Ray Gigant |OT| - Baby's First DRPG

Nice OT...Depends on the price really for me...Sword City on X1 is like 49 bucks(CAD) I believe...I liked the long trial but couldnt finish it so I am hesitant on getting the full game...I played a few Etrian's and all but can never finish them because they get too hard and I am stuck at a Boss or something, but I like the genre...this might be perfect for me lol...

Hopefully its like 29 bucks or less(I doubt it),then I will grab it.

Yeah this title the only thing that "might" stress you out is just collecting resources from the same locations to constantly upgrade your skill trees.

But asides from that, the game itself is not difficult and folks who want to enjoy the story should be able to without too much trouble.

At the start since things will put up a bit of a fight and you have to consider your actions that part should be exciting enough till your main characters get strong enough to pretty much stomp a lot of things without much thought lol.

Outside of the first person dungeon navigation, the other mechanics are quite different from what we would consider to be standard DRPGs.

Yeah most def the price is a huge question would really like to be answered. Or more like have had answered ahead of time. But guess we will find out soon enough.

Really did wish the game was fully voiced as did like all of the characters in it. And the occasions where there are dialog are amusing. Esp the stuff between Kyle and Ichiya. Would have been funny to have more events with the Yorigami as all 3 of them have different personalities too.

---------------------

Oh yeah for folks who worry about performance, there are FPS drops in dungeons. Esp ones that have holes in the walls where you can see to the other side of the dungeon and such. Rendering issues with the engine / vitas general low mem resources I reckon. As its generally those types of stages where it will drop. Such as the very first dungeon design in the game. So just keep that in mind. Must have been a pain in the ass for them to fix which is why they left it that way. As it is something that pretty much anyone can pick up on while playing.

I was going to pick this up at launch but since they still haven't announced a price I caved and bough Digimon Cyber Sleuth while it was on sale... I'll pick this up when I can, hope it won't be too long!

I just received Stranger of Sword City and now Ray Gigant which I was expecting as well.

I will bite at 30$, the game looks fun and I don't care if it's too easy.

If the battles are exactly like this gif, then I am SO in. This looks amazing in motion.

Playing games whilst being tired leads to a lot of funny situations.

Kept reading 'Breed' as Bread. Spent the better part of an hour wondering why the hell monsters were dropping bread and how it made zero sense to use bread to get better equipment.

Lol Saphirax, thank god the game is ''easier''... ;) ;P

So if it stays 30 bucks canadian also,I will pick this up...sometimes they jack the price by 10 bucks up here though and sometimes it stays the US price on the initial day,a mistake on their part(Digimon was 59 for 2 days until they adjusted the CAD price to 79) but Sword City on the PS3 store says 39,not 49 so who knows...guess I will find out today.

Yup same here. I am kinda skeptical about it too, can't remember the last time I paid $29 for a Vita game like this. $39? Yeah. More than that? Yeah. Less than that? Usually only for Indies.

Definitely picking this up tonight. Think I'm going to put Stranger on the back burner till I finish this one.

From the RPGamer review:

"The second playthrough offers a step up in difficulty and the option to not carry things over for a considerably higher challenge (as well as a God Mode option), but this will very likely be too late for many."

You would have to REALLY like this game to play it over again. Since honestly once is enough. At least the Platinum can be obtained in a single playthrough no problem.

Outside of those initial idle animations and animation when you select an action, you do not see any sort of attack animations using those character images.

This is from the JP version but combat looks like this

The first battle looked okay. I think the one with the dragon where they all fight from different floors was pretty cool. That first gif just had me hyped for a second.

I'll give it a shot. Seems interesting enough.

Yeah all of the boss fights will be like that. With each character taking a different position in the battle. Though most of the real damage comes from the main characters, Ichiya, Kyle and Nil during their separate scenarios.

Definitely grabbing the Steam version when it's released. I've been keeping an eye on this game for a long while now, hopefully I don't have to wait too much longer.

Been enjoying it so far. The game is pretty easy, though there have been a few times when the party *just* survives, in my first Type 1 battle and a couple heavy encounters. The battle system's super fast, which makes battles and dungeon exploration extremely painless.

It's kind of nice to go through a non-stressful DRPG for once. I'm fine with it feeling like a VN with occasional dungeon battle sections, kind of reminds me of Ar no Surge in that way. Looking forward to how the story develops.

the easiness comments are really making me hesitate.

by easy, is it only in comparison to DRPGs? Or even in terms of your average rpg (chrono trigger/FF6 difficulty)? I mean is there no thinking at all in battle and enemies just don't even hurt you? Or is it more that you'll just be fine as long as you play smart

Light encounters are the cakiest of cake walks, your AP (action point) costs are reduced by half. Normal and heavy just make you use more of your AP per attack.

I could see things getting difficult if you have several heavy encounters in a row, and you're hurting for AP. Health restores at the end of battle and you get +25 AP. Overall though, it's one of the easiest DRPGs I've ever played, and I'd put it on about the same difficulty level as Ar no Surge so far.

It starts off ok, but later on once you have upgraded your skills / items enough it becomes a cakewalk as the MCs will be able to destroy pretty much anything.

I had forgotten just how wonderful the download speeds are on my Vita. 140mins to DL this game.

EDIT: It only took 8mins. ROFL.

Took two hours for me. My Vita speeds are awful.

I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm just in the first Megalosite. It is really easy, especially since I was playing Stranger in Sword City right before this. I'm liking that this is more story heavy.

Yeah,I started it last evening and I didn't think it would be so talkative lol...2 fights in the first hour, everything else was introducing the characters and all but it's well done, looks so nice and clean on the Vita Oled screen and it has nice big fonts making it easy to read, such a relief from those tiny texts on consoles lately ;)

Retreated after the first tutorial fight in Megalosite but looking forward to growing through it proper today.
