FF4 - 9/10 (EPIC. I can still play this today and enjoy every minute of it)
FF5 - 9/10 (story's OK, job system rules, intro is classic, and Gilgamesh!)
FF6 - 9/10 (so damn refined, and OMG, what a last battle!)
FF7 - 8/10 (a mess of a story and non-ending, but holy shit the first time I saw Leviathan)
FF8 - 8/10 (very refined, amazing music, but I found the Junction/Draw system to be busted)
FF9 - 8/10 (a game for fans, very nostalgic, too many characters)
FF10 - 8/10 (wonderful, nice changes to combat, but getting the UWs made me want to kill)
FF10-2 - 6/10 (a game for fans, but not in a good way; getting extended ending is ridiculous)
FF11 - 7/10 (OK, but should've been called Final Fantasy Online, not FF11)

I have yet to finish FF1-3, MQ or FF12.

IV - Good, but short. Golbez and Rubicant were great.
VI - pretty good, but lack of characterisation, and disjointed plot. Least favourite. Kefka is a
joke (I suppose he is a clown). Final battle was easy and anti-climatic
vii - Got me into the series, amazing for its time. Incredible final battle.
viii - good. Used to be my favourite during the angst years. Crap final boss.
IX - Good, but seems to copy alot from previous ffs, lacks a certain indivility in plot.
X - Very immersive. Very streamlined design. Joint fave. Crap final boss.
XII - Best gameplay, weaker story, and lack of random houses to explore. Amazing
graphics. Visually incredible final battle.
X-2 - light fun.

Mine isn't a very good list considering that I haven't played several

1. FF6
2. FF12
3. FF7
4. FF5
5. FF4
6. FF9
7. FF1
8. FF10
9. FF8
10. FF2 (I couldn't bring myself to complete this game because I hated it so much. Sue me)

Haven't played

FF11
FF3

Basically I like the old school ones the best, and FF12 was a breath of fresh air. Also FF4 is massively overrated.

God damnit, what is wrong with you people having X so high on your lists? Atrocious characters, more linear than an electron going 99.99% c on LHC, boringsest skill system, a world to wipe your ass with and a story developement that makes your average show of Oprah seem consistent. X-2 on the other hand at least put away with the linearity, put a better skill system in place and had more depth in Barkeep than in the whole X cast.

I could rant about the other FFs I played for hours, but truth to be told, I put far too much time into each of them, so they all must've been somewhat interesting :/

Best
FF V OMFG BBQ

rest

FF III was mmkay.. FF I was good..

the rest... dunno meh...

I tend to like the Job System driven FF games where the characters have little personality

The ones I enjoyed

10/10 Final Fantasy 12 (one of the best games ever imo)
9/10 Final Fantasy 6
9/10 Final Fantasy 7
8/10 Final Fantasy 9
7/10 Final Fantasy 4

The ones that pretty much only annoyed :P

6/10 Final Fantasy 8
5/10 Final Fantasy 3
4/10 Final Fantasy 10
2/10 Final Fantasy 10-2

i've noticed that lots of jRPG gamers LOVE anti-freedom, so this explains some of the hierarchy of Final Fantasy love and hate. This is also why staunch Western RPG fans and staunch Eastern RPG fans so often disagree on what is fundamentally important in the genre.

I don't think Final Fantasy X is bad or anything... i mean it was decent. I mean the story was completely terrible, and it was so linear it was painful, but it had some nice elements.

you know the worst thing was that they never let you go into what was supposedly the main city in Spira. That was the biggest cocktease shit ever. Fucking long walkway, a boss and NO ENTRY. Except that temple.

Sphere Grid is second to none.

XII is head and shoulders above the rest of the series.

1. XII
---large margin---
2. VI
3. IV
4. X
5. I
6. IX
7. VIII
8. all other FF# games.
9. VII

that was stupid...The city looked amazing and they only let you explore the temple... Yeah I agree...FFXII kills FFX in terms of exploration. Again though, it is irritating how you cant enter many houses in FFXII

Sphere Grid was ok, except that it was locked for most of the game effectively making any customization impossible until the game was over.

International Edition fixed this, so, if you played that one primary then yes i can see how it was the best thing.

Well in these massive cities in the game, I expected to not be able to enter everything. Although, there was still a pretty nice assortment in a few of the cities. Walking into every house never bothered me, though, it actually frequently kills my immersion... i mean, unless it's an Oblivion esque game. But in a game where the story beats into your head that you're a hero, I always find it absurd that you're breaking into peoples houses, randomly starting conversations and going through their coffers.

It really isn't quite as bad as GameFAQs, nobody has included FFXIII on their list...yet.

Anyway. I haven't played a Final Fantasy game I haven't gotten some enjoyment out of yet...but I haven't played them all. Oh, okay, I put fifteen minutes into FFII and hated it, so I guess that one sucked. Oh yeah and I don't like FFVIII, either, but I don't think I played it right, it's one of the games on my never ending 'go back and finish someday' list.

FFX and FFX-2 I enjoyed, but I could never play them in the company of others thanks to the horrific VA. And I never finished FFX-2 because I kept missing Job Spheres, getting pissed off that I couldn't go back and get it, and putting it down. I think I attempted it three times and I don't expect to ever go back to it.

I'm playing FFXII right now for the first time and I'm really enjoying it. I honestly have no complaints about the game.

Oh yeah I don't like FFXI either. It had potential but sitting around for three hours LFG is UNFUN. Okay...so...three FFs I don't like. ;P

Finally...fuck lists. Is anybody going to read all of these dumb lists? Even the OP?

tbh, I hate freedom as well, I want to be given two dots and then just connect the line, but X was too much. You were even walking into the same direction 90% of the time.

I remember I used to grind exp to get my whole party to learn steal. :D

I know its not perfect, but it's better than equipping materia/espers to have your party learn spells/skills.

You do know that there's New Game+ in X-2, right? Get to keep Dressspheres and learned abilities and whatnot and still start from the beginning to finish up things missed in earlier playthroughs?

well Im hoping in future ff games you can enter most houses, though it might affect how people view you...I mean oblivion does have some interesting features...though I hate how far the guards can get up your arse. But yeah, I like the freedom to enter different houses, and here the little side stories that past ffs had

I don't like starting a game over too powerful for the early game...I would have played it for half an hour and put it down again.

I so wish I could agree. I think it has very good gameplay (which hey, it is a videogame after all, so you know) and quick, fluent battles, but the atmosphere, dialogue, and plot drove a stake right through my heart :lol

It's a good game?

Atrocious characters,
Matter of preference. I liked most of them and character development was nicely done so I don't see how you could call them atrocious. A bit bland maybe, but also more realistic than in most FFs.

more linear than an electron going 99.99% c on LHC,
It's definitely more linear than almost every other FF game out there. But I at least liked the straightforward nature of the game. FFX felt like a refreshing detour from many RPGs out there. It somewhat lacked in content compared to many of them, but it didn't feel bloated.

boringsest skill system,
The sphere grid is better than what most FFs have to offer. It allows you to customize your characters to your liking or if you want you can just play trough the game without worrying about how to develop your characters abilites. Also, if FFXs skill system is boring to you, I'd like to you know how you feel about FF 1-4.

a world to wipe your ass with
Also a matter of preference. Maybe if you said what exactly your problem with FFXs world is?

and a story developement that makes your average show of Oprah seem consistent.
Again I have to disagree. In my opinion FFXs story is one of the better RPG stories out there. At the end it pulls a MGS2 and becomes as bit too confusing, but besides that I enjoyed the story very much.

Excuse my poor grammar, it's past midnight where I live.

I've played them all within the last five or so years... Here is how I'd rank up based on how much I enjoyed them at the time.

1. Final Fantasy VI
2. Final Fantasy III
3. Final Fantasy VII
4. Final Fantasy XII
5. Final Fantasy IV
6. Final Fantasy V
7. Final Fantasy VIII
8. Final Fantasy IX
9. Final Fantasy X
10. Final Fantasy II
11. Final Fantasy I

Final Fantasy XI would trump them all, but since it's a MMORPG I did not include it.

Pretty much. FFX was a beautiful game with a great, fast battle system and an awesome story. Okay, so the writing and voice acting isn't winning any awards but for a videogame, and for the first FF that featured voice-overs throughout the entire game, I thought it was passable.

Final Fantasy - 6/10
Final Fantasy II - 5/10
Final Fantasy III - 7/10
Final Fantasy IV - 10/10
Final Fantasy V - 8/10
Final Fantasy VI - 7/10
Final Fantasy VII - 9/10
Final Fantasy VIII - 6/10
Final Fantasy IX - 8/10
Final Fantasy X - 3/10
Final Fantasy X-2 - 6/10
Final Fantasy XI - 2/10
Final Fantasy XII - 6/10

A 5 rating is what I would consider average.

I have no idea. They are all different, I like most of them. I've never played FF I - IV excluding FF III DS. I've never finished XII either, the lack of story and melodic music (although the music was still fantastic), bored me. I'll probably finish it before XIII.

EDIT: For the record, I liked FF XI. =x

now people, don`t shoot me, this is my personal take on things based on how much i played and what effect it had on me in relation to the series.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Final Fantasy - 7/10
Final Fantasy II - 4/10
Final Fantasy III - 0/10 - not played
Final Fantasy IV - 0/10 - not played
Final Fantasy V - 7/10 -
Final Fantasy VI - 7/10
Final Fantasy VII - 9/10
Final Fantasy VIII - 1/10 - this was the point where it all went wrong, hated the main character and had no interested in finding out what this pompous ass was up to or where his story was going
Final Fantasy IX - 0/10 - not played
Final Fantasy X - 5/10 - tried to like it, but again - didn`t click with the characters at all.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 0/10
Final Fantasy XI - 7/10 - played it for a bit, and if it wasn`t for WoW would have possibly spent more time with it.
Final Fantasy XII - 5/10 - based on initial play - i quite liked it , but didn`t more than 2 hours in, picked up the US version since and will get around to playing it. Could well reignite some interest, characters seem better. Will this all get undone with "Gackt's sexually ambiguous corridor RPG adventure see you in 2009 FEATURING: unnecessary jumping " (FF13) ? Let`s hope not.

FF12's story didn't do too much for me, which is one big reason I play RPG's, and I do realize the battle system is a watered down MMORPG system, but I found the depth, the scale of the world, the music, visuals, battles, sidequests very, very fucking good. The story would be my only con about the game, but other than that I can't complain.
