RE5 10 minute gameplay walkthrough

The hate some people are throwing at this game is hilarious. It looks fucking great. What did you expect in terms of gameplay? RE4 was an amazing game, of course RE5 is going to play similar.

Let's hope for RE6 will be something new, then...

Wait for RE6 while I research more deadspace info. Today was my first time seeing videos of that game (after going to gametrailers for these gameplay walkthroughs). It seems like the same style as RE4 but with a more up to date gameplay.

Looks awesome, and will no doubt be one of the best games of 09, but, isn't it a bit samey? I realise games don't need to be innovative to be awesome, but I'm sure that scene where you block doors with cabinets whilst swarms of zombies appear was the exact thing I did in RE4. Either way, maybe it's a homage.

My only negative so far on the visuals are with some of the animations, some of which still look a bit dated, but I'd imagine were left in for Nostalgia (i.e MGS4) and the overt contrast. So much of everything just looks bleached white, way too bloom'ish or way too dark. Maybe it's just the way it was filmed.

Graphically very pleasing, aiming does not seem to be a problem... I just fear getting really frustrated with the controls when you get a lot of enemies all around you in a closed space... a situation many games try to avoid (unless they are called DMC, GoW, or NG ;)).

I'd like to see them ditch the tank too.

So like a camera system like Dead Rising, then switch to RE4 camera for shooting? Because I don't think the current camera (behind the character) would work with free roaming controls

In no way at all would I like to have this on the Wii - but the RE4 control scheme was just so amazing with the Wii Mote :\

people chowed down over 6 RE's with tank controls. Now RE4 has made a brave departure in the gameplay development and suddenly people here expect a complete reĂŻnvention with every new iteration of the game. Guess what ? Its not gonna happen. suck it down and shut up, and leave these threads for the fans.

:lol You know it must've been really mindblowingly fucking awesome if Christopher concedes that it was amazing on the Wii.

And I agree. Here's hoping the Wii gets another great RE game or MS makes a surprise X-mote announcement. :p

I don't think any rational person would think the Wii remote controls on RE4 weren't superior. I was actually pulling for xaggle or saggle at E3 just so I could play RE5 that way.

The animation, camera and movements looks too wooden. It needs to be more flowing (the way he jumps over and down things, pushes cabinets around, reloads, don't seem to flow into each other - it's like a sudden walk then a sudden change into whatever posture or action is going on). The tank controls are fairly lacking and inappropriate especially when juxtaposed with the incredible graphics, and it has got to go in favour of a dual-analog control scheme commonly found in today's third person games.

As it is, the movement and animation is far too similair to Resident Evil 4 - that's one of the best games ever made, but the standards have to keep rising. What was seen as good last generation won't be so embraced this time around. Unfortunately I don't think Capcom will go back far enough to remedy that amount of animation, as the game seems significantly far along in production now.

Looks boring as fuck but it's probably gonna be GotY 2009 anyway.

they did in RE4 :D

Seems some people don't remember how things were controlled in RE3 or RE:CV. I personally love the controls of RE4 thus I will like them in RE5. My only complaint at the moment is where is the damn color in those videos.

FUCKING A

This game is going to curbstomp everything. The RE4ormula is not even close to being maxed out. Gimme more.

It's great to see the game up and running on the PS3. I guess with this game I'll have to do things the cvxfreak-way and get both versions. :D

I agree completely. The controls were so perfect on the Wii. I'm there day 1 for sure, and am glad the game is going to look killer on my 360, but I would really really like a new RE game for the Wii as well.

RE5 looks like RE4 in a less appealing setting :(. That and the AI/Co-Op Partner always being around with you blegh. And the RE4 animations.

And the barrels that look like the RE4 barrels with updated textures.

having more of the same sometimes isn't necesarilly a bad thing.

Zelda Oot and MM looked EXACTLY the same in screenshots, there was not a single upgrade in the gameplay mechanics ( time limit aside ) or anything, yet both games rock.

Metroid Prime. 1 and 2 are EXACTLY the same just with different scenarios/stages, both are awesome.

the backlash and relative hate come from the fact that only 2 years are apart the N64 zelda games or the cube metroid games. Re4 is so good, I have already played it like 20 times because of the lack of a proper sequel. til march 09, that's 3 years between 4 and 5,not much but I am fed up from 4... I understand when people aren't trilled with RE5...

even then, you guys are being too pessimistic, RE5 will be awesome. Yes it will be the same gameplay mechanic but its RE4 it's copying, not some shitty game... give it a break, and let them just add new stuff like different guns, unlockables, stages, bosses, the formula has only been used once so this time, JUST this time I am not upset it's RE4 on steroids.

This aiming is totally retarded, the whole reason why an aiming mode button was used in RE4 was because they used the left analog stick to aim! Hopefully they'll either change it back to the original RE4 GCN controls or they'll copy Gears of War.

Pretty sure the controls in terms of aiming are exactly the same. You still use the left stick to aim, and when not aiming the right stick moves the camera slightly around (never used that and this demo suffers a bit from the guy using it).

Nope, RE4 still had tank controls for character movement, same as previous RE games. Difference is the over-the-shoulder cam and proper analogue stick aiming, but the character's tank control scheme is the same as always.

I'm just happy to finally see this game running on PS3 hardware. It's looking pretty good. I loved RE4 so the gameplay on hand here in the video I'm fine with. I guess part of the whole issue of wanting to run and shoot at the same time is that then the tension of the game gets diminished a bit. At least my opinion of it. Having to stop and shoot while a ton of zombies (ganados?) are coming at you can get pretty tense :lol

Insofar as it's exactly like RE4 I likes.

The co-op need to DIE tho'.

edit -- And I'd bet my Gaf account this is coming to Wii as a 1:1 port; unfortunately I'm going to have to buy this game twice.

Glad to see so many people here (and elsewhere) finally waking up to the fact that RE4 controls are dated and need to go, because better schemes are avaliable.

A Dark Sector camera+control scheme would be perfect. Might need to tweak the enemies to maintain some of the tension (make them advance a little faster instead of creeping towards you slowly), but it's the perfect example of a good control scheme that needs a better game (and less glave).

I'm not worried that the game is too much like RE4, I'm worried that the director from RE4, the man that arguably made that game as great as it was, isn't involved. I don't know the credentials of the director this time around, but I know the loss of someone so influential could potentially be huge.

You must be joking. What the hell do you want a barrel to look like?

I agree that the animations could use a teensy update, but like the majority I'm very much looking forward to HD RE4 with co-op gameplay. Some of you are just trying to find things to whine about - it's a shame, but more RE5 for us please!

Jizz over Dead Space all you want; but it seems a little hypocritical. Some of us will happily enjoy both!

RE4 story seemed like a huge departure from the previous games... Has there been any indication whether RE5 will return back to classic RE narrative?

RE4 in HD, as people have said. Fine by me!

But what the hell is it with devs that feel they have to start dropping f-bombs in games? No Resident Evil game to date (that I know of) had f-bombs, and this clip had them. Same with MGS4, had one major f-bomb that really felt out of place in the MGS franchise. :lol

Animations need major improvements. They look real awkward.

I hated the RE4 controls on the PS2. Let's hope they are a lot better i.e. L1 Aim, R1 shoot, Right Analog Stick aim.

The Capcom rep in the video said Chris is investigating the origin of the T-Virus.

Kirk is the new Mike

Only problem I have with RE5 barrel is WHY THE FUCK DO THEY HAVE TO PUT BARREL THING IN THIS GAME? Can't they think of some thing else? They have chainsaw guy. They have barrel. They have money collection during the game. They have last plagas enemy. I can't wait to see Salazar and have another QTE with Krauser!

this guy reminded me of salazar.

and i bet there is going to be QTE with wesker.

Yeah, as much as i love the look of this game, it is RE4 on HD.. which is not a problem at all, but considering the step up in evolution from RE3 to RE4, this is somewhat disappointing.

I never got to buy him his beer :(

GAMING'S BIGGEST TRAGEDY.

Animations are disappointing, and some things feel too similar to RE4, but looks great otherwise, and I loved RE4, so it's not like the similarity thing is a huge problem for me.

Hype slightly down, but I can't wait to play it regardless.

Just to let everyone know, RE5 is far off, March 09, what you've seen are called 'place holders', used from RE4 (animation/controls-wise) to just show of the current build. (graphics/co-op)

By the next event, the controls will be different and animation will have been more improved, etc.

games 8 months away....heaps to be done.

People need to watch and read interviews.
