Re-pressing old, rare titles, in limited quantities

Could they even re-press Saturn games? It's one thing if it's a PSOne game, which are still being produced, but the Saturn manufacturing lines are long gone...

Not too long ago GameQuest Direct worked with Sega (I think Sega) to do a new print run of that Sega Ages saturn game. Considering that was fairly recent, I think it's doable.

I think it'd be more feasible to rerelease PDS in emulated form somewhere. Isn't there a working commercial saturn emulator for PSP? And there's always gametap.

If a company was smart, open up "preorders" for a limited time, figure out exactly how many they would need to print, and then print that many and ship them. Should be easy.

This is a sound idea. Now if only Atlus NA starts taking preorders for Nocturne....

I'm pretty sure they just picked up Working Design's remaining stock (which is why you'll find TG-16 CD games also).

Jeez, it seems so much easier to get rare Atlus games in Japanese. Why couldn't I have been born Japanese or at least bilingual. ;_;

Lack of potential profit aside, I think another issue is the B&M side is far from mature enough to handle this. With gaming's focus on ever greater technology, there's less demand for older games and getting new product into the hands of gamers as quick as possible. Not to mention that I'm not sure if most retail locations even have the space to accomodate for larger libraries (especially with multiplatform games that span numerous consoles).

You would think there'd be some exceptions to this rule but almost across the board do you see companies letting their games go quickly out of print. Atlus' seeming disinterest in reprinting Nocturne just seems sadistic, especially with how their games tend to flow through word of mouth.

Shadow Hearts, Suikoden III, Zone of the Enders 2, and Phoenix Wright come to mind.

huh, I thought gamestop was behind ZoE2 and Suikoden 3. also thought Phoenix Wright was done by Capcom themselves.

Not to sound too defensive when it comes to Atlus NA (I know about 600 people who wants Persona 3: Fes localized over some obscure DS title...), but they did cater to fans' demand via reprints of Disgaea. Anyone can easily pick up a copy of Disgaea (PS2) from both Atlus NA and NISA official sites today for $30. If I'm not mistaken (no facts that I'm capable of reproducing to back me up here), Atlus did multiple reprints of Disgaea before. All, except the last batch, sold out almost instantly.

I bought reprints of Suikoden 3 and Phoenix Wright at $20 and $30 respectively. Things are looking better these days, but perfect harmony between hardcore fans' appetite for out of print games and profit orientated B&M has yet to be synchronized. Suikoden I+II for the psp was never localized and I'm sure latecomers who are converted to love the series have $30 to spare for that. The question of how many is easily answered by opening a limited preorders window as mentioned.

Not to mention Trauma Center.

Related to this, why didn't Working Designs do another run of something like Lunar 1 and 2 for PSOne for a small cash infusion since they were bleeding money and eventually died?

WD did do a bare bones budget reprint of LUNAR: SSSC not too long after they first released L:SSSC.

And vic felt that it was necessary to pay for ads in videogame mags to advertise that fact.

I walked into a GameQuest recently where I overheard a sales associate mention they were trying to get reprints done of the Fatal Frame trilogy (ps2 only).

Gamestop buys GQD's excess stock, takes off the wrappers and sells them as "used." That's why you've probably seen copies of Suikoden III for $19.99 if you've been in a Gamestop recently. I don't know about PW - they reprinted it a couple of times but the most recent one looks like a GQD.

Why in the world do they do that, anyway? Has anyone ever determined why Gamestop sells the games as "used" instead of new?

I think it was something to do with not being able to change their "new" price due to a contractual obligation to their vendor. But if it's used they can charge whatever the hell they want, i.e. $29.99 for a SMB Classic cart for GBA.

goddamn i hate Gamestop. but GameQuestDirect on the other hand is awesome.
This is currently in dispute. I ordered 3 games from them recently (God Hand, REmake, and F-Zero GX). GX and GH were what I expected but REmake showed up as a Player's Choice title even though all the pictures of it on the site are original version.

Hmm, looks like these GameQuestDirect chaps ship internationally, has anyone outside North America tried using them?

I avoided the same problem with Panzer Dragoon Orta by using their live help. The lady was honest enough to tell me it was a Platinum Hits version. I didn't buy it.

GamequestDirect International orders faq

I've yet to actually buy anything from them.

I'll email them about it and if it can't be fixed I'll just hold onto it. Worrying too much about COLLECTORZ PENIZ can be dangerous. It still bothers me though when sites like this that specialize in rare games don't make the effort to check which version was requested or at least attach an apology if that was the only version remaining.
