just don't keep me interested. Perhaps I've just played the demo too many times?

I want to believe.

8.5 is fair.

Even 7.5 is fair if you don't dig the formula.

I'd give it a 9 personally.
7.5 isnt fair, its an insult for such a game and for the dev team

the wow factor doesnt disappear at all

Is it at all like Jet Force Gemini?

I've never played a Ratchet game for more than about 5 minutes, and it was always a level where I didn't have much in the way of good weaponry.

Whatever. It's an opinion.

And now you proceed to tell him how he feels, too. No wonder you can't grasp a 7.5.

Yea, if there was one game I'd compare this series to its JFG.

The demo is the first level, with only two guns? I'd say it's sort of indicative. The basic gameplay mechanics really don't change, but you get tons of guns that really mix things up. The scenarios don't get terribly complex either, but if you're creative you'll have a great time trying out different weapons and taking out groups efficiently.

The game's mechanics might not latch on to everyone, but I'm sure you'd at least finish your first playthrough without feeling it was a grind. Pacing is excellent.

Ratchet has scored exactly the same as Going Commando on Gamerankings, which is considered the best Ratchet game, and the entry before the series went online. Surprise, this one does without online.

So it's just as good as it's ever been.

Opus Angelorum said:
That's what I'm hoping, I guess what I'm asking is if the pacing is good.

Pacing is the best yet in the series. I never, ever felt any desire to hurry up and get off the current planet I was on. Each was varied enough to offer a different experience from the one before it. Particularly in the last half of the game, it picks up the speed and gets really exciting. Lots of fun from start to finish.

This game is awesome.....I generally dont play platformers much. And this has swayed me. The writing is hillarious. And there are just crazy details that are so so good. Loving it. Good job Insom! Pass it on JS.

Now that is all said and done....Isnt it about time for a Resistance 2 teaser??

The pacing is great.

The first couple worlds are fun but hardly overwhelming. But the game really ramps up after that and gets better as it goes along.

What really has sold me on the game, though, is the loads of personality and charm that Insomniac has heaped onto the overall experience. Whether it's sound effects of the individual weapons (Mr. Zurkon, I'm looking at you), or the loudspeaker announcements on the planets ("The murderous Lombax has returned!"), the game just screams polish. And that's a factor that can not be overlooked. The fact that the developers have constructed a cartoon universe as fully realized as the most detailed "realistic" setting should earn them all the accolades in the world.

7.5, my ass.

Considering they were talking about Full Moon Show going on hiatus until January-ish, we probably won't hear anything about their next project *cough* Resistance 2 *cough* until around then.

Speaking of loudspeaker announcements, nothing beats Zordoom Prison. How'd it go?
"Will inmate #suchandsuch please report to Torture Chamber A? We have a...present ...for you."
:lol Had me in fits.

quick questions about near the end or the end of the game.

So I am on Fastoon and got the last part for the Ryno and got it built on that dinosaur planet. the questions are:

how far am I to the end of the game? I read up that there is a choice at the end of the game, what is the deal with that (with as little spoilers as possible)

is there any place I can level up the Ryno? also get some raretanium? the planets all seem dead of life

Game is awesome IMO, if you own a ps3 this is right now one of the few true must play games......I'd probably score it a 9 or so....haven't played through to completion yet so I can't be certain. I'd wholeheartedly recommend a buy though.

Because a 7.5 is so-so/bad for such a game. Incredible graphix? check. Great gameplay? check. Fun cinematics? check. Unlocking? check. I mean, give mediocre game a mediocre note, ok, give a super polished game such a note, i cant agree. I can understand someone may not like the game, but its not a reason to give him a bad review .

Hey thats sounds good to me.....as long as we dont get too deep into spring without some sort of artwork or teaser something...........wait....why are we spoilering this??

Naturally if you've cleared a stage, you've likely gone through most of the Raritanium chests that are there. The best bet would be to use the weapon with the most +Raritanium bonus upgrades and clear the latest stage you've done with the strongest enemies.

Yeah, was bad enough that Brian and co. were teasing us on the podcast, saying they had the title of their next project up on their screens and weren't gonna tell us!

You're at the end. Once you pass the court of Azimuth, you'll be facing Tachyon. As for leveling up the RYNO IV, use the arena to get experience for it. For raritanium, use weapons that give out lots of raritanium (lightning ravanger, mag-net launcher) in the arena.

At the end of the game, you can either choose to warp back to before the fight, or begin challenge mode. In challenge mode, you get all you weapons and most of your items to start the game.

If you want raritanium, you might as well finish the game and begin challenge mode. You get multipliers for destroying enemies without getting hit, so you'll get lots of raritanium easily.

Good sir. My ass deserves a 7.5, but Ratchet and Clank Future deserves more.

Oh i concur wholeheartedly ole chap!

EDIT: wait...no...you dont deserve that...you are good enough...and smart enough...and gosh darnit people like you!

Gamespot gets a Poop.Crap in my books.

I do sincerely hope that Tachyon returns (not that I completely doubt it). He's no Dr. Nefarious, but he has certainly shown his potential to be as equally ruthless and evil as he is hilarious. The wait for the next title is going to be really hard!

5 is mediocre.

I don't see why a person not liking a game shouldn't give it a "bad" (above average) review.

Not everyone is going to dig the gameplay, it's their right.

*shrug* I just don't think it's worth bleating about a week and a half later, after everyone who loves the game has finished it and been thrilled by it.

basically challenge mode is the way to go? all things considered it seems like the best bet unless you want more gold screws or something, I mean you do keep your weapon.

I guess if you want to find the gold bolts and finish completing the skill points, you should warp back. Once you start challenge mode, you'll have to progress through the game again to return back to the latter planets.

Thats exactly why people are still "bleating". Because they finish the game and go...what the...why did they score it that?

And I didn't love The Godfather because it had TOO MANY good performances.

7.5 is a good score last I checked. And yes, from my experience with the game and with past games, I'd give it somewhere between a 7.5 and an 8. The only area in which ToD surpasses its predecessors is graphics. Everything else either isn't improved upon at all or is a step back.

Ok, first off, people are giving this game way too much credit for its gfx; the majority of your time is spent breaking down boxes.

Boxes, fucking boxes. Let's get our user to smash a bunch of boxes because that's fucking fun. People sure loved that crash bandicoot, they'll sure to love this. Fuck this, fuck this mediocre game and PS3s holiday lineup. Thank God for Blu-ray.

Yeah exactly. Thats how it works...Reviewer is off the mark from the other reviews and people talk about it. Its not rocket science. The game just came out.

You must live in a cold, sad, and fun-less world. I am terribly sorry.

I'm at asteroid ring station and I like it so far, but it feels kind of.... not punchy enough. There're tons of weapons for exploding things but I don't get that POWness from any of them (none of them are at level 5 yet). I don't know if it's sound or visual or rumble or what, things feel a bit short of razor sharpness of say Mario or Zelda. Hitting things with wrench doesn't feel crunchy like in Zelda, destroying things doesn't feel POWy like even non-action games like Zack & Wiki, and "shine get" mini animation sequence is just not sharp and exciting as in Mario, Zelda, or Zack & Wiki. The last one is ridiculous but it kind of embodies the general looseness of the game I'm feeling. I think 5-10% of sharpening could really push the series from B+/A level to A++ level. Hopefully later stages will give me all the !!PUNCH!!1 I need, as I had similar feelings while playing resistance.

And what's up w/ the first Clank level? Is it this buggy just on my machine??

And if you hated the gameplay so much, why did you buy it?

That's like saying "All you do in GTA is beat up hookers." Sure there's boxes, but it's not like you advance the plot through the amount of boxes that you break.

Best line of the game..

When you groovitron Tachyon, He says "Great now that song will be stuck in my head!"

Great game overall. Just finished my first play through and am starting my second to find all the plans for the Ryno and gold bolts.

How is this any different then say... slashing through blades of grass in Zelda? You're getting hung up on the wrong thing, lots of other games do similar stuff but frame it differently.

Nobody is saying smashing boxes is fun, it's just a way to scatter ammo around the levels. It makes no mention of "have fun smashing boxes" on the back of the game box. Just as Super Mario Bros never mentioned hitting question marks with your head on the back of the box, or Zelda's package never mentions swatting at blades of grass to collect rupees and hearts.

This is an idiotic argument.
